Whats the point of Motifs anymore?

Whats the point in collecting motifs anymore?

As a Master Crafter I use to want every motif in the game.
I don't thnk that way anymore.
T1 came out and even before found sets made crafted set pointless.
I will never get to wear any more crafted gear as farming sets w/ a jewelry option is much better.
Now that costumes are the way people hide ugly farmed sets why have these great looking motifs that will never be seen?
Sure you can always craft for a friend who has started a new toon.
You can even start a new toon yourself but, if you already have 8/ or 12/12 then whats the point?
Motifs take time to farm and some style stones are hard to come by.
In selling said motif type crafted sets you will never see a return for your time/money spent.
So you just lose out in every way.

Now some people are competitionist.
They are like OCD people in almost every way.
I understand that part and it's the only part I understand for add more and more 99% useless trinkets to the game.

Better chance at Master writs sure but what do you even need from this.
Not sure about your house but mine is sitting at 700/700 with very minimal crafted furniture.
No more room for anything new even though there is plenty of space that can be decorated.

I am not at all OCD, but motifs are a goal just like fishing.

I view master writs as just another achievement to get. Housing is also more achievements to get. Same for battlegrounds. I am a bit more into Cyrodiil beyond just getting achievements an leveling, but not much beyond that. Almost everything beyond revealing the narrative is kinda busy work and filler to me.

I also really don't care what my gear looks like, apart from when I dyed my gear Mets colors when they were in the world series.

I think we should be allowed to change the appearance of an item if we have that style/type learned (think imperials and imperial armor). It would also be nice if 9 trait craftable gear was better than overland and dungeon drops and only second to trial gear. If you think about it, it takes 6+ months to master all traits. That should be worth more than a pat on the back and a good job.

As a master crafter myself I would love to be able to change dropped gear to a different style. My toons that I level always look the best, then goes to poop when I have to put on dropped gear.

It appears though that ZOS's answer to this problem is costumes and polymorphs. This will never be as customize-able as making your own armor to the style you want. I hope we get this ability to use the styles we know to change gear if you are a 9 trait crafter.

I'm wearing Julianos and likely keep wearing it because it's the best crafted set for my build. I refuse to wear dropped, and I store them in my bank waiting for the transmog system to be one day added.

Appearance matters, and I find none of the costumes appealing. And if ZOS think the costume and polymorph system can replace a true transmog system, then they have no idea what customization means to players, at all.

I mean, when I go shopping I don't just buy what the model is wearing. What's the point in that? I was already born in premade skin.

A master crafter that knows every motif in game should be able to remodel any piececof armor. There are many popular MMOs where you can just change the style for almost nothing.

You know how far set back if they stoped making motifs whenever they do, do a transmog system. No reason for them to stop. They add tidbits of lore and is a huge part of what eso is.

People would still buy costumes. Because they're easy. Because they're unique compared to crafted armor. Transmog needs to happen. Like, in 2017!

Crafted sets are only good for those who like to look they way they want. So far that is the consensuses.
So motifs as someone pointed out are just a hunter gatherer mindset.
And one OCD denier has said he is the Pokemon champion as he wants them all just to have.

Achievements are worthless apart from furnishings that are bound to some of them.
There is no achievement goal in this game.
You get nothing in return from them other than the stated furnishings and those are far and few.

Why does Zeni keep spending time on making these when they could be spending more time on fixing current problems in game and building new DLC for us?

Edit* I forgot to mention colors and titles for achievements as well. But we are talking about motifs here.

My problem is they made every damn new crafting style since Dwemer (Soulshriven excluded) divided up into pages. Some even fragments of pages (glass). Now that's there's 60 or so crafting styles I really don't give a toot about learning them all. Too gimmicky.

They really do need a transmog dont get me wrong but there isnt no reason they would stop doing it since it prob doesnt take much to do at all in the process. The actual asset creating prob takes more time than just coding them onto the pages and writing a flavor tex. Again if they stop now and actually do a style change system they would have to backtrack hard . So much easier to just keep doing what they do.

I know for a fact that I was getting much more high value master crafting writs (157 and 91) when I was short well over 100 motif's, once I collected I have gone weeks w/o getting any writs period, and the highest I received was about 8. ZEN, you lie, lie and mo lie. It's either all random or in reverse of what you said. go have another beer on use and enjoy your money from the gambling crates

My experience is the same, when master writs came out my main crafter was regularly getting 70-80 token writs, in the last month or so they have mostly been 2 token writs with the most tokens I got being 15. I honestly believe ZOS have either stealth nerfed writ tokens or something has been broken in one of their updates.

    What are motifs??
I believed people when they said motifs can be found in chests and by doing daily quests in Morrowind....
What they didn't tell me was that you had to do the same *** day in day out for weeks until you see ONE.

Ah well, back to farming thousands of mobs in that quaint little public dungeon in the vain hope that one day a one handed weapon will drop :'(

Best butchering of Kagrenac's I've seen this far :D

But yes, there are places where crafted gear is heavily used. Shacklebreaker is a HIGHLY desired craftable set now for PvPers, Seducer's is going back up in popularity, and Kag's will always be an extremely useful and highly used set in PvP. Just to name a few.

This isn't the first thread about the whole crafting being useless now, and I started one of the others myself...

What's the point in motifs when most sets you need for decent builds are not crafted but farmed and can't be changed in any way.
Apart from making proud Dunmer warriors wearing Argonian gear and proud Argonians wear slaver's attire, us master crafters are sitting on a pile of motifs we don't have any use for.

We need a recraft feature to be able to change the style of our ugly farmed gear. Or we need to be able to craft the dropped sets somehow.
Not sure how to get this into the game economics and all, but it's really, really needed.

Um, what the hell are you talking about? This game is entertainment. Content has worth if it entertains you. Achievements are no more worthless than gear, titles, fancy mounts, or leaderboards.
