Riften, Morrowind, Windhelm...What's the Difference?

So I've got several questions wrapped into one question.

1: What's the major difference between the Riften I've come to love in Skyrim and the Riften in ESO?
2: What's the major difference between TES3: Morrowind and the Morrowind we're going to come to love today?
3: What's the major difference between the Windhem I've come to love in Skyrim and the Windhelm in ESO?

I'm just wondering for future reference.

Thanks, all! Lord Arena25 out!

ESO takes place in the second era, skyrim takes place in the 4th era, the places are the same just many years apart

Riften and Windhelm will look quite different from the Skyrim versions, but Vvardenfell will look mostly recognizeable with a few differences.

I think Riften and windhelm might look so different due to the fact ESO has been in development back when Oblivion was just coming out. The general idea is the same, Riften has its canal and central trading area, and the sewers (the outlaws refuge in Riften does look very similar to the Cistern of the thieves guild of Skyrim).

Windhelm has its docks and different quarters but yeah, a lot more has changed in those cities than in Balmora it seems :P

    Main differences

Riften: Both Riften in Skyrim and Riften in ESO look almost the same. The key difference is that ESO Riften is prior to the city being burned down and rebuilt.

Vvardenfell: There is no Ghost Fence and Red Mountain is not nearly as active. The map looks almost exactly the same

Windhelm: Windhelm in ESO is rebuilding after the Akaviri invasion. Windhelm in Skyrim has already been rebuilt and is a lot larger

that pretty much sums it up.

The areas are all the same just are less developed than their future counter-parts.

As far as Vvardenfell goes, It's pretty much spot on the same, just looks nicer because of higher resolution graphics and the fact that the Red Mountain has yet to lay waste to Vvardenfell.

Well first off, they're modeled by completely different developers, so they're not the same. However people have claimed that they look different cause ESO and Skyrim are so far apart chronologically that anything can happen in the numerous centuries between.

Morrowind, or specifically Vvardenfell is the same way. Two different developers = different creative visions. They're supposed to be generally similar, yet details varied. And the gap in time is the Lore excuse to explain the differences. Went over the timeline, ESO is, give or take a few years, 750 years prior to the events of Skyrim.

I don't think windhelm in Skyrim is bigger than ESO, I am pretty sure the ESO one is much bigger. It is just less fortified and there is no access to the palace.
