Just like many before me and many after me..

The way you designed this game to drop vMA weps is stupid. If anyone wants a exact weapon.. say for example destro sharp they have something like 0.72% of getting it PER run. That is stupid. No token system, no system saying that after x amounts of runs you get the weapon just a straight 0.72% drop chance PER run. This is stupid.

This does not reward skill. Some people get what they want first try. Some are over 1000 runs without getting the item they want. Myself have only done vMA like 100 or so times and the only sharp item I have got is a restro lol.

I need 2 sharp vma staffs. I cant even get one, I may NEVER get one. Who knows. Just to make a point I just used a random number generator. I set it to 1-100 as the possible outcomes. I chose 44 as my random choice. 44 Representing the wep I want. I randomly generated a number over and over and took 105 attempts to get the number 44.

Using the generator took a second or so each time and it took 105 times to get the number I selected. ALSO the number was 1 of the 100 possible numbers. SO that is way more likely than the 0.72% rate that a desired vma wep would drop. It still took 105 including the EXTRA 0.28% chance added on top for free.

Unreasonable.

    I understand how you feel. But for whatever the reason, the developers simply just don't care too much for making certain/specific Maelstrom Weapons easier to obtain. Whether it be with a: Token system, trade-in system, etc. The community has shared numerous ideas with the developers. But unfortunately, they are ignored for the most part. We can only hope and wish that 1 day ZOS tones down the layers of RNG involved. And on the day in which that comes, ZOS will have a myriad of appreciative and happy players playing their game from that decision. They'd probably also attract a fair amount of players who quit due to their experiences with RNG as well.

    You are 100% correct and I know this can be annoying to see all the time but I feel that the community needs to keep pestering the developers since the developers dont care and think that "painful rng" is end game.

    IMO zos will only change the rng for gear as a direct response to a death spiral in subs,and that will be too late,my only idea would be if people just stopped doing vma maybe the devs would get so brassed off their hard work was being ignored they may do an aboutface

    I just wish they would at least engage with the community and respond- allow us to be active in helping improve the game. i know they want us to play and replay - i mean farming in mmos is what keeps people coming back. but farming cant be more important than the actual game. if u did a poll on what people spend their time on in game- i d bet that 80 percent of it is farming- and 20 percent actually playing.

    I guess that enough people are still running vMA so according to ZOS' statistics the low drop chance works as a time sink providing enough motivation for players to run this over and over.

    Sure, less RNG via a token system would be more fair, but ZOS' strategy (like in most MMOs) is to rely on addictive behavior.

    Unfortunately there's more profit in gambling-like gameplay and selling cosmetic pixels for ludicrous amounts than by providing a game that is fair and pleasant.

    I simply avoid the RNG by relying on crafted sets or farming with friends which has a social fun factor which motivates me.

    1. They know RNG is a huge pain point in the game that needs to be addressed.
    2. They have (or were) talking about if a token system would work.
    So they're listening and working on things, but it's not something I feel they should rush out and end up having yet another awkward bolt on mechanic which breaks everything.

    How can somebody really do that super boring VMA 30, 50, 100 times just to get a weapon with the right trait? Come on, you don't even need the sharpened Maelstrom weapons. But if you want them so bad... well, the timesink called VMA seems to be working.

    I did around 30 in a week a long time ago. Did one every once and a while from then on. Got to a 100 and yes it is lame.

    I don't know exactly what interviews it was said in, but the UESP did a breakdown of all Morrowind news and it was listed in there, as well as the joke about Rich Lambert not having a Sharpened Inferno staff from MSA yet.

    I think they know they need to do something (it's clear they do) but they probably don't want to make any announcements until it's closer to release. Otherwise they'll just be hounded with questions and speculation.

    All my thoughts on the matter as well, other than the knowledge of the comments in interviews I have no idea what their thought process on this one is.

    First I agree with you, the rng in there is so stupid, I'm pretending that precise is BIS for destro staves.

    But I can't let the rng example slide. If you are getting 105 iterations to reach 44 EACH time you run the experiment, then you are seeding the same rng sequence each time. This not a good demonstration because you are in effect doing one trial many times and obviously generating the same results. Just my two cents.

    Thats not the example I tried to give. I ran the random number generator and took 105 times to get the item I wanted. Then I did it two more times, both took around 80 times ea. It was not 105 EACH time. That was just the example I gave and the first time I did it.

    EDIT: The "each time" was "each time I pressed the button it would randomly generate a number" NOT each time I did the test I got 105 lol.

    Hope that is more clear.

    I just wanna say my hat goes off to the people who run vMA 100+ times to get crap. Ive run it exactly -0- times because of hearing this.. that in itself is whats wrong.

