Seeking LA warden PvP advice

I just recently started getting into PvP with the launch of BGs. I hated Cyrodiil and the whole horse simulator/lag stuff, and so figured now was a good time to start digging into things. However, I don't really have any friends that PvP with the meta, so while I can to some degree test setups in a duel, it's not the best case testing scenario. I'm hoping to skip as much of the noobie 'Die, die, hit someone for piddly damage, die' x100 before actually gitting gud. I've seen a really lovely Magden build based around annuulment by JackDaniel (spelling? Can't quite recall), but I've never really liked shields. Hence, the following. I'd appreciate comments :D

Armor 5 light 2 heavy or 6 light 1 heavy, still deciding. All impen
5x Wizard's Ripost (3 jewelry, 2 armor pieces)
5x Shacklebreaker (because I'm cheap, poor and people in dungeon finder seem to suck more and more by the day). I'm thinking of trying to grind out amber plasm, though I've found my sustain to be okay-ish, so I'm open to other sets.
1x Either Infernal Guardian or that...sapling healy monster set thing that gives magicka regen.

Sharpened Fire staff/defending resto. Fire staff is gold, everything else is purple

Skills
Destro Bar
Screaming Cliff Racer - Damage and apart of my healing rotation. Each cast seems to (for now, hopefully it's intended xD) proc the Animal companion heal.
Deep Fissure
Frozen Device - This looks good to me on paper. I figure since everyone but dedicated ranged builds (aka sorcs) are gonna be in my face anyway, I might as well be able to root the stam builds coming my way, or pull them away from their group and into mine to be smashed. Also, I found WIzard's Riposte Minor Maim + Frozen Device Major Maim quite enticing. However, I've had issues putting this to use in practice - though that might be because I just jump into three enemy players alone. I should stop doing that. Considering switching out for Fetcherflies for more pressure.
Bird of Prey - Damage and mobility. However, I'm considering switching it out for Fetcherflies for more pressure
Blue Betty - So cute \o/ Also the buffs and whatnot.

Ult: Northern Storm - Because there's nothing better.

Resto bar
Corrupting Pollen - Heal Debuff to either force enemies out of position (if they really don't want to stand in it), or debuff them if they do stand in it to apply pressure. I also like that it'll go off no matter what - for those times when a NB has me CC'ed and is bursting
Lotus Blossom - Crit. I also try to maintain constant LA weaves for the heal, which adds on to the animal companion heal on ability usage.
Leeching Vines - Another heal. THis + Lotus LA heal + Cliff racer on ability use heal + Minor Lifesteal applied to whoever hits me is what I consider my main way or surviving. Hopefully this lets me go mostly offensive. Anyone have experience with the other morph?
Ice Fortress - Love that Minor Prot >.>
Shimmering Shield - For protection from ranged, plus will help Enchanted Forest uptime. It seems almost everyone uses at least one projectile insofar as I've been able to find. Has anyone tested the other morph that shoots out projectiles? Would appreciate input on that.

Enchanted Forest - For group support, or to recover from burst.

The rest
All points and enchants in magicka
Witchmother's Brew food
Atronach Mundus
Bosmer
No vamp - can't stand the appearance. The ugly/pastyness hits me harder than a proctato

Your not going to like hearing this but bosmer is the wrong class for magwarden PVP.

Any magic character not a high elf or breton is really gimping them self this patch.

Less magic = Smaller healz, less damage and a smaller pool to cast from.

For 99% of the game a off race is fine. But for PVP and vet trials you have to have the right build before you can even compete.

    Good luck!

Frozen Device, I think against better players you'll spend too much effort trying to get it to land - would be better in BGs like cap the flag though

Leeching Vines, I think lifesteal is cut in half by battlespirit, which would make lifesteal pretty worthless unless you're procing something. I use Living Trellis, which gives a small heal at expiration or recast - though more than x5 lifesteal triggers.

Corrupting Pollen is something I'm going to look into, as Budding Seeds is broken I may want access to an AoE defile, combat is usually so fluid that you'll not be near the heal when it expires

Lotus Bloom - I can see using it, but I can't help but think innerlight+Northern storm would be better? I don't run it myself.

I'm still on the fence about Fletcher, yeah it's a fantastic dot however there is no real way to take advantage, it might be however with Corrupting Pollen indeed a good way to maintain pressure - though I feel this is only really possible on a tanker build.

I am also on the fence about shards. On my build it's either an expensive one time roots - the dot on gripping literally is small it's hard countered by health regen stat, or an ground dot that has decent damage but easily avoidable - but it would be a mediocre replacement for frozen device if it doesn't work for you.

If you're running resto you really want Healing Ward. I personally use Healing Ward and Dampen Magic with Living Trellis and going to add ice Fortress

Without shields in light your gonna get melted, theres no real way around it unless you go heavy and stack some heal over times + resto ult or such.

Plus the ability to use necro easily is one of the main points of mag warden in light. Dampen in a 5/1/1 or 6/1 setup is great with 50k+ magicka.

Could try necro/wizards because the main works on shields which im guessing you know and basically gives you 15% more shields and works without them as well.
    PS4 EU DC

    Current CP : 756+

I have every character level 50, both a magicka and stamina version.

RIP my effort to get 5x v16 characters...

Sigh, the price I pay for being cute. Alas. Figured as much, thanks for the response!

I found that the lifesteal is indeed cut by battle spirit. However, I'm still messing around with Leeching vs. Trellis. Leeching seems better if I'm constantly on the offense, and probably better for the build I have in mind, but Trellis seems better for the meta/everything else.

I was considering running Orgnum's + Troll King + Wizard's Riposte and seeing how that went. Full light, maybe one or two heavy pieces. Even if it turns out to be worthless, it'll be LEL-worthy. 1h-shield/resto staff.

Was really hoping things could be different, but y'all are confirming my fears :( I don't have vamp, but might give it a shot to see if it makes things more bearable. I really, really hate that pretty much all magicka builds are forced to use a shield.

Thank you all for your responses :D May eventually give in and do a race change next time there's a sale.

What've you been using it for? Out of curiosity.

I use it to try and make my shieldless build work. A 6 sec, nice chunk of a heal that goes off even if I'm Cc-ed is very nice, and the heal debuff helps with stam builds - both with the heal going off even if I'm feared, to debuffing their heals so I can wreck them with Cliff Racer.

I wish they'd shave a second or so off the duration though, 6 sec feels just a bit too long.

I only use it for the defile, (42% with CP enabled Healing reduction) for a range defile. If I happen to get the heal - cool but not something I go for.

My heals come from Trellis and healing ward and in an emergency Enchanted Forest.- sometimes if in defensive mode I'll drop the pollen on where I'm standing so I can get the heal after I buff up.

Have some cool 1vX clips now

Its crazy how tanky it is with only 20k (ATM need tri Glyphs possibly and definitely undaunted) health.
