I like it. Just wish it were sleeveless. Like, remove the undershirt? Just have that vest on top. Farming is hard work y'know, your body needs to breathe. Though then again, this is the Dunmer. They are probably not doing any work themselves whatsoever.

Also where's mah Tail Tuft? I saw it in the Morrowind datamine YOU CAN'T HIDE THE FLUFF FROM ME FOREVER.

I like it, although I'll probably never wear it or buy it. However, there are 2 things that irk me about it. The first being that the costume isn't sleeveless. The second being the baggy pirate pants. I'm not saying that the pants should be glued to the character's body, as if leather pants no. But pants that fit to the character's model appropriately. I understand baggy pants can assist in keeping the legs with high amounts of mobility and breathing room, but they can also get snagged on numerous things as well.

They probably need the undershirt to save them from insects and harsh sunlight. If you try farming without proper clothes you will be burned to a crisp in a sunny climate :P

Not sure why but the first thing I think of is Star Trek when I see this costume.
Doesn't seem like clothes a farmer would wear.

LOOK HOW BIG HIS HANDS ARE. :o

LOL. I like the outfit, though, and will probably get it.
I'm just glad it has boots instead of sandals.

SO MUCH THIS. I had gotten so tired of sandals on costumes. Who adventures into rough terrain with flipflops?

Probably that one male Orc who rocks wedding dresses everywhere they go thinking they're funny and 'original' ;)

The pants are baggy because they're based on Japanese clothing m8

I thought wedding dresses on Orcs in PvP was meta.

This brings up an important question: can dunmer get sun-burned? Hell, can altmer? They can get pretty dark too.

Why would dunmer stuff be based on Japan? Is this something I just missed since I started playing ES games? I always thought dunmer were purposefully difficult to pin down to a single real-world culture, like most of the aldmer races.

No one is saying there aren't multiple interpretations of the lore, and we're not arguing that ESO did it "wrong".

We're arguing that they decided to go for the most boring, mundane, seen-before interpretation possible. Like they almost always do, unless they can ride on the coat-tails of past games.

Their style is indeed based on Japanese culture. Especially the way dunmer furniture is designed in ESO. It looks extremly similar.

The pants are baggy because they re-use assets constantly and basically just retextured the bottom half of the pirate outfit.

They're not drawn from a single real-world culture, which is one of their strengths in coming across as a highly original creation. But they absolutely draw heavily from Japanese culture, as we can pretty plainly between their sumi-ink artworks, chrysanthemesque motifs, papers and vellum lanterns, sloped roofs, paper room dividers, and far too many other examples to name.

this probably sounded pretty sick in your head, but given that all video games redeploy assets and that doing so creatively is a necessity in game design, I really can't say I care. What's important is that they brought a disparate element into a new context pretty successfully.

I guess I was just never able to pin down any specific culture from them. It's a testament to how well the elven races were designed back when the PGE was made. If anything, I always got a Mesopotamian and south Asian vibe from them, but ESO has definitely been upping the east Asian themes in the elven cultures.
