Where can I find a big list of all the stuff that the game never tells you

There really is no order to do things in; there is vet and non vet pvp, you can do dungeons as vet or non vet, and you can google what the weekend vendor is.

The newer dungeons tend to be harder than the older ones but are still doable

I just came back after a year and I'm having the same kind of thoughts like what to do first, and really its up to you.

I would just focus on one or two things at a time, otherwise it will take forever to get it all done, if that is what your going for.

And you can use the ESO wiki or the forums for any questions you have on the content

Yes I can google things as I hear about them, sure.

But the point I'm making is that I've been playing for nearly 6 months and until yesterday when someone mentioned the weekend vendor, I had no idea there was such a thing.

There could very well be dozens of things I don't know about this game and I'm wondering if someone has compiled a comprehensive list.

I'm CP 300ish and know just about everything about questing, but there is this whole elite side of the game I've barely gotten a glimpse into.

I think that it's a flaw for a game to be this impenetrable (relatively speaking).

That would be one huge list. Eso does not do a very good job at explaining. If it wasn't for various community members making videos/ Web sites then it would become a whole lot harder to learn anything about eso.

As other person said eso wiki is a great place. Also youtube is a decent place for info if you can find the good/ current videos.

Here. You can make a thread asking these questions, and (if you try really hard to not make the OP sound Trolly in any way, they're a trigger happy bunch..) the Vets of the game will give you answers and tips.

    1. The "best" order to do content would be chronological, as well as what Faction you chose. Take me as an example, I'm with the Pact. I would then begin to Quest through the Pact Alliance Zones, starting with Bleakrock Island, then Bal Foyen and on to Stonefalls etc. As I'm doing this, the game will give you quests for the Main Storyline with the Prophet. However, you can't finish the last quest objective of the main story until you've first completed the Coldharbour questline where you stop the Planemeld. You can also do the Mage's Guild and Fighter's Guild questlines during all this as well. Simplified, your Alliance Questline first, in combo with the Main Story and or the Guilds. Then when all that is said and done, you'll be given a Quest to experience the other Alliances.

    2. A "Weekend Vendor" is usually referencing the special Khajiit Merchant that can be found in Cyrodiil at one of your Faction's home bases, and she only appears there during the Weekends. She is where you can buy a random selection of Jewelry, Helms, and Shoulders from Monster Sets and other hard to come buy armor sets, all in Legender quality, either for in-game Gold, or PvP Alliance Points.

    3. The best way to survive in Cyrodiil while trying to PvE is to go into a Campaign that is completely empty. You can check that by look at the three bars under each Faction emblem which indicate how many players are in that Campaign. If all the bars are empty, then it's a 99% chance you won't run into another player in that Campaign. Still, just because the bars are empty, doesn't mean there aren't players there, and there's always the chance one or two will have the same idea you do, and could run into you at one of the PvE locations. When that happens, all bets are off. You could try to show yourself in a non-aggressive stance such as holding block and then sheathing your weapons (if they're out), but really you can't control how others act, and many of the common PvPlayers will just see you as an easy kill and wreck you "for the lulz".

    If only.

Everything is obvious once you already know it. Before that - why doesn't weapon damage make staff attacks better? Isn't a staff a weapon? Why does a trebuchet damage the front door, but on the side you have to be sure to hit the wall instead? Why did my damage go down when I leveled up? Why aren't my buffs stacking? Why didn't that ability fire?

^ I know the answers now, but first I had to flail around not even knowing I didn't know.

This game is full of "Why didn't you just tell me that!"

This reminds me of a sketch on Saturday Night Live around 1983 when Jim Belushi, Robin Duke and Tim Kazurinsky were on the show. It was a talk show sketch about where were you when JFK was assassinated 20 years before. The first guest had indicated that she had just recently found out about it. Then the next guest said that it was embarrassing but she had found out about it just before the show from the first guest backstage. Then at this point the 3rd guest played by Tim K started speaking up...."wha...what's this, what happened, did something happen to President Kennedy?"...it was a really funny sketch.

