New Mounts Not Purchasable Via Gems

Lol. Let me get this straight... There are a massive amount of people in this video game that spend hundreds of dollars IRL to acquire rare looking mounts, costumes, ect. ZOS generates massive amounts of revenue from taking advantage of these people that are addicted to this form of online gambling? Stop complaining, you know what is going on here. ZOS keeps releasing all of this cosmetic stuff that no one actually needs, and costs an insane amount of money. You all keep buying it, further supporting what they are doing regardless of how hard it is to get what you are looking for. If you are not happy about how bad ZOS is bending you and your credit card over, stop supporting the feature! As Canada Bill Jones said, it's immoral to let a sucker keep his money. Rekt.

For the record, most people complain and stop buying things they no longer support. Granted, there are a few who eventually reevaluate their position, weigh the cost of the cosmetics they want, and purchase them anyway, but generally speaking, the complaint comes after the decision that an item or system isn't worth it.

Keeping this in mind, though, the complainers are usually the loudest players; there may be thousands of people contentedly buying anyway, which is a problem for those who are unhappy, because even though it seems like their viewpoint is most commonplace, it's really only an angry echo chamber and nothing will likely be done by the company to appease them. The anger builds, the complaints increase, but frustrations grow because it seems like nobody is listening - except they are: to the happy, silent playerbase dumping out their wallets behind the scenes.

I'm also pretty sure people who buy things for rare-factor are actually quite... well, rare. But since we can't repaint our mounts, their armor, or any associated accessories, the bulk of buyers are really after the unique color patterns and style features. I have a character with a black and gold/bronze theme, so I was looking forward to getting the black/bronze senche from the crates... until I found out that it was drop-only. Now I'm basically just hoping they put out another one that looks similar so I can complete my character's costume, because I'm fairly certain the odds will never be in my favor.

The gems were a compromise by the studio to appease the complaints about having no way to get what you actually wanted from the RNG. This is the studio's F U to that compromise.

I dunno why I keep giving them the benefit of the doubt; they're probably just horribly greedy, shady people, but I think a different issue is at play. It's not just malice.

The gem conversion rate is low, but with the amount of garbage items we get per pull, it may also be unintentionally inflated. Mimic stones, for instance, can be cashed in at a 1:1 rate - and I dunno about anyone else, but I get a lot of them across a 15 box set. Potions/Poisons are similarly numerous (though the exchange rate is lower), and now these new scrolls, house decorations, and food items are super valuable (by conversion standards, anyway).

Because things like this make it "too easy" for people to stop buying the boxes and just cash out for the item they want, they were faced with two options: Increase buying incentive or devalue gems. Either way, people are thoroughly pissed, but at least with the drop-exclusives, only a few people are screwed instead of every single crate buyer being screwed. There's a ripple of outrage at this new feature, and a couple of items that drop a lot more frequently than expected, but can you imagine the riot if everyone only got half the amount of gems they'd normally expect?

I said this in another thread:

"The only thing I want to say about the "don't buy them if you don't like it" argument is this:

Its not like I LIKE the crates. I want the product in them. I like the new cosmetic upgrades I can give my character. BUT with this argument, I'm still missing out on content that I would gladly pay for if it were appropriately sold in the store because I want to "show the man". This makes me sad and still hurts me more than them in the end."

Exactly! Not even people who defend them think it's the best system. Who would choose to gamble instead of paying for an item outright, if they had the option? It's pretty much guaranteed the crates always sell enough to justify themselves, at least until they get switched out for something even more expensive, so for a lot of players, refusing to buy even though you really want something is just losing twice.

Actually, I take that back. A friend of mine likened it to losing dozens of times; every time she sees someone riding a mount or wearing a costume she loved, but ultimately had to miss out on, she feels sad and loses a little enthusiasm for the game, despite how much fun she has with the rest of it.

The forums is toxic, and people are stupid.

Many will spends they're paychecks on crown crates and not get a thing. Than post on the forums about how much they hate Zos ( though crown crates aren't required to play and there's nothing P2W in them)

Than others will get lucky with one of two and get cut down by the salty toxic forums members (presumably as they microwave another pizza pop)

What else would I do at work besides complain on the forums about where I spend the money that I earned complaining on the forums?

How can you complain about toxic posts with a toxic post? Who attacks people who got lucky? I have yet to see this. People can voice their dislike of a system with their reasons. They are valid, not everyone plays an mmo for the same reasons. P2W would anger the competitive players, not all players are here to play competitively.

I do give ZOS credit as P2W has not reared its ugly head in this game yet, but if it does that will be the last straw. I can see it now, sharp vma weapons 20k crowns!!!

P2W would be an option to buy dropped gear, or something that increases your dps/playing ability.
