why is there a limit on guilds you can join?

I could get by with 3 guilds... one guild would be too restrictive IMO. I have 2 x PVP guilds (one for Sotha Sil, one for Kyne) & neither have guild stores...so I also need a trading guild to sell stuff! I am actually in 3 trading guilds atm to try & sell more stuff.

MMORPG's used to be all about "playing with others"

MMORPG's have evolved into "solo play"

Solo players just want to have access to any group content without having to forge friendships and grow with a group of people aka the guild.

Back in days, you do a raid with the guild, 2 items drop. Everyone gets excited, everyone has there fingers crossed for the loot, everyone is excited that the guild is getting stronger.

What it has evolved into, everyone gets loot, we just do this content because its part of the, grind... Another thing MMORPG's has evolved into. The grind. The solo. The all about having access to everyone, being apart of everything so I can access everything, no work necessary, no loyalty necessary, no friendships necessary.

    Good ...

I don't want to be stopped from enjoying the game cos I'm having a depressive withdrawal from society and just want to play alone

Problem I have with guilds are they're very clique
It's usually 6 to 8 players who want some guild perks so create a guild yet only interact with each other

I've been 9 guilds so far ... And I'm invited to groups by none guild players

I've yet to be invited to guild event , I see requests on the guild chat go out ... But they're so specific about CP level, gear worn and skills unlocked I don't see the point in even asking for an invite

I have 1 guild that although shows elements of this happening have a great Facebook page and people are always helping with crafting or tips but again it's a select few that play together

Guilds should be replaced with an auction house

It sucks because trading guilds take up so many slots. I am in 3, and that's on the low end. Most people are in 4-5. That only leaves 2 slots (in my case) for "other types" of guilds (dungeons, trials, social, etc.).

If you want to make money in this game, you need to be in multiple trading guilds (since each store only lets you list 30 items).

Yes, having more than 5 guilds would be detrimental the game. Guilds take up a lot of memory and processing power on the servers. It's the same reason guild membership is capped at 500. Those lists of members have to be stored in memory, and they have to be accessed every time someone sends a message in guild chat.

Proof that it requires more power? lol

Are... are you seriously not aware that computers have to store things in memory to be able to do things with them? If that's something you think needs "proof," I'm not sure you should be using a computer.

I suppose having non-combat pets in trials also contributes to server performance and frame rate lol

Only if they also change the guild trader system at the same time.
Like increasing the limit to 100 items per trader, or one guild can hire up to 5 traders, .. or better yet: screw the system entirely and switch to a global auction house.

Don't see how 5 guilds is limiting.

5 guilds is already bad enough.

In the end, the more guilds someone is a member of the less worth they provide to any of the guilds. So I guess someone would want more guilds if they want to be less of a value to any of them.

And here I am thinking 5 is way too many... lol

I liked MMO's where you only join 1 guild at a time. Better rivalries and guild pride.

Works for the competitive people I guess. I do pve stuff, mages/fighter's dailies, add an extra body when guildies want to run a dungeon. Really not into rivalries and gottowinatanycostgettehbestest whatever.

I join guilds to help other players, mainly. Whether by crafting or lending a hand/being a meat shield if they're in a fight they have problems with; anything except pvp. I have 3 social guilds, one trading/social, and looking for another one, possibly.

Most games only let you join one per character, I personally feel like 5 is a too many, when you are in so many guilds you don't really have the commitment to those guilds that you should.

As of right now, I only look to guilds to move goods. My "commitment" to each guild is to keep 30 slots filled, and my weekly dues paid.....nothing more, nothing less. This is all that I could possibly hope or want at this time. At some point, I am sure I will want a steady dungeon group, and if that time occurs, then I will cut one of my trading guilds. Quite honestly, it is fairly hard for me to keep my 150 sell slots filled all the time, but then again, that is a good problem to have....

People use dedicated guilds for PVP, PVE, trials, dungeons, trading, RP and I'm sure a lot of other stuff.

Five is fine, but I'd join more if I could.
  • RavenNvrMore
I can tell you that having more guilds(for people who want to trade) is more important that less guilds, and more sell slots...WHY?....because you are not guaranteed a good trader in a high traffic area...Having just one guild with a ton of slots will not do you any good if you are in a sell spot in the middle of nowhere. I like 5 guilds because it gives me 5 spots to sell on the map.

after looking thru these comments about "commitment time", i realized i join more "specific guilds" like one of my guilds is just for dueling. we hold tournaments every week in a big dueling arena the guild master created so other than being present once a week, theres not much contribution one could provide

Auction House. With Android app so I don't have to waste my game time. I married, that time is precious.
i wouldnt mind having a 1 guild limit if there were guild benefits and what not. i feel like 5 is just teasing me lol i have like 8 pending guild invites waiting for me to drop one.

Claiming a keep in Cyrodil should give the guild benefits. There should be a reason to hang out in a keep, and reasons to defend it.

So 100000000% agree on this ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^. There is no loyalty to being in more than one guild. I miss the guild experience Everquest had. You had true loyalty back then in a guild or you were a spy. Hell I miss the older MMOs anyways. Today's MMOs might be prettier but they lack the heart and soul of the older MMOs.
