Thoughts about the little things

Where to begin.

Well recently a few travellers have expressed to this one a sense of feeling a little weary from time to time with life in Tamriel. There will only ever be so many quests to do, so many dungeons to run, so many things to fight. At the end of the day perhaps all we want is a little lighthearted fun with friends? It will never be possible to create enough keep us all busy so why not enable ways we can entertain and enjoy ourselves that do not involve massive dungeons and new lands.

Khajiit has thought of travels she has taken to other lands, perhaps even in other lifetimes yes. The small entertainments with friends that made life more enjoyable.
To have our own homes is most enjoyable - but what can we do there presently except sit and talk?

Perhaps both at home and outside the front door there might be little things that can keep travellers entertained and provide a reason for social gatherings?

In another land this one she recalls an excellent music system - people got together to both play music and watch others doing so. We were able to use the system provided to entertain ourselves and others almost infinitely.

Perhaps some of the following might be considered yes?

Little games of dice at a tavern - purchasable little games for the home. Dice, Orcish pebble games, frog racing, a simple sort of card game of snap.

Chasing things - like chickens.

A garden you can watch grow and change - and then have a chance of harvesting something nice from it.

The sort of emotes and system that would enable us to put on theatre performances for others.

Entertainments that give a reason for people to gather socially without killing things. Parties are great but what do you do once you all get together presently - run somewhere, dance to the same music over and over, stand around and drink?

A happy traveller is a traveller that stays and spends coin - every tavern knows this yes. So maybe consider that the little diversions have a worth beyond the obvious.

Khajiit she would welcome your thoughts on this matter.

    I love these ideas.

I'd like a garden and some fishing for my home. The plants could be new plants with little or no alchemical value; the fish could be unfilletable. That's fine, I just want the interaction with environment.

Games and diversions would also be excellent additions.

A garden to grow flowers for alchemy potions would be great.

Maybe the seeds could come from the alchemy writ bags, a random drop chance perhaps with a better drop chance from the master writs.

A fun quest line to unlock the garden and one to unlock a fishing hole in each house with a suitable space.

There is a great need indeed of offering suggestions for the dev team to be kept busy so that they don't roam around randomly dropping boulders and removing windows or seashells, yes?

This one will add a few things that have been on this one's mind for a very long time.

    1) A wager/bet system. This will make dueling a lot more interesting to watch if coin is involved, yes? Later this could be extended to diverse kind of racing, like frog and lizard racing but also all kind of games between the numerous races of Tamriel (see number 2 and 4). Coin is not only for the bills and the shopping, yes?

    2) Riding mounts on the outside of the houses. This one would very much like to build some racing tracks with obstacles for mounts, to challenge this one's friends and also, perhaps, make a little coin on the side, yes? (see number 1) Some racing tracks could include a on foot section, a mount section, a swimming section, only imagination can tell, yes?

    3) A lot of interactable doors, trap doors, ladders, ropes, secret-passage-bookshelfs, swirls and teleport pads, yes? This one could invite some friends over for a treasure hunt and those things could also be used for racing tracks. yes?

    4) Card, dice or board games are always attractive ways to relax the mind with some friends, yes? And also to spend or earn some coin, yes? (see number 1)

    5) Music. Bards or instruments to play music with.

Of course some of this can be done already, to some extend and with some limitations. This one only asks for the tools to allow imagination to roam free and keep this one's friends happy, yes?

Oh dear, I can just imagine the fuss the principled objectors to crown crates would have over the idea of introducing more gambling into the game (even if real money wasn't involved) !

I can well understand the appeal of all the suggestions here to those who like those sorts of things. Personally I find they don't complement the adventuring aspect for me and aren't why I play MMORPGs but then I play at a pace that means I never run out of content and in a style that isn't geared primarily to socialising so I do appreciate that it's different for others.

I did play in a traveling band in another land being one that was far, far away (as well as in the real one as it happens), but that was only in beta when there was a different atmosphere or so I found. I also spent time in another land where there was a particularly good set of musicians - one band to rule them all, you might say. Passing them regularly added to the immersion of the world certainly, so I'm all in favour of such things being provided for those who enjoy them whether directly or indirectly.

Thank you for pointing out one very important thing: a bet system could only be made with in-game currency of course. Anything else would raise some serious legal and moral issues.
Nothing stops people for doing it now (although I've actually never seen it or even heard of it) but to do it you would need to go outside the game to keep bet records and whatnot which is immersion breaking.
I don't gamble in real life but I remember playing some Lotto with my grand parents when I was a kid and what made it really fun is that I could make or loose some cents over it

Ah yes! Some of the most fun times were had racing with senche out in the open with friends. Perhaps racing gates or goal post furniture could keep tabs on who galloped, ran or swam through which spot in the correct order, and who passed a finish line first.

I usually don't like to agree with flea-bitten rugs, but in this case the cat is speaking some true words. ;)

While the new pve content in Morrowind is truly fantastic (love the new delves!), it gets old pretty quickly. Doing the same dungeons and trials for years gets old at some point and PvP ... let's say it's not the kind of experience I hoped for during beta. So it wouldn't hurt if we could get something else that helps keeping us entertained between content updates. A long time ago someone coined the term "emergent gameplay". Maybe you could add a few things that go into that direction and allow players to create their own content they can share with other players. Housing is a good start, but right now it's very limited in that regard.

