Morrowind main storyline question (SPOILERS)

So I've had a question nagging at me the entire time I've been doing Vvardenfell's storyline and I'd like to discuss it here. I don't really want to do the whole topic in spoiler tags so if you haven't done Morrowind main storyline yet and do not want to know what it's about, please don't read further ;)

So the main storyline revolves around Vivec losing his divine powers, which is mainly an issue because Baar Du(or whatever it's called x_x), the moonlet above Vivec city, will fall if Vivec doesn't have enough power to hold it there anymore. Now my first question was, and still stays...why the heck doesn't Vivec simply put the moonlet down?

I tried to talk to npcs/read lorebooks and seems it was originally good old Uncle Sheo who threw the moonlet at Vivec city but Vivec stopped it with his powers and now it's hanging there to show off his divine powahz to all the dunmer and even non dunmer. That's all great but it really doesn't explain why he can't just, you know...put it down. Gently. Surely it can't be harder than holding it up there for centuries. Besides, afaik(I haven't played TES 3 myself) in TES 3:Morrowind the moonlet DOES finally fall, nearly wiping out poor dunmer...I mean, c'mon, why'd you even want a giant rock floating above your head? Whether by accident or vile magic or whatever, it's pretty obvious that it might fall one day. Yet even after the main story line here, during which it nearly fell, it does not even cross Vivec's mind to lower it down. Only viable explanation I can think of in the end is simply that doing so would show his people he's not op after all so he'd rather risk the lives of his people than endanger his "op living god" status.

Am I missing something there?

Well, I'd guess that, for some reason, he simply can't. But besides that I want to point out that, even if he could do that, Vivec lose of power, and eventual death, also means the fallout of the sociaty Morrowind is currently based upon, and not only the (albeit tragical) destruccion of VIvec city and Vvardenfell.

To me the most arrogant thing is that Vivec actually encouraged his followers to build their capital city right under it. Now THAT'S cocky!

I was under impression Sheo threw Baar Du at Vivec city?*confused* Though I guess the city is still under construction...I'm not sure on timelines there.

That is what I thought too. It explains why you wouldn't throw it back either. Only disaster would come from playing catch with Sheogorath!

Vivec wont destroy or move Baar Dau because he is playing his godly games.
Baar Dau was a large moonlet sent to destroy Vivec City by the Daedric Prince, Sheogorath.[2] When Vivec saw Baar Dau falling from the sky, he merely lifted his hand and it froze above the city. Instead of destroying the meteor, Vivec decided to keep it above his city so that if the people of Vivec ever stopped loving him, the meteor would descend on them and destroy them all.[3]

    Sermon 33:
When Nerevar returned, he saw the frozen comet above his lord's city. He asked whether or not Vivec wanted it removed.

'I would have done so myself if I wanted, silly Hortator. I shall keep it there with its last intention intact, so that if the love of the people of this city for me ever disappear, so shall the power that holds back their destruction.'

WOW, and here I almost thought he's kinda okay after that questline...

Thanks for this, answers my question. Guess it's just as I suspected and even worse :/
