Was it a good idea to flood the market with motifs and other goodies at ESO anniversary?

Since anniversary I feel a downswing in sales. I myself with 7 chars was getting over 30 anniversary boxes within a hour of play. While being happy to see rare motifs like Ancient Org legs each time I open the box I see now the other side of the coin. All motifs dropped 50% in price as well as rare materials like aldmeri feathers etc. Do you think it was reasonable to flood the players with such amount of rare things?

For the motif economy, no it wasnt. Some motifs just wont sell now.

I suspect it's working as intended and they have been trying to diminish gold earning potential so you have to buy houses with crowns instead of gold

I absolutely loved the anniversary event and all the cool motifs that dropped. There will hopefully be lots of new players with Morrowind and the motif market should pick back up again. However, brand new players will not have tons of gold at the beginning.

I'm definitely not being able to sell much of anything, prices don't rebound from events like this. Which is sad, I like collecting houses, but there's no way I can afford to furnish them with crowns.

The motif economy re-stabilized within a week of the end of that anniversary according to MM for me... Not sure what platform you are on but everything is back to normal.

Also, take into account that a lot of non pvp-ers were able to complete Akiviri within that holiday... So those collectors are now, in essence, out.

They are moving on to new Morrowind motif's and Silken Ring.

Nonsense conspiracy theories are hilarious... Gods forbid ZoS try and give something that every player wants in an anniversary event.

I think ZOS have been looking at ways to curb the economy for a while now. Having all sorts of things locked behind guild traders that they cannot control is not good for new players, therefore not good for ZOS. This started with the switch for a lot of dropped gear to be bind on pickup instead of bind on equip. Suddenly a lot of items people might farm and sell became bound.

The motif flood as part of the anniversary event did actually have it's benefits. With master writs requiring all sorts of motifs to complete, it gave a lot of people a huge chance to plug a lot of missing holes in their collections, without paying a fortune.

As someone who had never bothered collecting motifs, it actually sent me to the market place after the event to complete collections that the event had got me started on. While they might have been cheaper than before the event started, I would never have bothered to pay for them without the event.

There are still plenty of ways to make gold, you just have to adjust to the market place. If I did my daily writs on 8 characters every day, between mats, tempers and master writ sales, I can still make over 500k a week.

I suppose it depends on your perspective. If you make a lot of your gold from selling motifs then obviously no, it wasn't good.

But if you're more likely to buy motifs than sell them then it's great.

Overall I suspect it's a good thing for the economy long-term. Continuous inflation is never a good thing, especially because sooner or later it hits a point where it's excluding new players who haven't had the same opportunities to make money, or simply haven't had as much time. If every time they look at a guild trader all the items seem disproportionately expensive then sooner or later they stop looking, and therefore never get to the point of buying and you end up with a closed and shrinking group of people selling only to each other.

This was a massive problem in Ultima Online in the early years before they learned to implement gold sinks.