So, you've been playing for 6 months and heard about weekend vendor yesterday? I've played for about a year, and I'm just hearing about it now from you <g>

It just comes down to, sometimes you just don't know what you don't know. and I would definitely appreciate some type of repository of information as well...

Oh, here's one...I never read anywhere official, that you can shift-click on the +/- signs on the CP stars to jump up/down 10 points at a time...but then recently I saw someone on a youtube video. He didn't say it, and you can't see the keyboard, but when he was clicking, the numbers were jumping 10 up & down, so I tried it with shift-click and sure enuf, it worked...

I was referring more to non-quest content. Trials, Cyrodil PvE, VMA, etc.

Let's take my CP 320ish Magicka DK for example. She has done Cadwell Silver and Gold, and a decent amount of normal and a few vet dungeons, but very little in Craglorn, and almost nothing of Hew's Bane and the Gold Coast. She's currently doing Morrowind since that has novelty.

But I'm worried that I'm somehow nerfing her this way.

Let me bring in another point, which if you like we could use my newest toon as the example for.

I think she is Level 25, and she's gotten there without doing any quests, just grinding in 3 spots for a couple of hours at each, and maybe 4 dungeons with mostly lame pickup groups.

Even then, what I've found is that leveling mainly through grinding levels the skill lines way more than questing does, purely because you're doing nothing but combat. No solving mysteries or 'run over there and tell that guy something, and he'll tell you to run somewhere else and tell someone else something' time-wasting.

Having done Gold and Silver, I doubt I will really get into questing with my other toons as I'll be repeating, but is that good?

    Is any of this good?

I want to do things well and right so that I can be above the middle of the pack on dungeons and trials, and maybe even wet my whistle in PvP at some point. MAYBE.

There is so much to know and the game does a rotten job of it.

The #1 thing I learned this week that no one ever told me is that if you make a couple of decent crafted sets for a Lvl 10 character they will be so strong, even when Lvl 20 wearing the same gear, that they seem virtually unkillable.
there's always the chance one or two will have the same idea you do, and could run into you at one of the PvE locations. When that happens, all bets are off. You could try to show yourself in a non-aggressive stance such as holding block and then sheathing your weapons (if they're out), but really you can't control how others act, and many of the common PvPlayers will just see you as an easy kill and wreck you "for the lulz".

Thanks for this. I look forward to my own Blondie vs. Angel Eyes moment.

And I hope I'm not Angel Eyes...or Tucco!

Thanks to all who replied :)

TLDR: I guess I've gotten used to being one of the best in the few games that I've played in the past - GTA, Skyrim, Civ 5, etc. But it's REALLY hard discerning useful info from fluff and improving my play at ESO. It's nothing like Skyrim in terms of progression. To get amazing at Skyrim you just need to level Archery and Sneak all the way so you can one-shot Draugr Deathlords without them ever knowing about it. :D

I've always sort of learned things as I got around to them. When I saw something referenced in game, I asked what it was in zone. Usually someone will give you a straight answer.

If you are looking to get into end game content like vet trials... I can't even really suggest a straight forward way to do it. Just going in /zone and saying "LF vet trials guild to teach me everything I need to know" is probably not going to yield many positive hits.

I recommend looking up some builds for your class. Don't waste too much time fretting over how you'll get 3 moondancer gold jewelry from vMoL in order to gain the dps to do vMoL in the first place. I see a lot of people under the impression that the dropped gear is necessary to do good dps. On probably any magicka build, 5 piece julianos (crafted), and 3 piece Willpower + 2 piece monster set, will be good enough to pull the dps you should have for vet trials and vMA. Never use gear as an excuse for why you can't do hard content.

I guess I got into vet trials by literally pugging dungeons until I sort of figured out what I was doing. Make friends that way. Eventually, someone will invite you on normal trial runs (or you can pug one in zone lol), and you'll make new friends. Eventually you'll learn how to not be terrible at your role, and before you know it you'll be raiding 5 nights out of the week with some of the best players in the game.