    Although I have my sharpened VMA weapons, it took me over a hundred runs.

    It was not fun, and I feel uber lucky to have gotten them.

    I agree with the original post. You could do a flawless run through VMA just to get a garbage weapon trait combo. Given the level of difficulty, it's just painfully stupid to have done so much hard work for no reward.

    I sympathise that the drop rate is low.

    However I think you just have to adapt your mindset. Grinding any content is dull. Farming any content is dull. Is players choose.to do it because they want a shiny item, its kinda on them.

    Is the few % gain in DPS really worth it? What can't you do without that staff? Most players in for over 100 runs have completed all the vet trials etc anyway.

    I know its 'BIS' etc but really how much does it matter. At least you are playing the game. Once you get one all it means is a marginal increase to score on Trial runs and what does that matter? People complain end game is too easy anyway, so why make it easier, will that lead to longevity of play?

    Not trolling. I get people like the shiny items. My point is perception, what does it really matter.

It is a bit backward to how western society works as we have lots of goal setting in our everyday lives though it is what it is. In a way its a forced random character generator - switch to the character you end up getting the right items for.

    Either way in a couple years they will add new items that make it all obsolete. Power creep is inevitable and once they settle on a system that more people enjoy, maelstrom will be another thing of the past. There is more profit in selling a new system then there is in adjusting old ones.

    The way you designed this game to drop vMA weps is stupid. If anyone wants a exact weapon.. say for example destro sharp they have something like 0.72% of getting it PER run. That is stupid. No token system, no system saying that after x amounts of runs you get the weapon just a straight 0.72% drop chance PER run. This is stupid.

    Unreasonable.


    You've never tried farming the Infinity when Borderlands 2 was just out, huh? It had a 0.7% drop rate on Doc Mercy and comes in 11 prefixes and 4 elements. Would you like to do the math on how many times you'd have to kill Doc Mercy on average to get a Vengeful Infinity with Corrosive element?

    You still don't need the sharpened Maelstrom weapon, do you? There are other options. And the ~ 5% difference to an easier to get second best staff are more than negligible.

    (nevertheless I agree that ESO needs a token system)

    This does not reward skill. Some people get what they want first try. Some are over 1000 runs without getting the item they want. Myself have only done vMA like 100 or so times and the only sharp item I have got is a restro lol.

    "Play how you want" - ESO... I call bs. Should of said "Play based on what BIS drops first, trolol have fun without token system and insane RNG" because thats what people do.

    I need 2 sharp vma staffs. I cant even get one, I may NEVER get one. Who knows. What I do know is I dont want to keep doing vMA and if this is your idea of keeping people logging in to do "content" you will find that with me and maybe others we dont log on due to a unlikely or unreasonable goal in which you have set. (No this is not a quitting post. So dont try to remove it to silence another complaint on bs terms)

    I understand how you feel. But for whatever the reason, the developers simply just don't care too much for making certain/specific Maelstrom Weapons easier to obtain. Whether it be with a: Token system, trade-in system, etc. The community has shared numerous ideas with the developers. But unfortunately, they are ignored for the most part. We can only hope and wish that 1 day ZOS tones down the layers of RNG involved. And on the day in which that comes, ZOS will have a myriad of appreciative and happy players playing their game from that decision. They'd probably also attract a fair amount of players who quit due to their experiences with RNG as well.

    I just wish they would at least engage with the community and respond- allow us to be active in helping improve the game. i know they want us to play and replay - i mean farming in mmos is what keeps people coming back. but farming cant be more important than the actual game. if u did a poll on what people spend their time on in game- i d bet that 80 percent of it is farming- and 20 percent actually playing.

    This right here. The devs are very, very closed off when it comes to response. But it doesn't seem that this was always true. There's a massive thread on Cyrodiil somewhere in here, forget what its called. Up until about 1 or 1.5 years ago, the devs were regularly chiming in, discussing issues with players. But it appears that around the beginning of 2016 that stopped for some reason. Idk if this is true on all aspects, but it does seem to me like there used to be far more back and forth with players and legit transparency. Now ZOS has their lips stapled shut. They appear only to occasionally confirm little updates of no real consequence, or talk about some small pve related quest bugs. It sucks and its really sad to see. I think this game was going great places, as we can all see from the obvious potential but the way its run, whoever happens to be making that call, has really cut the game off at the knees.

    Now I see why people wanted tokens to purchase weapons and gear in dungeons. I would like to see a system work like this even for VMA and battlegrounds. With all that grinding lease it will be worth something to get some kind of currency to purchase items that you truly want even if they are high price.
