Pelinal's Hypothetical (Stacking Major Sorcery and Major Brutality)

Let's say I run a build with:

5 pieces of Pelinal's Aptitude
(2 items) Adds 1064 Maximum Health
(3 items) Adds 129 Stamina Recovery
(4 items) Adds 129 Magicka Recovery
(5 items) Your Weapon Damage and Spell Damage both become the highest of the two values.

5 pieces of Rattlecage
(2 items) Adds 1064 Max Health
(3 items) Adds 129 Spell Damage
(4 items) Adds 129 Spell Damage
(5 items) Gain Major Sorcery at all times, increasing your Spell Damage by 20%.
(5 items) Adds 100 Spell Damage.

If I have Major Sorcerery boosting my spell damage by 20% (which means that my weapon damage should be getting 20% stronger) and cast a skill that then gives me Major Brutality for 20% more weapon damage, then am I effectively getting a damage boost from both Major Sorcery and Major Brutality?

Nope - Pelinal's only boosts your lowest stat to match the highest.

Edit: don't think of it like Pel is giving you +20% to both - the Pel math doesn't occur until after the total weapon/spell damage calculation is complete. Major Brutality is redundant and would be wasted.

I'm a bit slower than most when it comes to math, so I'm going to write this out to try to understand. If the Pelinal's math doesn't occur until after total weapon and spell calculation is complete, so then that means it never gets boosted by the second buff?

Example: Let's say these are my base numbers:
    Weapon - 20
    Spell - 100

    I then equip Rattlecage:
    Weapon - 20
    Spell - 120

    I then equip Pelinal's:
    Weapon - 120
    Spell - 120

Now, if I use Major Brutality, even though it is supposed to gain me 20% weapon damage, it won't apply and these will still be my final numbers?
    Weapon - 120
    Spell - 120

Final numbers will still be 120/120. I tested it a while ago with.

The character sheet number is the total weapon/spell damage, but Major buffs only the "raw" (no % increases). So it takes raw 20, makes it 24. But this is still lower than 120 so the total will stay 120

Correct, Pelinal can screw you over if you don't do it right. Like say your spell damage is higher than weapon damage let's say 2k vs 1.5k you have Pelinal on making your weapon damage 2k, you activate major brutality, your weapon DMG stays 2k

No because your real wpn damage is only 20, so boosting with Major Brutality would net you 24. Ergo that extra 4 weapon damage would be totally buried by the Pelinal bonus.

Also it is incredibly unlikely that your wpn/sp damage values would be close enough for one buff to flip it. Pelinal only works well if you stack completely into one type as much as possible.

To add to that, it's easier to stack weapon damage than spell damage. Just as a hint.
