ESO Looting System: A HUMONGOUS WASTE OF TIME AND EFFORTS thanks to RNG god, but is still savable.

True, but in some MMO's it's worse than in others. ESO has one of the worst loot system I know. It's more like D3 without bad luck protection and other systems to compensate.

Your ideas sound nice to all people bored to death with RNG god (me including). But as a pro-trader I also must say that your ideas would totally and utterly ruin the marketplace as a whole.

People spend tons of their legitimate gameplay time to hunt for specific set item+trait combos to provide them to you. Yes. They cost a bunch but allowing the purchase of a few cheap crap-traited set items only to recraft it into proper traited one... I guess you see where it's going.

Anyway - there should be some way of getting rid of RNG cockblocking people's way to e.g. vMSA Sharpened Staves.

We need a token system in dungeons and trials (including vMA). Overland can stay the way it is.
Definitely. Too bad those kind of topics pop-up for 2+ years now and ZOS doesn't give a poo about it. :|

No offense OP, but overwatch has is a grind-fest too with the lootboxes for the different skins and such. Or you can buy the boxes with real money... So dont complain about RNG. Thats the way games work now.

@F7sus4 So easy fix here is make it only work on BoP items.

Nothing taken from the marketplace that way, but a bit less painful for every other bound set out there.

OP, I like the overall idea and the implementation sounds like it would fit well.

I think it should be a % chance to return the shard or % chance to craft the piece (per shard) just like normal crafting/upgrading is. Want to up the odds of success, decon more combos for more shards.

For those arguing it's the nature of the game, I'd agree if it wasn't for the fact that sets long since acquired get hit so hard they essentially become no longer viable from major patch to major patch.

If you're updating gear on a max level alt, it should be because that gear provides some new functionality, not because the gear you've already grinded, upgraded, enchanted, and golded out is suddenly little more than a doorstop.

Gear should supplement the builds. It shouldn't make them.

Just because you don't like the way something is doesn't necessarily make it wrong...

the fact you have grinded this is the fact why they won't make rng better, keep jumping through the hoops they'll give you more/smaller hoops to jump through, thats how mmo's work now, like you have some immortal avatar that plays, not a mortal flesh and bones real person that has at best 80 yrs of time to play with,go use that time better

This right here... so much easier to just farm/buy overland sets than dungeon/trial sets. At least I dont have to rely on a group to sit at a dolmen/WB/delve for hours to farm a few divines pieces LOL

So, I like to golf. And sometimes I go to the driving range and spend hours practicing very mundane, fundamental things, and that practice isn't fun at all. But I do it because it makes the game of golf more fun when I actually do play it, because the practice made me better, I make fewer mistakes, and the round ends up more enjoyable.

Same thing in a game. I spend time grinding for gear because it makes my character better, which means when I actually go to play the stuff the I enjoy, I have more fun because it's easier and I am more successful.

Min-maxing and gear grinding are a means to an end, and it's okay if it's not all puppy dogs and fireworks.

@Smasherx74 If you're in multiple end game vet trial guilds like me, you'll know how competitive we're in min max dps parse. Like I said, I can just make a 5 piece set of Julianos, do some pledges to get a llmabris sets and do some random normal dungeons for a full set of Willpower jewelry, then make 2 random Lightning staves and wala, my MagSorc can go beat vAA with my crew. But if you want to get into the leaderboard, or even have a chance to finish vMOL or vHOF, I'd better go farm that Darkshade Cavern for Netch Touch, some vet trials for IA jewelry and get 2 Maelstrom Lightning Staves.

    Wala? No. Just...No.

Interesting responses. @Pr0Skygon loved your idea, a good balance between grinding and grinding to the point of pulling out your hair. You did not ask for easy mode or more freebies. Clearly you thought this through. Nice job!

Lots of dead horse threads on these forums but for this topic I fully support it.
Best way to let them know how we feel is boycotting the upcoming dungeon DLC, since instanced dungeons are imho the worst offenders, but that's not gonna happen and ppl with ESO+ (like me) get it anyway.

Its not even about grinding vs not grinding. Its about how unfair an RNG system like this is. For every person that gets lucky and obtains their BiS weapon on the first couple of tries there is one who will have to grind for months and still might get nothing. Someone always gets screwed.

Just implement a token system. You can still make getting items as grindy as you want with that.

    Hi guys
Sorry for not reading any reply lately, I either was just too busy with works (no I stopped my grinding fest, just daily writs for now), or just plain forgot about it :persevere:

Just want to tease some news for you guys. I've spammed this thread like crazy on other forum with tons of positive and supports from many many players. Till the point that ZOS has just send me a message, saying that "We've heard your opinion, now stfu".

Thank you for supporting my thread. Have never thought my little idea can become the voice for so many of you guys.