Some ideas that come to mind:
    • Allow home owners to place locked doors, npcs/monsters and chests which can contain real loot so we can build our own "levels" playing into the justice system.
    • Guild quests where the GM picks up or maybe even puts together a quest for the whole guild and a lot of players have to collaborate in order to complete it.
    • Crafting quests / looking for item quests. Allow players to put requests on a board and others to pick it up and fulfill it for gold and xp rewards. This would be a great gold sink and also greatly remove the chance to get scammed by someone in chat. It could even include bound stuff that usually can't be traded. That way you could allow players to put in their worn equipment for improvement by a crafter.
    • A system for custom goals inside a house would also be nice. For example an egg hunt where the homeowner can specify an item type which he then hides all over the place. Participants then can "pick them up" (not into their inventory) and it counts and shows how many "eggs" everyone found and how many are left. Or horse racing. The owner can build a course and place checkpoints and the system would then track the time and place like in a racing game.
    • A simple ingame event calendar for anyone to announce stuff they want to do to friends/guilds/globally and get players to sign up

In my opinion, the player guilds are what is keeping a lot of players in the game, so it would be nice to see them get some love in the near future.

    p.s. guild bank/trader/management update pretty please ;)

It would be my dream to be able to store completed armor sets in my home. Perhaps the racks to store and display them could cost many writ vouchers or even crowns.
It would make housing actually worth it to be able to enter on any of my toons and choose a couple sets to mix and match and take out for test runs and fun. I mean aren't sets the real tropheys to be displayed in our homes.

Yes they have mentioned there will be no storage for housing, but I honestly wouldn't care if the racks took up banking space if that is ZOS's concern. Currently managing sets across 8 characters is a pain, and having no real incentive to even purchase a house, a change like this would just tie everything together in a great, meaningful way.

I know that a friend of mine and I have a ritual where when either of us is feeling down on the game we'll just go someplace together and fish. Just fish, look around, enjoy the sights and sounds. It's a very meditative experience. It isn't about what you catch, either, it's just about taking the time to slow down.

I have played around with the housing editor quite a bit, and its surprisingly versatile. This could easily be extended to player-made dungeons. I think this would breathe a ton of new life into the game. I mean yes, it would take players weeks to make a good dungeon...but then it could be offered on a dungeon-maker leaderboard for play by the community and of course those at the top of the leaderboard each month could receive nice rewards for the work they put in. Once a dungeon received enough 5 star reviews, it could be submitted to ZoS for placement in the real world. The trickiest part would be to make challenging boss mechanics using pre-packaged boss attacks, but I am sure it could be done if the player-designer was allowed to modify dmg and resistance, etc. It would lead to some amazing content and I believe housing demonstrated it could be done if ZoS chose.

I have read other forums talking about wager/bet systems in games. A lot of games can't implement any type of gambling due to state/federal law.

We have some lawyerly types on these forums and I bet (lol) they could tell us why we can't do that type of thing.

This one would suggest a structure, which would operate similar to trading but allow for very open ways of doing things like raffles, tournaments, mini games, etc. Example:

Khajiit wants skooma but only has a 100g. This one is good at checkers and invites lizard friends to play a game of checkers at house. Each game we bet 100g and winner takes all. The money is held by the item so that you don't depend on slippery lizards dropping their gross tails and running away with Khajiit's skooma money.

This would also let people that want to do a fight tournament to put money on a tournament paper at a person's house which will then use the dueling and ready check/queue system to start the duels. Doing this at a house let's the house instance take care of all of the complexities without worrying about the open world's server resources.

So in this one's head if you make items that the house owner "creates a quest" inside of their house instance and then allows others to interact with it based on the rules they set up on the object, you essential use the questing, housing, dueling, and ready/check systems in place already to do something awesome and player driven in game.

This is workable yes? You pay Khajiit in skooma now?

Naw. There are other things to fix first.

    ....kidding. She stays calm, yess?
In another land this one she recalls an excellent music system - people got together to both play music and watch others doing so. We were able to use the system provided to entertain ourselves and others almost infinitely.

I think we should be able to play music and dance together, like, if I'm playing the lute and someone gets close, he or she has the option to play with me, maybe the lute but maybe the drum or else. The same tune, and synchronized. Same for dancing, let people make round dances for instance, or couple dances. Maybe that's how it was in your land, does she remember more details?
Little games of dice at a tavern - purchasable little games for the home. Dice, Orcish pebble games, frog racing, a simple sort of card game of snap.

All that sounds good to me, especially the frog racing. Can make a little gameplay around it with frog feeding and training, also gambling on races.
    Chasing things - like chickens.

This one sees where she's coming to, and approves.
A garden you can watch grow and change - and then have a chance of harvesting something nice from it.

    Gardens are very poor currently.
So yes, growing plants, slow-growth trees, and harvests would be much welcome. Rare seeds.

In general, I believe they should make less lifeless eye-candy, and more small interactions.

If they really do want suggestions to make the game better how about ones people have been wanting for awhile now

    Mostly..

    1. The ability to transmog or change the motiff style of any armor
    2. Change the trait on items

While I enjoy a good side game or system to take you away from the kind sometimes putting effort into things that people have been asking for really since launch is what they should be doing.
