Probably Stupid Questions

SeraphMirako
So, I've been playing this game like I have skyrim, which is "wander around, trip over an adventure, lather, rinse, repeat" I recently got wind of Hakeijo stones, which I need for master writs. Turns out those are in Imp City, not a problem, yes, I'm CP160 or higher, I can probably butt heads with all the rest, right?

Nope!

I die like a small dog whenever another player even looks at me funny, and I'm a bit confused by it, because the damage I deal to them is...well, embarrassing. I have about 32.8K Hp or so, and every hit a player lands on me seems to take close to 5-6k off of that total, whereas my hits tend to go for 1-2K.

Obviously my build and gear aren't suited to PVP at all, I expected that I'd run into SUPER prepared players who can deal "LOLSRSLY?!" amounts of damage, sure, but this is everyone I meet, so clearly the problem is me. Anyone feel up to explaining how it is you can pierce straight through other people's damage reduction while still having oodles of your own? I'd like to not die so embarrassingly.

Some things about my current setup:
I'm a Nightblade 2H Sword User, I use all heavy armor (I like how it looks) and I prefer the Siphoning tree because it keeps me fairly alive in PVM.
My Attributes are 14 Magicka, 30 Health, and 20 Stamina
Both of my swords are nirnhoned, and part of the death's wind set, (I have 3 pieces for the additional HP)
The rest of my armor is part of the Vampire's Kiss set (excellent for mobbing, not so much for PVP, I'm sure)
I have Soul Siphon as my ult on both bars, and predominantly use Dizzying Swing, Carve, Reverse Slice, Siphoning Strikes, Sap Essence, and Swallow Soul

I also have decent amounts of gold, and can respec. if it turns out I'm in dire need of doing so (I'm thinking it probably will)

And to all responders, thanks for your consideration and time!

Buy the hakeijo from guild traders for 10k to16k. Grinding out tel var stones cannot really be done alone. Not easily. Too many zerg groups. You get over run. If i do imperial city sewers it's late night. Like 4am. When few people are there.

I'm curious about your build, because it seems like you're aiming for a jack of all trades, master of none build. Like, if you've spent all points on stamina, those 2H abilities of yours would deal better damage, and if all was spent on Magicka, those siphoning abilities would've been better for healing. And with most points spent on Health and wearing heavy armor, you seem to be taking the tank way.

I'm no expert on Imperial City, but if you want to be more effective, try taking a role: DD, Tank, Healer.

I was actually leaning towards being some kinda Siphon-tank, except, I thought I should have good amounts of both resources in order to utilize my 2H skills and my siphoning, Should I instead focus on one and more-or-less neglect the other?

In order to PvP in this game you need to copy paste a PvP guide from youtube.

There is no play as you will for PvP and group PvE.

PvP is not action and reaction or guessing.

Its about copying stats, practice animation cancelling and copy a skill rotation.

Yet people still claim all is well and further more it's great.

    Take points:
    Animation Cancelling
    StamNB/MagikaNB pvp guide Eso.

Oh and once again for the 'aters

Defensive tactics Eso 1.1 Stamina (and magika..)

Go full sustain stats. Don't worry about dmg traits, stats, enchantments.
Slot medium armor skill and evade dmg passively like you play DOTA with Butterfly.
Roll dodge and spam Vigor(stack barriers and teleport if magika *) in order for your HP to be full 100%

    Offensive tactis Eso 1.1
Get a proc damage set gear set that deals passive (ACTIONLESS) damage.
Get good with 2handed Animation Cancelling.

Gz you play PvP like 95% of the players.

*if you are tank DK/NB magika don't confuse yourself. You are not a tank. You are immortal. Spam that drain at your 20 enemies and watch them die. (I though tank was tought to kill/slow to kill you sort of enemy)

Yes. Jack of all trades builds don't work on ESO, as if you split your resources, both your magicka and stamina skills would be extremely weak. If you're looking to build a siphon-tank, go magicka so that your siphoning skills will at least have some potency behind them. Drop the greatsword and equip a staff.

If you want to use the greatsword, go stamina and drop the magicka skills (aside from the buffs).
    Kiss the chaos.

I would also suggest you buy the runes if you are not interested in PvP otherwise. It's a completely different game compared to PvE, one that requires a lot of dedication to master, not only equipment-wise, but also requires a different skill set (both the skills your character uses, and the player's own skill).

Alternatively, you could also adopt a "don't care" attitude, and simply accept the inevitable PvP death as a strike of lightning you can do nothing about. Just maximize your mob killing potential, and consider the actual amount of tel-var stones you are carrying to be half of what your UI tells you(that way you won't feel you are losing any when you die). After every death, bank all stones except 100 (to get the 2x multiplier right away). I sometimes do this when i fancy playing one of my alts that aren't PvP-viable.

You are so far off the right track for performance in PvP that others in your shoes wouldn't know there is a road. You look to be articulate and self-aware: those two things alone tell me that you could learn to become great if you had a mind to, with proper guidance.

The basics folks will post in this thread. Once you have those down you'll want to ask an experienced peer about the next steps. If, of course, you have a mind to PvP. I'd write more helpful stuff, but it's 2AM and I'm falling asleep rn...
The generally amicable yet sporadically salty magplar that may or may not have 1vXed you in Sotha Sil. Who knows?

Thanks for all the responses I've gotten so far!
    Key takeaways seem to be:
    1)Holy *** you're doing it wrong.
2)splitting your build is a bad idea, pick stam or mag and stick to skills that use it.
3)everyone dies anyways, accept this, and be at peace with it
4)cookie-cutter builds are popular for a reason: they're effective
    5)YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG!!!!
6)Dude, you can seriously just buy those runestones.

I've learned a bit from all of these responses, but I have some followup questions:

For damage mitigation, which character stats should I be paying attention to? for instance, do I want to use traits that directly increase my armor, or should I focus on Physical/Spell resistance? what's the difference between the two?

I've decided to go StamBlade, I've seen a few builds out there and it looks unorthodox, but viable, and I appreciate quirkyness. What kind of Weapon Damage totals should I be after?

How important is Physical piercing, and does it do more-or-less what it says on the box, or is it more complicated than that?

Thanks in advance for your replies!

I don't plat stamNB so maybe others can answer.

another question: Someone pointed out that, having reworked my build substansially, my Uppercuts aren't performing as well as they could, not really sure what they meant, and they wouldn't clarify.

Uppercut's base damage right now is about 9.9K, on a critical, depending on wether or not empower and Major brutality are in effect, it does between 12 and 16K damage to enemies in craglorn.

I unfortunately don't have access to a dummy skeleton, but I'm assuming that's where I should draw raw numbers, yes?
