2H counting as 2 sets? Sustain issues for mags

Im currently having sustain issues on my templar that prevents me from finishing single player arena...

This is due to this fact
I cant equip 2 sets and a monster helm like dual wield or sword and board.
I am a MAG templar and i need to decide if I pick a monster helm or 2 sets... with the current sustain, if i pick using a sustain set... cant so enough dmg to finish it... if i pick a dps set.. i cant sustain...

I know I would be able to finish if I could wear a sustain set.. a dps set and a monster helm... but im stuck... this is not possible unless I pick 2 swords.. but I lose my heavy attacks for.. again.. sustain...

Is ZOS ever going to implement this??
last time they said they were looking at this... but...

Welcome to "Heavy Attacks Online: Resource Micromanagement Edition".

Because that's all this game has become with the Morrowind Update.

Sad thing is, the PTS Forums and pretty much the whole internet were burning with discontent over these very changes, yet ZOS just plowed right on ahead, summarily ignoring everyone that didn't give them glowing praise.

So, enjoy that resource micromanagement and the severe slowing down of combat due to the necessity of heavy attacks. Because ZOS seems to think that thinking about nothing but resource micromanagement is "fun"...

Mages had it wasy last few patches. So ZOS want to make Stamina easier to play now. Just wait your turn again in about 6 to 9 months. Or you can do like some of us have done. And level at least one stamina and one magicka of each class and give ZOS the finger when they want to rotate FoTM classes.

That is common business practice in MMORPGs. It pushes players to buy character slots and race changes. They normally wouldn't have if the game was balance and everyone was nearly on equal playing field.

Just like the Proc Set situation is only encouraged by ZOS because. It encourages players to buy the DLCs or maintain ESO+ so they can just have their Gear Kill things for them.

I think that every weapon skill line is better than DW except for PvE stam DPS purposes.
It is fair that DW gives an extra set bonus.
If u wanna make it so for the rest of the weapons, DW should get a CC or a gap closer(throwing daggers are not gap closers)

    ok so...

Setup say witchman on back bar weapon and your whatever set on front bar.

cut to witchman backbar buff bar when ulti is ready and drop the ulti gaining thousands of health and stamina... plus the full ulti. then swap back to your main action bar while ulti reloads.

You de facto get the exact same gains as far as 5pc bonus as if you had them both going all the time.

or make clever alchy the backbar and when you swap to buff hit potion right before swapping back and have big DPS boost for 15s... then wait til it times out before again back to rebuff and potion again.

    or...

The key is you do not have to run two 5pc "always on" sets bonuses to get the equivalent use out of two 5pc cooldown bonuses.

basically you need to pick sets that work with an 11 slot build and swap back and forth every X amount of time. there are quite a few, either crafted or drops, offense or sustain to choose from.

My dream setup.. would be a fire staff on one hand and a resto on another...without losing my 2 sets and monster helm

Before sustain changes... i had this.. with a dps set and monster helm... but welcome morrowind... if i use this it becomes a heavy attack fest.. and i die

its not just templars that are effected by the 'recent changes'

I think a lot of people would like to be able to equip 3 full sets, but (sadly) a decision needs to be made,

    you could
    • change the glyphs on your swords to deal magic return magic,
    • equip poisons (expesive)
    • change some jewelry glyphs to recovery,
    • change food to drink

i did nHoF earlier on my Mag DK i used to struggle with my resources before, today was just PAINFULL, i need to tweak things which i hope will make it more bearable, but im not holding my breath

Why not DW/destro? Then you could run Elemental Drain for sustain along with Channeled Focus. That's what I do. You could also run Witchmother's Brew if that's not enough.

I'm pretty sure ZOS is encouraging heavy attacking not because resource management is "fun" but because it's more fun when people have to drop their block more often. They could not increase block cost without seriously hurting a tank's effectiveness in PvE.

I can't say for certain but elemental drain should help tremendously. 400ish magika every 4 seconds vs 300 a second while providing a major armor debuff and it's a free cast. Not to mention you gain access to the best ground based dot and good spamable/ranged interrupt. The only thing you are losing is the HoT from regen and maybe healing ward if you are using it.

Magicka Templar can run swords still and have a staff on their back bar. It is probably still meta.

I think it was after they announced Morrowind that they said they were looking into set bonus with 2H. Those of us around since the game launched remember Zos said they were working on Jewelry Crafting and soon afterwards mentioned Spell Crafting. Three years later . . .

hey look it's this thread again

you say you can't have the best of both worlds. that you need to choose between damage and sustain. this is good. the game needs to keep going this direction

the players have just gotten so used to having "master of all-trades" builds that it seems so alien

Yeah needs to change so 2H provide 2 set item bonuses equal to dual wield, right now no magicka weapon allows this which is a massive oversight.

I have completed Maelstrom arena twice on a magicka templar, and twice on magicka warden since patch. Have had no sustain issues that could not be addressed with potion use. And I have no sustain through items equipped other than all light armor. I will use lightning staff on the rare mobs I don't feel pressed for time to kill, but really that is just for maintaining a full bar going into the next burst, magicka return and base abilities are enough for any fight sequence. With health/magicka return food I am at 1300 magicka per 2 in combat, seeing no problems. I have stayed in pvp gear for all the runs also. Warden is spinner/necro, templar is soul/juli/slime.

Have yet to get a worthwhile destro staff from the arena so my off bar is a generic lightning staff with sharpened.

I die to lack of sustain in pvp, but not in maelstrom, same gear and build, and use maybe 4 of the buff objects in all the rounds.

Thats the point.. templars use DW because of this... and because templars main dmg ability is a melee one (spear) where you can snuck a light attack between spears cause is melee... Sorcs cant do this.. since their main dmg ability is ranged...

    • 2 pc Monster set
    • 4 pc Armor set #1 + Weapon set #1 = first 5 pc set
    • 1 pc Armor set #2 + 3 pc jewelry set #2 + weapon = 2nd 5 pc set
    • DW will also let you complete your 2nd set, but if you're not actually using the weapon, you shouldn't be getting anything from it anyway. It's an asinine mechanic, and always has been.
