Why doesn't anyone trade plans?

I KNOW there are other completionists out there besides me; we all want to know all the furniture plans. There have been times where I've seen one I didn't know in a kiosk; offered to trade a new blue morrowind or dwarven plan that (according to my MM data) was double the price of the one they were selling, and still had them say no thanks.

So why don't people want to trade?

Maybe they were afraid of scammers.
Or maybe they wanted to get gold for theirs, because they were saving money for something else.

Maybe they don't want the one you're offering - either to sell or use.

Maybe they don't trust you.

Who knows.

Have you tried asking the player you're trying to trade with why they don't want to trade? That's the only way you'll get the right answer.

Sure, but if it's gold they're after and they're selling a plan at say, 40k, and the mm/ttc data on the one I'm offering is 80k, you'd think they'd want the more expensive one to sell if I'm willing to trade plan for plan straight up.

Trading can't really be trusted. Anyone asking to trade rather than buy I ignore. I'll COD it, or sell it in the store that's it.

Plus they sell too well to bother trading.

The more plans you know the fewer you will find that you do not know. It is not different looking for unknown motifs when you only have a few left to learn.

Just pot luck finding the remaining ones.

I prefer selling on guild traders: more money for the guild via taxes, and I don't need to interrupt what I'm doing to go meet with someone to trade. Also, I'm not buying any furniture recipes fr the next few months, since I'm a cheapskate I'll wait for the prices to drop further.

I am ignoring the new plans since there is no systematic way for crafters to acquire them. I have every old plan already. I occasionally look into guild stores and buy new ones when prices have crashed to few k.

Looks like Morrowind broke this completionist thing for crafters. Funny, something that was supposedly an expansion (at least by price) turned out to be an average DLC. With all the irritations built in there, i returned back to old areas. There is no interest to new motifs nor plans.

I am constantly trading with my guildmates for plans I don't have.

Either directly or by dropping them in the bank then selling them out of there.

Could be a hard item to sell and they don't want to get stuck with one they already know

or, could just not be bothered to take the item down to then run out to meet for a trade (I wouldn't unlist to trade for only 40k)

those are the main initial thoughts that I have on the topic of it.

I personally find it rude when people message me offers for things I have up in a store. If I was wanting to negotiate or organise a trade I would travel through the zone chats advertising. That's only my preference so its unlikely the reason you encountered.

It is a good deal you offer though, I agree with having the higher priced itrem to sell as being nicer.

That said a lot of people probably don't wanna bother with whole unlist and re-list thing, plus many don't trust direct trades. You could just sell your pricey recipe yourself and then buy theirs

And I suppose a lack of trust in trades could be a reason, but man alive, it seems pretty bad when people don't feel like they can even use face-to-face trading without being cheated.

I dont know anyone who is willing to pay anything for furniture plans - they are common and houses are worthles sunless Rp'ers and they are generally broke lol

Diagrams have higher or lower value than others.

For example: You have a Purple quality, pie dish diagram.
I have a Purple, Telvanni Bookcase diagram.

No deal.

If I already have it, I'd rather sell it for 300k than trade you for a different one. I'll take the gold and buy what I want.

IME, MM data is often weeks or months out of date on purple furnishing plans and TTC is filled with plans priced way above what people are actually willing to pay. So you might be offering something that's not actually equivalent value, in addition to something the person doesn't want.

Have you tried asking around your guilds for trading partners? I wouldn't be comfortable trading with someone whispering me out of nowhere, but I have five guildies I regularly trade plans with.

Idk, I sold a blue quality blueprint for 65k a couple of days ago. Only took a day. Sold a few others for ~50k too. Sure they are new but seems there's plenty of demand.

I'm not offering to trade older plans like the pie dish for the newer plans like the telvanni stuff, because of course that would be crazy since the price differential is astronomical. I'm offering to trade new Morrowind and dwarven plans for other new Morrowind and dwarven plans that I don't know.

I know all the non-morrow/dwarven ones; I'm not interested in those.
