Create an Audio Setting that disables Combat Music

I think this game has a wonderful soundtrack. But for the majority of these last couple years I've played the game with Music disabled entirely. However yesterday when I jumped into Vvardenfell for the first time, I enabled the Music again, to hear what kind of new soundtrack the Devs had created for the zone. And I loved it. It sounds MUCH more like the common Elder Scrolls everyone fell in love with, and the first time I walked into a Mine outside Balmora, I almost got chills. I felt like I was back in Skyrim again, the ambient music was incredible with setting the mood.

But before I logged off for the night, I turned the Music back off. Because every other second when I'd run into a hostile mob, those damn drums would interrupt the mood.

If there was just one little extra options setting under Audio that turned off Combat Music, so the ambient travel music played constantly, I would NEVER turn Music off again.

I get it but no....the whole point of the music is to set the mood.

Maybe you just don't like the combat music track and want different ones to choose from.

That would be a great option! Barely noticed the combat music in the first year or so of the game but now it grates on my nerves ...

Yeah I agree with that statement. But it's the Combat Music specifically that's ruining the mood everything else sets. When you're not fighting a boss, that one mob goes down in two seconds, and because of how dense hostile mobs are placed, every other second your music is being interrupted by drums that last just two seconds. It's irritating.

This was mentioned in another thread last week, and the sound guy did say that he would discuss it with devs to see if it could be done.

I get that too And don't disagree but wanted to point out. You just don't like the combat music and would prefer other options.

oh,@archmikem, if ever want a quieter place to RP a bit more and just generally enjoy the environment, consider coming to the XBox EU server. Outside of peak times, its seriously dead. You can quest quite alone for a lot of the time.

And for the first time tonight, the 30 day CP campaign (Vivec) failed to reach pop lock on all alliances. Its like everyone on the EU server has quite simply quit battlefield PvP, and gone over to BG's only. The other three campaigns have ever reached any kind of population.

Thanks for the suggestion? But that's not related to my OP in the least. I don't try to Roleplay, I just don't like the Combat Music that starts every single time you're in combat with a mob in PvE.

100% agree, OP. The worst is the Dolmens! So grating! I use youtube now when playing, only because of the combat music. Oblivion and Skyrim were the same.

A simple toggle (already have one for Music in general) is all that we need here.

I can't agree with the OP enough. Also, anyone insisting that the OP just wants alternate combat music can please just get lost. Combat music doesn't appeal to everyone. One of my favorite aspects of WoW is that there is no combat music. I find that the combat music causes me to just turn music off, which sucks because a lot of the scores are great. But that combat music -especially the drums- is just incessantly unpleasant.

You don't have to go that far, it's fine. Honestly if the Devs found someway to make a Combat track that blended into the Ambient Music without cutting it off, and wasn't as striking I wouldn't mind it. But that would be much more work than just simply giving us a toggle to turn it off.

Read this and then scroll up.

    1. Combat music isn't a genre
    2. You literally don't like the combat music so if you could choose other music you'd be fine.

Choosing other music doesn't have to mean another combat song. It literally means being able to choose other music so when that other music plays isn't limited to combat.
