Why do very old mmorpg's have a better wardrobe system than ESO?

The dye system is cool but it sucks all the crafting motifs I learned are useless since I wear gear from dungeons.
Are they ever going to introduce transmogrification like WoW?

I mean, we already have the mimic stones for styles. Just require a mimic stone as an ingredient for transmogging. Boom, profit.

Considering you can't use the existing system for Imperial or the new Morrowind style on most items, transmog doesn't seem a likely solution.

Also those systems were added to games...usually after 3 to 5 years once major issues were resolved and a lot of content was released.

Zos stated this past year they were not interested offering restyling at this time.

Considering Zos went a lazy route of one piece costumes the restyling would compete with crown store costumes. I expect this is their reasoning internally.

DCUO had a sick transmog system. They split the looks into sets and u could mix and match any look u wanted as long as u had equiped that piece one time. There were tons of combos

They should introduce something like SWTOR´s costume slots (Outfit designer it is called:http://dulfy.net/2015/03/20/swtor-outfit-designer-guide/). Hands-down the best system I ever saw in any MMO.
Up to 16 (?) complete sets of clothing on top of the stat-relevant gear.
And with so many slots to fill I´m sure this wouldn´t hurt the costume-sales at all!

By my calculations ESO has a number of years before they need to beat "other" games and introduce transmog. Also, I really prefer they fix the litany of bugs and problems with the group finder/bg queue prior to spending resources on cosmetic improvements. I like to actually play the game.

The first vehicle with a combustion engine was created in 1808.
The first patent for airbags was submitted in 1951.

If Zos wants to add some real value to Homestead, they should introduce transmog system tied with some newly designed crafting station and NPCs we would have to hire as permanent residents in homes large enough to house us all. Weapon smith would be able to transmog and dye our weapons and staves, armorer could be one to help us transmog our armors, and I am pretty sure there could be a farming system beyond that, so we would be forced into grinding some unique stuff needed for the process. Also, these NPC's could have separate style base from our chars, so we would farm motifs for them as well. Would be kinda interesting, and transmog items would be bound to us anyways, so no exploiting the system would happen at any time. And for ppl who want to instant hire these specialized crafters, Zos would make them avaliable in crown store for sure, just as we have banker and merchant there atm. So, its win win situation. We get to look as we please, and Zos gets to earn ton of cash for almost zero effort.

    ...one can hope so!

And the best idea I found so far on that account is the "transformation stone" concept here: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/340849/two-ideas-how-to-introduce-any-gear-in-any-style-functionality-into-eso-transmog/p1
...allowing master crafters to buy the ability to craft magical "transformation stones" for every motiv they know, thus raising the value of crafting And crown store bought motivs (see ZOS? there is -profit- to be made with this idea!), which then can be used by anyone to change a piece of gear to the style they are crafted for (so we'd have breton stones, dunmer stones, dwemer stones, etc.), and might be traded in every guild store...
...possibly also requiring a rare to farm base resource to craft said stone (something like nirncrux or perfect roe rare), which them also could be sold in the crown store for those with more money then patience (see ZOS? There's a second chance to make more profit here!)...

Actually I always disliked the "vanity tab" options, since it allows people to enjoy heavy armor protection yet use dancers silks visuals, and that just rubs my RPG sense as wrong...

Personally I'd prefer it if even costumes were divided into "combat costumes" with armor visuals, and "non combat costumes" like all those dresses and such that unequipped like a disguise during combat...
...well, or that wearing a costume reduced your armor to the visuals of said costume. So, no matter what you actually wore, in "dancers silks" costume you'd have no armor whatsoever, and in "wizard robe" costume only your light armor would be counted, and in "thieves leather" costume your medoium armor, and only in "knight armor" costume you'd get heavy armor protection as well...

Not unless they find a way to make a profit off of it.

They could make money from it if they followed LotRO example. In LotRO you have appearance tabs that let you "copy" the appearance of any item for all your equipment slots (head, chest etc...).

You start off with one tab, but can purchase many more allowing you to quickly change your entire look without changing your actual gear.

Once you "copied" the item into your appearance slot you can even delete it from your inventory if you want, with the warning that once deleted from your inventory you will no longer be able to copy it again and if you overwrite that appearance slot with something else that look is gone for good unless you physically make another.

Zos stated this past year they were not interested offering restyling at this time.

Considering Zos went a lazy route of one piece costumes the restyling would compete with crown store costumes. I expect this is their reasoning internally.

It also cost them money as well though. For example I think most the costumes are not very nice so I don't buy them. But several of the motifs have caught my eye. I would buy them. But they are virtually useless to me. So that is a no go. The motifs also usually cost more then the costumes. But again I have no reason to buy them.

I actually think they just don't want to spend the time and money to redesign the system. It obviously can't do it now, since you can't restyle most found sets. I think the cost/time to make this happen they just see as to large.

After your comment, i don't think you should be telling anyone to grow up. Seriously.

I agree about the wardrobe system. I don't understand the point of all these motifs we keep getting when they really only matter for crafted gear. There are such awesome styles in this game and we could have tons of combinations with an actual cosmetic system. Let us look unique instead of everyone running around in the same BIS slot sets and/or costumes. The one piece footie pajama costumes really don't cut it. I can guarantee you they would have squeezed a ton of crowns out of me for all the motifs, if there was a proper wardrobe system akin to Rift, Lotro, GW 2 or even just a transmog. As it stands now, I've lost all desire to buy or farm any motifs.

It does mean that until it's relevant it's not being developed or worked on.
While I like the different artwork styles I'd much rather they use what exists first in terms of opening up the materials for style and removing the tiered mat restriction however this is tied to other systems.

So the transmog idea while it sounds cool, it's tied to an existing tiered motif system that's also aligned under crafting.

I personally would be extremely upset if artwork became monetized and not aligned where it belongs. Changing drop items even tho they aren't crafted, they are still aligned under a motif, therefore changing artwork, in my opinion, should be a crafting requirement.

It also adds meaningful progression to all those crafters who researched the traits and use the passive skill point assignments.

This, mimic stones or something like it is needed for transmorg. The transmorged item is bound same as dyed ones.
You can use the transmorg item as an template for another piece of gear but this will destroy it and you need another mimic stone.