PvP is sort of the same way. Let's be honest, you aren't a 1vX god, and VERY few people actually do that well, especially with this patch, so you will mostly likely want to find a guild for groups. Whatever faction you are playing for should have a starter pvp guild that will take more or less anyone who wants to learn out into Cyrodiil and show them the basics of group play. For PC/NA CP campaign, EP has Pact Militia, DC has Blood of Daggerfall, AD has (I think) Dominant Dominion? Really just ask in Cyrodiil zone between the ego stroking and the in fighting, and you'll probably get an invite to a starter guild without much issue.

As in real life, how far you get is really tied to how well you communicate with others, so talk to everyone you can. For instance: Did you just see someone solo a world boss with apparent ease? Whisper him and see if he'll help you out. Trust me, a few compliments and 90% of players will answer a barrage of reasonable questions.

    Huhu,
    and welcome.
Actually you are in the right place already, evenso it sometimes might be hard to see.

Concerning "the best order of quests" - idk how much you value a well writen narrative, but if you just look for XP and leveling through questing, collecting skyshards etc. I got good news: With the one tamriel patch the order of quests doesn't matter - XP scale to your level and all mobs do the same.
If however you care for a well written narrative, an unbroken stroyline and some depth (immersion) while questing, i got some rather not so good news: With the one tamriel patch the narrative got pretty much broken ... and up to now ESO doesn't even admit that this could be a problem, nor is there any sign that player based suggestions to allow for questing in line of the narrative are picked up and integrated (for further reading I would suggest you have a look at @GrumpyDuckling 's posts, beeing the latest approach in this direction). Beeing someone who isn't too happy about the current situation I would love you to take the time and write a feedback about how you experience the storytelling in ESO, maybe some new faces/voices reach the ears of the mods.

Concerning "week vendors" ... 2 of them are to be found in tamriel: the "golden one", selling monster set items and rare golden jewellery on weekend in cyrodiil and the "exclusive furnisher", selling exclusive furniture in coldhabour, again only on weekends and again only few items per week. Keep your eyes open on saturday mornings to catch the updated posts on which items are on sale this week in the forums (saves some legwork!).

Concerning "how to survive"... there are subforums here dedicated to combat mechanics in PVP and PVE, asking your race/class/choosen weapon question there will definatelly bring the theorycrafter of tamriel answer. In general I guess we can say that there isn't one best strategy. Due to inbalances and constant changes in the combat system/gear/game mechanics there are however "flavour of the month"-builds, but playing ESO for 3 years I would strongly encourage you to just try and find you own preferred playstile and then ask in forums for advice concerning optimization. Well, its just my personal view, but this way I feel changes are not always and everytime frustrating, plus knowing "your" build will almost always allow for adjustments, hence your chances are good to overcome obstacles.

    I hope this helps.
Good luck ... and see you on the battlefield!

Generally learning of such things comes through the community and guilds you play with.

To have a hard list of all the games features would be crazy. Your best bet is to just keep asking questions, keep reading/watching information, always read patch notes etc.

This is part of the experience of an online game, connecting with the community and learning from one another.

The whole point of RPG's is that you explore, discover, learn and progress.

Instead of being lazy why don't you do just that and when you come across something you don't understand Google it yourself.

Shame on you for being lazy and wanting your hand held !

Like most mmos, ask people about one thing at a time and you'll get the hang of it after a while. You also learn stuff from experience and playing the game.

There is elder scrolls online wiki that has all the data you need about the game, there are deltia and woeler for builds and advice for new players.

There is also Kevduit who is hilarious and also gives some good advice sometimes.

I think you have a point. There is alot that isnt explained by the game.

Your best bets are Google, youtube, twitch and having 5 guilds hopefully with some experienced and helpful members.
Other than that just playing the game and figuring it out for yourself.

I would say the forums is a good place for info but lets be honest its 87% nerf threads, threads about baby birds, people quitting or begging for gold. (This is a joke for people who dont understand internet sarcasm)
