If one really wants to grind points for the ranks it's better to just post in controversial threads with an opinion and you'll come out with a bunch of agrees. Otherwise just post stupid meme pictures as every post you make and you'll get points.
I generally found just posting good posts, with some witty remarks and trash posts here and there (which is how I've always posted) got reactions fast enough. The main thing is to just post a lot and be active on the forums.

There will be useless farming polls, but then we have useless farming threads and posts already. Besides, it's been a few years since there was a poll about "are there too many polls?" on every page.
