Returning player questions

Jack675
Jack675
Hey guys,

I'm a returning player to the game. I'm starting fresh as an Imperial DK. I'm playing on the PS4 on the EU server.

I played the game on release, I never played any of the DLC and never completed the main story line so I still had loads of content to get through.
Just wanted to ask a few questions about starting out again.

1) Should I work through the content chronologically or should I just "skip" to the new content ASAP.
2) I really enjoyed the trading & crafting before but there doesn't seem to be any stores that are actually selling any low level materials, are these now impossible to buy from other players due to the game progressing and advancing so much?
3) Is there going to be big enough player population at lower levels to allow me to run dungeons with players of a similar level to me as I advance?
4) Do i stand any chance in PVP once i hit level 10 or is that pointless to even try until endgame, e.g. is there any level scaling?

Thanks in advance.

    1. do whatever content you feel like doing, does not matter.
    2. guild traders sell low materials.
    3. you are going to find that you will be doing dungeons with all kind of different lvled players.
    4. if you play pvp on the less than lvl50 server.
Moons and sands shall be your guide and path.

    1. Just do what you want. One Tamriel allows you to go wherever you like, since you're battle-scaled to every zone you enter. So whatever sounds fun, go ahead and do, whether that's tackling the main quest, exploring the Wrothgar DLC, stealing from every house in the Pact, or fishing up all the rare fish.

    2. Low level materials are harder to find (though not impossible), since a large number of traders are at level cap, and zone crafting nodes are about 50% zone level and 50% character level. The best way to get low-level mats is to head to farm it yourself, either with a character who's at the correct level or in a zone that spawns that material.

    3. Don't worry about being the same level. Everyone is level-scaled, so you can run dungeons with a Level 4, a Level 49, and a CP 600, and not have a ridiculous difference between your difficulty (though the CP will still likely leave the rest of you in the dust, because of CP passives, skills, and gear XD ) Further, dungeons, in particular, are well-run, because the Undaunted now have dungeon dailies called Pladges. So yes, even though a lot of the population has leveled above most dungeons, all dungeons and delves have plenty of traffic to play with.

    4. There is level scaling... but you will still get filleted at level 10, because you lack the skills and gear. A non-CP campaign will put you on a bit more of an even footing. (CP = "Champion Points," which are a special kind of skill points that replaced Veteran Levels a while back, which give you perks and passives).
    Living vicariously through my characters.

    My Girls:
"If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"

(Signature idea shamelessly stolen from Abeille.)

    1. with regards to questing, if you have done the base game when you reach the dlc some of the npc/quest givers will recognise you, but it does not benefit you ie make the quests easier. so it really doesnt matter how you quest.
    2. low level materials are available, but somewhat rarer than the highest level material. if you enjoy both crafting & trading you could make some nice money for yourself gathering & selling low level materials. if you researched traits on your old character (asuming) you still have them, you could make yourself some nice set pieces and maybe some money selling them on traders.
    3. every dungeon in the game now has a normal and a vet version, and some have a story 1 & story 2 instance. until you reach level 50 you will only be able to play the normal versions. group finder is having problems at the moment so finding groups using this technique is difficult for everyone. and when its fixed people can be 'unhelpfull' to people below cp160 (this is the gear cap). so if you would like to slowly level & enjoy the content your best option would be to join a social guild, that participate in all aspects of the game & enjoy helping new & returning players.
    4. your best bet regarding PvP would be to find a social guild that also do the occasional trip into cyrodil, especially until you get used to your new character/get back into the game.

Like everyone says just do whatever you want. I like to follow the DLCs in order just because but ultimately its up to you.

Lower level material is a bit harder to find, sometimes expensive even. If you put a stack in a trader you will make some good money because they are always selling.

Dungeons are now scaled so you can run whatever dungeon at whatever level. Dungeon loot can be traded to your group but remember that its scaled to the level of the person it dropped for. For instance if you were level 15 and your team mates were level 30+. You wouldn't be able to use their gear till 30+ and they wouldn't want to use your gear because its 15.

They have non CP campaigns now so pvp SHOULDNT be a huge difference. Obviously level 50s with end game gear will wreck a 20 with crap quest gear. But follow a zerg and just *** faces.

    .

things changed about a year ago. materials you find have a 50/50 drop rate based on a characters level & their crafting ability. material is no longer zone based.

You can go anywhere in the world now and if you do quests or whatever you are scaled up to CP 160 to match the enemies. No need to do anything in any particular order. If you want to start in Vvardenfell, go for it.

I really enjoyed the trading & crafting before but there doesn't seem to be any stores that are actually selling any low level materials, are these now impossible to buy from other players due to the game progressing and advancing so much?
This is actually easier in a way. You can buy some low level mats for enchanting from the enchanting vendor for example. Usually you can find all the low level mats other players have listed in guild traders. The ones that will be more rare are the CP 10 to CP 150 stuff, as people are only experiencing that level for a very short time. (Once you have reached CP 160 on at least one character, then all your future characters will skip from level 49 directly to using CP 160 gear)

Is there going to be big enough player population at lower levels to allow me to run dungeons with players of a similar level to me as I advance? Everyone who is low level is scaled up to CP 160, so it doesn't matter what level they are. Not exactly sure, but the population seems higher than it was a year or two ago.

Do i stand any chance in PVP once i hit level 10 or is that pointless to even try until endgame, e.g. is there any level scaling? Yes the way it works now is a lot different than it used to. Your level scaling takes into account whether your gear is at your character level and the quality of the item. So if you are level 10 with all purple or gold gear, you will have extremely high stats. I know some people who get a kick out of beating up CP 630 players in duels on their lowbie. At any rate, I would probably still wait until around level 20-30 or so so you can get unlock more passive and active abilities. Whenever you enter Cyrodiil as a lowbie, you also want to keep making new armor every 5 - 6 levels or so, and upgrade it to at least purple.

True that you can go anywhere but:

    a. If you like a more "criminal" way of life for your character and you have all DLC's, go to Abbah's Landing first to grab the Blade of Woe (really short quest sequence to get it) than go to Hew's Bane and start working slowly to improve your Thief Guild rank (do the initials quests until you unlock the dailies, then just do those). Improving your Thief rank will also improve your Legerdemain skill line :)

    b. In the meantime, work on Mages and Fighters guilds quests and the main quest (main quest is a good way to get skill points)

    c. If you still have time () go zone by zone, grabbing all skyshards while questing, skill points are what I found to be more scarce and precious at early levels.

    d. For PvP, as long as you remain in the under lvl 50 campaign, you should be fine, after level 50 just go to a no-CP one

Best of luck and welcome back :)
