Player Crafters?

If you give someone mats to craft gear for you, could they just run off with it? I've been meaning to ask someone to craft me a few sets of training gear, but I've been a bit apprehensive and hesitant about who to trust and who not to. Any recommended people/guilds?

It can happen, but mats are so cheap, apart from the tempers, it's negligible.

    Ahahahaha, awwwwwww <3

Don't worry, you're 99.9% safe :) Crafters are usually plus-minus high-lvl players, and we... honestly simply just don't need your <160CP mats :) Well... If you do want a 160CP training gear, which require tons of Ancestor Silk... Duh. Even then - hardly worth it.

So to answer your question - yes, in theory they can. But in practice - noone but complete and utter a**holes would bother :)

Best thing to do would be to join a guild and ask around if they have any crafters. There are several guilds that even advertise that they have 9-trait crafters in their ranks.

I usually open the trade window to be sure they have the mats.

Then I close it without trading and go make the thing.

Then I trade again and trade the thing for the mats I just used.

Unless I don't have the mats like with some enchanting requests. People have trusted me and given me 5 hakeijo and the others to make them Truly Superb Glyphs of Prismatic Defense and I make it for them and trade it back. No point in stealing someone's mats in my opinion. The bad mouthing and the bad karma isn't worth it. Plus, it's just a game, prospering in a game through deceitful means against another player is bad sportsmanship. Gentlemen know there are plenty of npcs to dupe, swindle, steal from and kill ;)

As Dantaria states, most people who offer to craft for others are pretty positive people and would be happy that you offered to provide mats.

As a crafter, I find it usually tends to be those that want stuff made that cause the problem. Either they aren't sure what they want, or want CP160 but don't have mats or gold to pay for mats or can't wait 10 minutes for you to finish what you might be doing and switch characters. We too play the game and are not always logged onto our crafters.

Anything below CP160 gear I don't even expect mats as I have more than enough. Happy to craft lower level gear and improve to blue for nothing, especially for friends or fellow guild members - even though some of them can still be very demanding. I had a 'friend' who only ever contacted me when he wanted something made and ended up giving my name out to his other friends. He is no longer on my friends list.

    Except nirnhoned research items. :p

But, yeah, basically. If you're talking about low level training gear... most of the time, nobody cares. The materials involved aren't that valuable. Now if you're asking for 160 gold gear... yeah, that you'd need to cough up the materials for. At the same time, that's also a transaction where, each item has a value somewhere around 40k (more for metal, less for wood). And, yes, people do get a bit touchy when that much gold is involved.

See? This is why I charge. Not, you know, a lot. But, if you want me to make something for you, it is going to cost some gold. I don't actually care about some stuff, and a lot of the time I won't actually follow through and demand gold, but I stick the price out there in front to keep people from doing exactly this.

You can ask someone to craft a gear for you. If you didn't trust him: give him mats for one item, he would craft it, give it to you, then you would give him another portion of mats, etc.

Never, just never give to unknow ppl valuable stuff for improvement it's rarity. Some weapons has a great cost - 400k and more, there will be a lot of guys, who would want to just steal it.

I have the same trouble, luckily I can craft myself so I don't ask others but i've never crafted for people because of this issue, trust but I'm talking about the high amount of gear not low level. I find it very uneasy handing over things to a stranger, I wouldn't do it unless I know them very well.

Me myself is an honest person and would never rip anyone off or run away with any items, even gold, if they gave me the gold tempers 8 of them I'd upgrade items and give it straight back but I know if I was in their position I would not do that at all. I'm sure the majority of players are genuine but I still wouldn't risk it.

People could do that I guess but nobody does. I never had any issues with crafters fooling me. You couldn't even gain much for maybe running the risk of being banned.

Crafters are great and valuable people. I don't play very often, when I do it's sub-50 PvP. I personally enjoy the environment there and like to make alts. I don't have time nor do I enjoy grinding dungeons in order to get gear, so I rely on using new crafted sets every 5-10 levels.

I make sure to plan out my character so that I know what armor sets I want. Usually the only thing, that I don't know is the style and that is because not all crafters have all of the styles and because I don't know all of the styles. Unfortunately, I usually can't provide the mats for my gear, so I usually offer to pay all of the gold that my character has, which is usually between 3000 and 6000.

Now I realize that that might seem cheap, but I don't ask for gold gear. I would be happy even if it was gray gear. Last time, I was surprised when the crafter gave me purple gear at lvl 20. I gave him a tip of 2000 that time.

All in all, crafters are great and should be highly respected.

Good rule to follow is never go with somebody who requires upfront payment for their time.

I'll craft anything I can make for people for free. If you want to open a second trade after I make the gear and give it to you and give me money so be it. People who ask for money up front are going to try to cheat you probably. Same goes IRL. Never pay a contractor up front for all the materials and work. They normally show up a couple days then vanish leaving you to pay a second person to do the work they left you with.

on the flip side iv been asked to craft an item for someone for an agreed price and cod it and it gets returned without a word. ask them why: oh, i dont need it anymore. found it cheaper.

    thanks for telling me a-hole.

Most cp160 can temper, they need it for bound gear anyway.
Also giving an green unbound shapened necropotente shock staff to an sorcerer is a bit dangerous. I'm so sorry I equipped it.

As for training gear most is happy to help, I just ask for jute in return as I'm short of it leather or iron is free
    And figure out an style.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Happens every now and then, but it's very rare nowadays.

When I began playing the game, I had some very good experiences. I asked about crafter once and found a said set on my mail a few minutes later, along with some gold (I wrote in zone that I can't pay much as I'm still saving for a horse :D ).

Another time I asked someone to craft me TBS. The crafter didn't say anything, so when s/he met me to deliver, I gave the mats and some gold in exchange. A few seconds later I've got a trade request and got all the mats and gold back... And a whisper "have fun".

Next time a crafter said s/he would craft me the set for free, so I gave some surplus mats as a tip (about twice as much as needed which with ancestor silk was quite substantial). A few minutes later I've got all the surplus back via mail.

Even quite recently, when I just started playing on PS4, I've got my lv16 pvp gear for free, people even made a quick fundraiser to collect the tempers to upgrade it for me (it was a small guild with great people I've just joined while trying to survive in BWB with my all around mostly non set white and green gear - now I'm 6-8 traits on everything there).

When people ask me to craft some below lv50 gear, I do it for free (I've got thousands of these mats). As for cp10-cp140 - I always ask for mats as I simply don't usually have enough (you usually collect them only once, as then your alts just jump from lv49 straight to whatever cp you have, which more often than not is muuuch more than 160). As for cp160 - it really depends on my mood and the person I'm crafting for, but I never take more than I use. I've got 9 traits on everything now on PC/EU (not much besides basic styles/motifs, though)
