OMG PVP (a little love for the devs)

I'm not much of a PvP gamer in general, and when I started playing ESO, I was always like, "Well, Cyrodiil... there's something I'll never do ever." "People scare me." "WHY AM I PLAYING AN MMO??? THEY'RE ALL GONNA LAUGH AT ME!!" "WHY DOESN'T PLAYER.ADDITEM WORK???"

So I jumped into PvP after a while, and would kinda just sneak around and watch battles from a safe distance. Or do quests and stuff in Cyrodiil and try not to encounter other people. It was terrifying, but somehow enticing. I eventually learned how to read the map, go where action was, follow along with groups, and die repeatedly without rage-quitting (this is KEY lol). Still had no idea what I was doing, but was learning bit by bit. It took a while, but after time and patience and pointers from others, I got to the point where I have zero fear of getting into PvP.

Cyrodiil, Imperial City, and Battlegrounds are all aspects of the game that I would have never even considered trying to get into. They just had never appealed to me, until I actually did it, and found that it was fun and rewarding, no matter how terrible I was at it.

The point is, for all the hate that the devs have been getting over broken or imbalanced or frustrating aspects of the game, it's still one of my favorite gaming experiences. And for PvP to pull me in someone like me, they must be doing something right.

Anyone else have similar experience with PvP? I know I can't be the only one.

I had a lot of fun in PVP when the game released (Xbox) because most of us didn't know what we were doing and it was just fun. But now most players know that it's important to get into big groups in Cyrodiil, and Xbox has mostly just become a numbers game.

Then both parts have the same gear any war is an number game, this makes ESO very realistic.

Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

I disagree with the statement that "any war is [a] numbers game." Certainly, numbers can be advantageous. But there is also this important component to war, when numbers are involved, called "friendly fire," which does not exist in ESO.

Same. I love it, much to my surprise. The problem is, it's hard to actually find any PVP now. BGs are extremely difficult to get into. The last fight I was able to find in Imperial City was a loner going to a craft station to do a writ, who insta-rezzed when I killed him and did a little bow before going on his merry way. Cyrodiil is hit or miss right now (I've had some great fights recently, even a few nice 1vX experiences, but also some terrible megazerg blobs in which it felt like I wasn't contributing at all). I'm hoping it gets better after the new expansion settles down and people go back to their old habits.

You can still have fun in pvp with small numbers. People pvp wrong in this game I swear it's like they forgot that the whole satisfaction comes from killing another player. I avoid the numbers game and I've had my best moments in this game in the middle of nowhere in Cyrodiil.

I play solo 99% of the time and still love/have fun with pvp.

As someone whose been PVPing in many games for over 20 years... I don't agree with the second part.

Getting new people, or less experienced people into PVP is great for long time PVPers too. It keeps the pvp game alive. Offers fresh faces and new people to interact with (friendly or kill)

Yeah, ease of entry is easier. This is good.

I absolutely used to have a lot of fun with small scale PVP, specifically at towns in Cyrodiil. I'd play a game where I'd protect the low level players who were there to quest from max CP enemies. It was great fun until flags were put into the game and became target respawn points for zergs. It's a sinking feeling when you see 30+ enemies overrun an area that used to be fun for small scale.

I originally came to ESO (first MMO & ES experience) because I was drawn to the lore, music, and art. I figured it would be the PvE that would hold my interest long-term, as I already have other PvP games I enjoy (LoL & Overwatch). As it turned out, I actually enjoy the PvP in this game more than the PvE...now I even enjoy it more than LoL or Overwatch. I definitely think ESO PvP is a hidden gem that still has a lot of potential. The Battlegrounds was a great addition, and I trust the bugs to be worked out of it eventually (until then I favor LoL & Overwatch for arena battles).

However there is always room for improvement, so below are a couple of things I think ZOS could do better with ESO PvP:
    1. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE ZOS...make it so we can play the content we enjoy the most & be able to reap good rewards from it. Such a big issue that has long plagued those of us that really like PvP...we're coerced into content we don't really enjoy (e.g. dungeon grinding) to equip ourselves for battle in PvP. Stop starving us ZOS...make it rain that sweet AP & XP in PvP so we can easily level there (instead of Skyreach) & gain some good loot we can use or sell to make some gold (those tempering alloys for our weapons ain't cheap ya know...it takes like 40 Reward of the Worthy emails to get enough gold for one tempering alloy on PC NA).
    2. ZOS should balance PvP and PvE separately. Yeah I know they're trying to avoid that (although they have made exceptions). I think separating PvP and PvE environments becomes especially important when one side calls for nerfs that could significantly affect gameplay for the other side. From what I've seen on these forums usually the requests for nerfs originate mostly from the PvP side (I say this as someone that mostly plays PvP these days). Nerfs and changes that might be justified and healthy for the PvP side of ESO could seriously derail builds and play-styles that PvE'rs have invested hundreds of hours into...which I don't think is good or healthy for the game (unless it's a fix to game breaking bugs or something similar, but arbitrary power nerfs don't count IMO).
