Behaviour in PvP

Voice_of_Chronicles
I would like to congratulate this community, even though I have encountered some frustrated leavers, rage-quitters, and flamers in my team or other teams in the Battlegrounds, the general atmosphere is still very friendly compared to what I am used to from other MMO's PvP and PvP in online games in general! That is really nice! :)

What I liked about the ESO community from the start was it's helpfulness and that I wasn't competitive to the point that people sicken others by their uncontrolled rage and disappointment.

Please keep it that way! This game is not balanced around dueling and certainly not around Battlegrounds (yet I am sure the dev's are trying) Even though I have spend alot of time dueling I still feel that there is a certain respect between players, that is only occasionally replaced with grief and hatred.

Loosing in AvA, Battlegrounds, dueling can sometimes be frustrating and I understand that. But that doesn't mean you have be toxic or in case of the (frequent winner) uber vain!

Anyhow, these are my thoughts on the state of PvP in this game, I have met many honourable duelists and battleground players, some of which I have become friends with, and I have met a few black sheep as well. :D

But I still believe PvP is great fun, no matter the overall balance between classes, and team compilations in nattlegrounds. I only felt like saying thank you and keep up the good mood in PvP even though that might mean you have to control your temper occasionally. ;)

What are you thoughts on behaviour in PvP?

Surprisingly nice, isn't it. I've met some of the most amazing people in PvP.

I mean, they'll kill you. Of course. Everybody's playing to win, that's what's fun.

The black sheep you mention are loud and so that's what non-PvPers tend to think the whole scene is, which is a shame.

I got sexually harassed in cyrodiil once. I'd say the creep's name but ZOS would call that name and shaming.

Actually salt in Cyrodiil is rare. I shamelessly Stam NB ganked my way to Lieutenant with a total of two salty messages.

I see more salt in PVE zones with the "duel me brah!!" Crowd.

It's true. The salt in PvP is probably the most extreme in the game, but it's rarer than you would think. Plus an easy two-click solution exists.

In PVP, a group of people are locked up in the same room together for an extended period of time, and whether it is a fun experience or not depends on what they make of it. So far in my experience, a great many of them have decided they're going to take ownership of the experience and make it a good one for all involved. Sadly, the current leadership of my alliance on my home campaign (Sotha Sil) seems to be an exception to this rule. But by and large, most serious PVPers in this game realize that we're all in this together.

In PVE-land, on the other hand, the people who are in this to compensate for something seem to have a much louder voice, in large part because there is less reason for players to communicate with one another in PVE zones. And I seemingly cannot escape from people who want to talk about politics in PVE-land. Cyrodiil is the only zone in which I habitually have zone chat on.

I was born well before 1994 bro. You have a very narrow conception of what competitiveness means. My ideals of competition stem from my experiences playing team sports as a kid and into high school. (And no, I never got a participation trophy.) If I had called the quarterback I just sacked a **** my coach would have cursed me out and benched me. That man took it upon himself to teach us two things: sportsmanship and how to win. The two aren't mutually exclusive, despite what you seem to think. We were all made to shake the other team's hands and tell them "good game" win or lose, and we all were made to understand that respect for your opponents on the field was a part of what made the game great. I do my best to carry that ideal into ESO, and in my experience basic sportsmanship makes for more satisfying competition in Cyrodiil. Never once has anyone accused me of being "soft".

Unfortunately, you seem to have had no opportunity to learn from examples of actual competitive sports, and so instead learned from TV. I'm sorry to hear that.

I had someone tea baging me today in cryodil.
    I found it distasteful

We had a really great duel...or three (when I rode back to have it again over and over). Some times I got closer to killing him than others. I enjoyed the actual gameplay the battle was hard fought and really close then he just ruins the mood with the teabagging.

Teamwork in small groups in Cryodil has been really good though.. you just have an idea to run around resource taking to distract the opposition to send a big group to deal with the four of you. Or the rapid keep taking when you get 8-12 players for the big plays.

The 'golden age of gaming' ... mmmm quake at 320x240 pixels on 'orrible 15" CRT screens, 56k MODEM dialup connects, serial ball mice, etc... sure it was much fun at the time.. but gaming got a whole lot better imo.

Back on the actual topic... Yes! I think the PVP community in ESO is largely very awesome! I have met great people & had many laughs. There is always a small minority of players that take it too seriously & have to get all angsty about the GAME they are playing. That's OK.. if everyone was all happiness & joy all the time that would probably be a bit weird :P A little bit of angst & contention sets the PVP mood!

I have often found that my PVP guild groups are so calm! We can get totally wiped & the crown will calmly state where to rez & restock & regroup. It is so cool because when you feel the frustration of trying your best to survive/kill an enemy encounter & fail... a calm leader can just reset that frustration back to it being a fun gaming experience again.

This is the wisdom you whippersnappers need to be reading. Gentlemen know what good sportsmanship is all about.

Also, I'm pretty sure if more people figured out a way to type and ride their horse at the same time there'd be more "conversations" in Cyrodiil. Cyrodiil is mostly empty and quiet when ever I go and I get more smack talk from my pug than the enemy.

Voice chat harassment though... if you are on console there is a higher population of immature edgelords trolling voice chat to bully people, due their insecurities offline.

It lies in the nature of PvP that there are winners and loosers. It is about how you handle your victories and and your defeats. I only wished to reach out to the community (you) and thank and encourage you, to keep the atmosphere in PvP healthy.

I have come a long way from other MMO's and games and PvP was the communites breaking point and determined it's ultimate downfall. :|

Most of the players I've met are friendly, encouraging and helpful concerning their experience in PvP. I have been given advice and helped my fare share of new PvP'ers, who asked me about PvP, recommending item sets, skills and rotations, because I think that is what PvP should be like.

I am not talking about the Golden age of gaming, even though I was born in the mid 80's growing up with the exact games you mentioned, because that is not the point of my post.

Of course I understand the sting you feel when you loose a battle, and the heartwarming triumph after a well-fought battle, and it is normal these emotions sometimes lead to rage- /flame- posts. I have yet encountered most of them with a simple question like. "Do you really mean that? I hope not! We are in this together. Sometimes you win, sometimes you loose! Well fought! Hope to fight you again!" :)
This sometimes ended up in the most interesting discussions about behaviour in PvP and quite often an excuse on the other part.

I think a general feeling of respect towards other players, no matter they prowess in battle be it PvE or PvP, but as fellow human beings, who want to enjoy the same game with you, is what everyone should have. Because this it is an MMO and it thrives on coorperation and a feeling of community.

I wished only to share my positive feelings about the honour and sportmanship that this community has developed and I was looking for other people's opinions.

But I am not only looking for positive experiences here, feel free to post your negative ones too! But keep it in mode that is understanding and helpful!
Because I believe that keeping a discussion going about behaviour in PvP (without naming and shaming) and conciously talking about issues that might arise and increasing the awareness of people engaged in daily PvP is what can keep the atmosphere as great as it is(most of the time) in the long run! ;)

Indeed. They must not PvE much either because there are people in PvE just as bad as people in PvP. Egomaniacs are everywhere and aren't limited to one side of the game.
