Probably the same reason gear and non-gear items take up space instead of being weighted differently.

The developers are listening, you can spot a few devs from the dev team posting in alot of various housing complaint/ feedback threads. But whether or not they'll change things in response to that feedback is a different story.

The development team is more focused on stuff outside of the cash shop, which is pretty evident when you take a gander over on the Earthtear Cavern Changes thread. Where they've added more rocks instead of removing a few invisible walls that prevented them from building in areas which would seem neat to place stuff on. The pricing for items in the cash shop is another big indicator too, in my opinion. As there is quite a decent amount of stuff on the cash shop which isn't DLC that actually costs more than a DLC in the cash shop.

I personally would like there to be no limits on what you can place in your home. Just how much can you fit in there. But I doubt that they'll do that, because that'll be abit much for the servers to handle.
