War maiden gets affected by major sorcery, stop spreading Wrong Informations.

    @op
Your moondancer swords are Bis already. The Regen comes in Handy for sustain, and the damage is still good, so i dont know Why people tell you to use willpower instead.

The only thing i dont like is your moondancer staff, id swap it with maelstrom.

For julianos vs war maiden: it depends on how much elemental damage you do. Looking at the spell damage julianos is 25% less, so if you deal more than 25% elemental damage you lose dps with war maiden.
To know how much elemental dps you do, you have to look at your combat parses. Nobody can tell you how your Personal parses are, you have to find that out yourself.

Ok, can someone help answer this for me?

I feel that I am a solid dps magplar already. However, what damage skills are considered elemental vs magic? The damage skills I run on my magplar are jabs, shards, Jesus beam, wall of elements. I would assume woe is elemental... but the other skills say fire in the description but I'm told that they aren't? Just want to know if it's worth the time and gold to pick up a war maiden set.

The tooltips will say what type of damage they do. For example the tootlip for Jabs will say it does "1000 magic damage" for each jab, WoE will say it does "2000 fire damage" (assuming flame staff equipped) each tick.

Elemental damage is fire, lightning and ice. Magic damage is it's own type, not to be confused with magicka based skill which only tells you which resource is used to cast the skill (magicka as opposed to stamina).

That "almost 40k self buffed" was somewhere in between 38,5-39k, or so but I had 5pc Moondancer and I was given sustain support. Around 37k-ish is the best I've managed with ranged build solo buffed. But unfortunately I do not have recorded these parses and don't have any screenshots of them.

For example this one parse I have Dark flare (22,5%), Burning light (7,2%), Blazing spear pulse (5,6%) and Blazing spear (2,8%) which makes a total of 38,1% of my DPS - and there's still Purifying light's initial hit which was usually around 2,0% on these parses. So ~40,0%, give or take 0,2%.

On melee build I have Puncturing sweeps (21,5%), Burning light (8,2%), Blazing spear pulse (6,5%), Blazing spear (3,6%) and Purifying light's initial hit (2,4%), so ~42,0%.

But you are right about the meta rotations and so on. I don't follow others when I make builds. Of course I look what others are doing but I don't directly copy from anyone. So it might be better for others to use Julianos instead of War maiden. But on my builds, rotations, etc. I find War maiden more useful. I provided the calculations on a post above which are rough estimates. If you're interested I could try to get a "real" parses where I have a Thief mundus, spell damage potions, ... and so on to get more accurate answer. But I don't really see how it would change because all those affect each and every skill basically the same way - except for light attacks but for melee builds it's not a big difference because you're probably using dual wield.

    I would pick Julianos because:
    1. Easy to get
    2. Can choose your own Motif style!!!!!!!!!
    3. performs about as good maybe max 1-3% difference from both, its literally impossible to tell.

The only reason I would pick warmaiden over Julianos is:
    1. Execute Phases in trials are the most difficult part of fights, and thats where the set will shine because of Radiant Oppression aka Jesus Beam you will get way more damage out there. (Well atm I call it Noodle Beam because thanks to ZOS its buggy af ><)
    2. Its something new

@Lum1on thanks for the nice post comparing those two, really insightful

You're right about the fact that Julianos is way more easier to get. And I personally feel like it gives you more for shorter fights because the execute phase does not play sucha huge role. But for trials I'd go for War maiden if you have one.

Still, like mentioned many times before you can't go wrong no matter which one you choose.

First of all, I know this doesn't cover it all and is not as simple. But I think you can get an idea what I'm looking for with this.

Here's a spreadsheet of your average damage with each individual skill when you're wearing either Julianos or War maiden. Of course it depends what gear you use, but this is pretty standard, easy-to-get gear:
    • 5 x Julianos or War maiden
    • 2 x Grothdarr
    • 3 x Moondancer (jewelry)
    • 2 x Dual wield (Willpower, swords)
CP allocation is not fully optimized, it's just there to play around with.

Magicka might be a slightly off; I used Asayre's formula to calculate your stats with the listed gear (High elf, 6,0% Undaunted mettle, 2*2,0% Magicka controller and 5,0% Inner light) but it's close enough.

Original tooltip values were calculated using UESP's log data for skill coefficients and the value you see is actually affected by "BUFFS" listed above. Also the average damage is taking your crit. chance and multiplier into account.

    9388d1c144346a90fa22da472821df6b.png
"Radiant oppression" is highlighted with a red color because it's a tricky one because of how the damage changes depending on target's current health.

No, I do not have Burning light listed because it's not so straightforward because of the proc chance. But if you're interested in it here's a quick note about it:
Tooltip for Julianos (with buffs): 8 334
Tooltip for War maiden (with buffs): 8 511

Average proc times in about 9 seconds (with this rotation and setup): 5

    Total damage (Julianos): 41 670
Total damage (War maiden): 42 555

So what can we learn from this?

Well, this isn't optimal because every situation might be a little different, but the ideal thing on this example; you cast
    1. Blazing spear (back bar)
    2. Elemental blockade
    3. Reflective light (front bar)
    4. Purifying light
    5. three times Puncturing sweeps

Light attacks in between each skill and we do not care about Purifying light's proc damage after 6 seconds. Also, we assume every damage-over-time lasts for its full duration. So we get (in about 9 seconds):
    Total damage: 162 739 (Julianos)
Total damage: 161 517 (War maiden)

That means Julianos is less than 1,0% better than War maiden - In this specific scenario (gear, skills, rotation, ...)

Of course things change when you get to the execute phase - around ~30,0% and below. The less the target has health, the more damage you do with Radiant oppression (magic damage) so War maiden gives you more value than Julianos here. But it's really hard to calculate in the end, but I provided you the spreadsheet so if you're really interested you have the values here so you can test by yourself.
    Radiant oppression:

If the target has 20,0% (H.LEFT) health and you have 70,0% (M.LEFT) magicka left here's the formula:
    ( TOOLTIP + MAX.MAGICKA * M.LEFT * 0,2 ) * ( 1 + ( 330 - 330 / 50 * H.LEFT ) / 100 )

    ( 28 020 + 45 218 * 0,7 * 0,2 ) * ( 1 + ( 330 - 330 / 50 * 0,2 ) / 100 ) = ~34 804

Have fun, and I hope this helped!

Summary; I'd say for trials War maiden is slightly better - if using the gear and skills listed above - because of how long the execute phase lasts for Templars (starts at about 30,0%-ish).

For pledge groups Julianos will perform better because bosses do not have as high health pool so you can't really take a real advantage of your best skill, Radiant oppression.

What about solo players? Definitely Julianos because it gives you more crit. for your healing and self heals are better as well because Julianos increases your overall spell damage.

However, since Julianos is a lot easier to get (crafted set) and you don't have to worry about your monster set's armor type so much I still recommend getting Julianos most of the time. You can't go wrong with Julianos if you're playing Templar.

I hope I covered it all and didn't leave too much out of this. Getting kinda tired here so if there's something you don't understand just let me know and I'll clarify it more.

As far as I can tell, War Maiden is only useful to construct an incredibly trolly soul assault build.

I still want you to understand that this is not an absolute truth and it may (and will) vary on a lot of different factors. But it's a guideline how I've approached this and I'm happy with the results because it works for me.
