Do you make skinny characters?

I don't see skinny very realistic for a person constantly fighting. He/She is gonna gain some mass from all that running and fighting.
If you are a mage who just uses a staff that is different.

    Do you make skinny characters?
...when it fits my character idea, yes!

I have several skinny characters - its an common look for medieval commoners after all. Most of them are mages though, the only somewhat skinny fighter I have is my ninja-ish main... and she is more of a dancer skinny since her backstory has her fighting more relying on skill and agility then strength...

Of course, I also have a muscled amazon, a burly mountain man, a fat ex-guard, a padded-in-the-right-places priestess...
It all depends on how I envision the character according to their backstory.

All my characters are made on the skinniest settings possible because I prefer it that way. I think muscular characters look a bit daft in this game.

All boils down to taste. Aesthetics in this instance are purely a personal inclination. There is no right and wrong here.

Depends on the character. My khajiit is very skinny because she's supposed to look like she hasn't had regular meals for years. (She is NOT anorexic - that is a psychological problem where weightloss is just one possible symptom - not a catch-all term for anyone thinner than your personal beauty standards.) She uses daggers and magic in combat, relying on speed and stealth over pure strength so not only does she not need to be heavily muscled, it would actually be unrealistic.

At the other extreme my Imperial is fat. He's a retired soldier, he's supposed to look like he kept eating enough to build muscle but wasn't doing the exercise to go with it.

And the others are the same. They look how I think someone living that life would look, not simply conforming to my ideal or any modern western lifestyle or expectations.

Entirely depends on the race, class and what kind of attitude i'm going for.

My current main is a tall and well built altmer sorc lady with wide hips, muscular arms and legs and average sized breasts and dreads. She's an imposing but beautiful figure who doesn't take any crap from anyone and gets the job done.

My Breton nightblade is short and skinny with short hair, freckles and an an upturned nose. She has a 'boyish' figure with small breasts and narrow hips, and is quick with sharp wit and sharper blades. Skinny arms and legs are in proportion to her short height.

I've seen some characters around ESO who looked extremely thin - as in, too thin to fight, and the armour/costumes they wore fitted strangely, possibly due to a combination of body sliders, armour, race, etc. I just don't find it attractive, due to my own real life experiences which I'm not going to discuss.

As you can see my the characters in my main account, some can even be considered slim, some are built for war, and some have extra padding because they're lazy and spend a lot of time in town, picking pockets and eating sweetrolls.

I understand, there are certain aspects about myself that I never give to any of my characters. To avoid self-insertion, you know. My skinny characters are all very different from me in every other aspect because of that. Like, my Bosmer is dark-skinned and has red hair and my Altmer has black hair (shh let me dream), I don't.
Edited by Abeille on June 18, 2017 11:59AM
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

My girls have varied body types. My two "skinny" ones would be my little-old-lady Argonian and my gawky 15-year-old Breton girl, though my Altmer scholar leans into "gangly" a bit, too. These body types are just part of who they are, just as much as my curvy girls own their various curves.

Though I'll agree with @Anlace that some of it also depends what they're wearing. My 15-year-old looks awful in anything skin-tight, like the Thieves Guild or Dark Brotherhood costumes, because they make her look like a toy... but put her in something that thicks up her torso a bit, like the Noble Suit or Soiree in Camlorn, and she rocks those.
    Living vicariously through my characters.

    My Girls:
"If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"

I don't like the chest slider.

All it does is make them wider, and it looks weird.

I don't like scrawny. I can't stand huge arm and thigh gaps. I know people irl like that and they don't eat. One of them I'm pretty sure is anorexic, but bringing it up just makes her angry.

So yeah. I find it super unattractive. Sue me.

I vary the body shape/size of my characters depending on what I envision them doing.

Stamina DPS tend to be larger, more muscular individuals. Doesn't matter if they're a man or a woman. I give them enough beef to look like they can get the job done reasonably well without going beyond my personal preferences. They will usually be towards the upper right of the weight triangle, but not fully maxed out. I am not a fan of super buff characters.

My magicka builds tend to be smaller and less muscular. The reasoning for that being that they're mainly casting spells. What matters there is the strength of their minds, not the power of their arms or legs. Even so, I don't generally put them in the smallest part of the weight triangle. The only real exceptions for that are if I'm making an older character, or one that was, perhaps, a former slave.

My tanks generally follow the same ideas behind my stamina DPS. They need to look like they can do their job, but I still avoid maxing out the muscle. My one exception to that happens to be a magDK DPS turned tank. He is an Argonian that was once a slave to the Dunmeri people, and as a result, I made him rather thin. Unfortunately, he does look rather odd to me as a tank, but I can't be bothered to spend the crowns on an appearance change at the moment.

    NO BODY SHAMING!

Now walk down the street naked. Shame! Shame! Shame!

    Lol.

I try to make my characters appropriate to their story. My main is a stamblade assassin thief, so he's a little lithe. Not scrawny, but thinner. Like the guy in Legion. My Templars are both bulkier. I guess I felt that the Templar training schools would require a lot of PE for both magic and stamina Templars. My mag sorc is tall but fit, and my stam sorc is pretty buff because he didn't want to be made fun of because he was a sorc.

That's the way I feel about my female characters but admitting to it might lead people to think I am sexist...

I do wish there was a setting for neck 'length' - I find that if I give a female character a 'slender' neck, she ends up looking someone who has had the neck rings put on her to stretch her neck.

I tried to make my last male healer look fat but the most I could get was a pot belly look and all of the clothes he wears really seemed to accentuate it. I figured as a healer he was just standing around casting spells and waving his wand so may not necessarily be the fittest character going around.
