Stamina vs Magicka Nightblade

My very first character in ESO is my NB (started playing ESO 3 months ago).

I leveled him as Stamina NB upto level 15 and was highly frustrated by the lack of healing/survivability.

After that i respecced him as Magicka and so far the leveling is a blast.

Amazing survivability with perma stealth/Vampire/Ward/Regen (resto staff) and very good AOE from Destro/Siphon/Shadow trees.

I am just curious to know what a Stamina NB can do that Magicka NB cannot do better ??

Or is it just boils down to personal preference ??

In lower levels all stamina classes are pretty crap compared to magicka.

In endgame PvE, magicka is kinda popular cause its easier to survive (although slightly less damage). In endgame PvP, stamina is very popular cause its more mobile and plenty of other reasons.

So yes, in the end it boils down to preference.

Stamina NB is more popular, especially at endgame and pvp.
Magicka NB is kind of pushed aside and forgotten about.

Just google "eso nightblade build" and the only builds you'll find are stamina ones.

Personally, I like Magicka NB more because I've got more survivability. But Stamina NB all they've got going for them is abit more damage than Magicka NB's. Though with the state NB's are in right now, I wouldn't be going off and gloating about that. We are still dealing with some dps problems at the moment.

Main as magNB since March 2014. At this very moment stamNB has arguably marginally better single-target DPS and obviously better burst in PvP. The recent change to Leeching Strikes allows you to heal quite consistently - even on stamNB without Vigor. It's not as good as Funnel/Swallow Soul but it's nice and it's there. magNB rotation is quite complex but the gameplay experience feels extremely rewarding.

In terms of leveling, magicka generally feels easier because most classes get a damage skill and a heal/survivability skill for magicka right off the bat--whereas generally stam gets these from later weapon lines, skill morphs, or AvA lines.

Magicka NB simply takes A LOT more skill to play but in my opinion the much more rewarding class once you're good at it.
A large variety of skills and play styles which make you unpredictable too.
Stam NB is prob sets, vigor and just dodge rolling. Such a boring style of play and so predictable.

Stam nightblades not having healing/survivability?? What?? Are you even using any of the skills in the shadow, siphon and dual wield trees???

    Shadow:
    (Ultimate) - Bolstering Darkness:
    • Conjure a ring of shadows around you, reducing enemy Movement Speed by 70% and granting you and your allies Major Protection, reducing your damage taken by 30%. You reduce your own damage taken by an additional 30%.
    • Low Health allies in the target area can activate Hidden Refresh, granting invisibility, increasing their Movement Speed by 50% and healing them for [x] over 4 seconds.
    • You reduce your own damage taken by an additional amount.
    (active) - Refreshing Path:
    • Create a corridor of shadows, dealing [x] Magic Damage to enemies in the target area every 1 second.
    • While on the path and for up to 2 seconds after leaving it you and your allies are healed for [y] Health every 1 second. You also gain Major Expedition increasing your Movement Speed 30%.
    • Path also heals you and your allies.

    Siphoning:
    (Ultimate) - Soul Tether:
    • Ravage nearby enemies’ souls with a night rune, dealing [x] Magic Damage and stunning them for 4.5 seconds. Affected enemies are also tethered, siphoning [x] Health every 1 second while they remain nearby.
    • An ally can target an affected enemy and activate Soul Leech to steal [x] Health.
    • Deals additional damage over time to enemies and heals you.

    (active) - Funnel Health:
    • Steal an enemy’s life force, dealing [x] Magic Damage and healing you and 1 other nearby ally for 25% of the damage inflicted every 2 seconds for 10 seconds.
    • Heals yourself and 1 other nearby ally.

    (active) - Leeching Strikes:
    • Imbue your weapons with soul-stealing power, causing your Light and Heavy Attacks to restore [x] Health and [y] Stamina for 20 seconds.
    • You restore additional Stamina when the effect ends, based on the time this ability is active.
    • This ability now also restores Stamina via Light and Heavy attacks, and when the ability ends.

    Dual Wield:
    (Ultimate) - Rend:
    • Slash all enemies in front of you, dealing [x] Physical Damage over [16] seconds and healing you for [50]% of the damage done.
    • Increases the duration.

    (active) - Bloodthirst:
    • Flood an enemy with steel, battering them with five consecutive attacks that each deal [x] Physical Damage.
    • The final hit deals 300% more damage and heals you for 60% of the damage caused.
    • The final hit heals you for a percentage of the damage caused.

    (active) - Blood Craze:
    • Slice enemy with both weapons to cause deep lacerations, dealing [x] Physical Damage and causing them to bleed for an additional [y] Physical Damage over 9 seconds.
    • You also heal for [z] Health every 2 seconds for the duration.
    • Also heals you while active.

Survivability is not purely about the amount of self-heals. stamNB is melee DPS (unlike magNB) and it's far more difficult to avoid boss' heavy-hitters/1-shots with him. Even though stamina-based characters have access to Blade Cloak - they still lack proper damage shield Magicka users have access to. And shield is #1 surviving tool for heavy-hitters/1-shots.

Most of those are magicka heals and some of those are not nightblade skills.

Out of all classes stamina nb has the worst heals, thats a fact.

However it does heal differently than others, others stack stats and then rely on minor/major mending or other skills like crit surge.

Stam nb relys on crit cloak to heal as all your heals crit in it. You don't have as high base heals but you get more crit heals.

Hence why shadow is so good, 12% crit heals + 12% extra dmg from crit cloak.

Bolstering darkness, its an ultimate, not exactly useful 90% of the time, also its quite a bad ultimate in pvp.
Tether, its a nice heal but again its an ult... + it does magicka dmg so in cp campaign it wont hit too hard.

Both funnel and refreshing are terrible heals for a stam nb because there magicka skills and scale off spell dmg + magicka.

Leeching strikes is a terrible skill now anyway but the heal on it isn't that great and it useless when you need heals most. If you get burst you won't be attacking to heal will you? You'll vigor/cloak/rally.

So stam nb has nothing in class skills that really help its heals.
