What is the "ratio" that this is normally at?
Is a big base-damage preferred with an okay crit chance? Or a 50-60% crit with okay damage?
I find it difficult to balance all of this with maximizing my main stat...
If it helps, I'm a mag sorc really debating between mother's sorrow and warmaiden's sets.

if u can,netch's touch (Carkshade Cavern,in solo too ) + julianos (craftable) and gain good output in spell damage.

Staff abilities except resto are all elemental and not considered "magic" just fyi1 -
Lum1on✭✭✭You said you are a Sorcerer so there are few things to remember when making your build:- Most skills scale from your spell damage and max. magicka (ratio about 10)
- Pets, however, scale only from max. magicka
- Staff light and heavy attacks scale from both as well, but favoring spell damage (ratio about 40)
Of course there are and always will be meta builds which have certain ratio between max. magicka, spell damage and crit. chance. But if you want to be a different kind of a fish in an ocean you need to know what benefits you the most.
Also, remember that magicka based skills is NOT the same than skills that deal magic damage.
Magicka based skills:- Elemental damage (fire, lightning, frost) - for example, all skills from Destruction staff skill tree, Liquid lightning, etc.
- Magic damage - Crystal fargments, Daedric prey, etc.
War maiden does not buff your skills that deal elemental damage. And usually (and I'd like to highlight the word usually, because not everybody want to use meta builds and they are looking for something different which they enjoy) Sorcerers deal a lot of elemental (lightning) damage instead of magic damage, so you might want to reconsider using War maiden.