And when I mean "little idea", I literally mean it, it only took me about 5 - 10 mins to came up with this idea. Which means, if ZOS really wants to, or someone in ZOS just raise up their hands, and say "we need some work on our RNG bs", then life would have been a lot easier for us gamer. But then again, ZOS isn't someone who just spoil their players with features too far ahead, they've learned it from the spellcrafting announcement (nothing new coming from ZOS since early 2016 about this).

Also, I'd love to have a little note to anyone who still think that "The game is fine now, the rng is fine, this is fine, I love the game". Yes, me too, I love ESO. But loving doesn't mean I have to support or agree on everything that ZOS implemented into the game.

Always remember guys: THE GAME SERVES US, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. ESO was meant to give us joy, quality time for ourselves, and share it with everyone else in our community. WE DO NOT SERVE THE GAME. We do not have to accept 100% with the games. If somethings annoy you in ESO, simply avoid it and warn everyone else. If something annoy a tons of your friends, guildmates and basicly the majority of the community, you make a thread and tell ZOS to make changes to the game, and if you do, make it big. So let's make it big guys! ZOS has already heard us, so now let's make them agree with us. There're many things have been changed due to community uproar (and next up is transmorg, ZOS has already confirmed it). SO LET'S NEVER STFU GUYS!

    - The unique deconstruct station: This station will only work if you put in 5 piece of armor and/or weapon with the same set of item (for exp: 4 armor pieces and a 1H sword of Spriggan). Once you put these 5 ingredients in, they'll be deconstructed into a shard of it own set (for exp: a Spriggan shard, a Twice Fang Serpent shard). These shards are bound on pick up.
    - The special crafting stations: These station will allow you to make a specific item with the piece, style, trait and set of your choice, depends on the shard that you put in (for exp: with this system, I can make a Divine Dro m'athra Netch Touch robe with 150 ancestor silk, 1 sapphire, 1 Defiled Whiskers and 1 Netch Touch shard comes from the unique deconstruct station).

Like the idea of set shards. But it seems to me that your idea of deconstructing them might need a bit refinement:
-Make deconstruct of any set piece have a chance to drop a set shard fragment of that set. (e.g. maelstrom weapons 5-20% chance to drop maelstrom set shard fragment)
-10 of these set shard fragments can be refined to set shards like raw crafting materials can be refined to materials in game atm.

This way RNG would still be present in game but very bad luck cases would much more unlikely to happen (e.g. running veteran maelstrom over 1000 times to not get inferno destro staff).

Well, except for grinding and farming there's not much to do in the game. (Once you've completed most of the quests and regular content, and explored all of Tamriel)

A few daily quests and pledges and trials to do over and over and over.... that's it.

Pretty much everything in ESO is designed towards grind, grind, grind.

    Wan't gold? Grind
    Wanna get XP? Grind
    Want materials? Grind
    Wanna improve your house? Grind
    Wanna improve your gear? Grind
Wanna be on highscore lists? Grind
Want to level up a new char? Grind
Need gold to buy something so you don't have to grind for it? Grind

ESO is a grindfest like no other, and more and more people are realizing it. It's not fun, it's repetitive, it's LAZY design by developers so they can focus on doing silly crown store and crate items. The world is completely dead after you done most stuff, and all you're left with is more grinding, same few dailies/dungeons/trials over and over.

I've been playing the same character since launch, because I don't want to make alts, I'm happy with the one I have, but I also go on very long ESO-breaks between DLC's and expansions because I don't enjoy grinding at all.... I do most stuff once, or a few times if I have to, that's it. Usually i sub ESO-Plus, a month or two, then I'm away until next big release.

@tunepunk Grinding is the basic of MMO, but at some extense, grinding can be fun. I actually really enjoy making new alt, it's like felling in love with ESO all over again. I have my own way of grinding gold for 1 hour a day for 50K gold, and I enjoy it.

Grinding isn't the point of this thread, but the horrible RNG base loot system. Sure there will be a time when you have had everything you need, then you look back at the time you've spent grinding and regret ever spent time for it. But for the time right now for me and a lot of players who has reached end game, we find ourselve regret, and frankly, horrified by the time we spent dealing with RNG god for gears.

@RIGHTEOUS_REPORT Update 14 was suppose to kill stamDK with the horrible nerf on Igneous Shield. And then came the forum outrage. It was 1 of the hottest topic on the forum and we brought that topic back everytime ZOS came out with a new patch note for PTS. Finally, when Morrowind did come out with update 14, we're blissed with the much less terrifying nerf on Ignesous Shield. That my friend, is not isanity.

@Make2k15 Yeah absolutely right, I was quite forgiving when came up with that idea.
But imo, I'd rather increase the required set gear to get a shard, rather than putting any RNG base mechanic in this system (since all that we want in a token system is to avoid RNG in the first place). Maybe 15 pieces of the same set rather than 5?
