For the new CP perk, what exactly does "Direct Damage" encompass?

As long as the skill that applied the dot is not an AoE, such as wall of elements then yes I believe so.

Everything that hits immediately. Initial ticks of dots are also counted as direct damage, only the ones that follow up are not. You can test everything by using scathing mage. It doesn't have anything to do with aoe. The initial hit of damage over time effects and spammable skills (may it be aoe like deep fissure or single target like the cliffracer) are counted as direct damage.

The most prominent exception is twisting path, an aoe damage over time ability where all ticks count as direct damage AND dot at the same time.

Direct Damage is instantaneous damage, it does not factor over time.

Usually physical damage is direct damage while any damage which has a lingering effect like bleeding, burning, etc. is DOT

DOT (damage over time) is any damage which affects target with "x" amount of damage over "y" seconds.

So all damage that is "not DOT" is direct damage.

PS: AOE that is area of effect damage could be either direct damage or DOT or both.

so,spells that do direct damage,for example, are:

crystal fragment
force pulse
crushing shock

or i am wrong?

Flare doesn't seem to be working with it
