I am sorry ofr your loss to be honest too. i hope ZOs will deal with these guys soon enough.
This is the reason why i avoid face to face trades as well, and mostly using COD. It is secure better then face to face trade trickery thats for sure.

Safest way is always guild stores, even CoD has its flaws try coding a 2m item to someone just to have them sit on it for the 3 days then your out of the CoD commission and those 3 days trying to sell it.

hm And how much time is it needs when your cod comeback if some one is not buy your item? it should be a 24 hour waiting time if soem one is not get your item you recive back. is there something similar in the game?

Takes 3 days to get the item to return if they didn't buy it, and your also out of the CoD fee which you paid for if they didn't buy it.

Ish, no.
Running around and finding deals is so much better.
I don't see it as a scam. Everything was made in law of game. You made offer, they accepted. Only problem is, you made good offer to them and bad offer for yourself. At most you can complain about how poor is Zenimax trade design. It should atleast paint something red or prompt confirm window that you are going to give away item free that has high value or if price was changed by user.
If I would get my account terminated, because someone gave me a free item....well I would do nothing, because I don't want to waste my time on something so small... but if I like had free resources, i would turn this into bile of sh#t for Zenimax, because as I see they took away something I bought and I didn't do anything that goes against game rules. If someone wants to give me free items, I have no obligations to trade it back.

@Kyle1983b14_ESO it would have zero affect on preventing this type of scam. It would make it easier for the scammers to find players to scam if everything was listed in one location.
OP, sorry you got scammed on such a sweet item.

Some people don't have the time to go looking around every day to get what they want, most just end up quitting due to the fact this system really is bad tbh.

Meh. A centralized auction house would pretty much kill a ton of dedicated trading guilds. Lots of these guilds survive by buying and reselling.

Scammers, and other troublemakers, can be reported in-game and on our help portal. When reporting a player, it’s helpful to have evidence of the exchange and how it fell through, so please send along any documentation you have. Additionally, if you are playing on a console, you can contact Sony / Microsoft directly for more information on how to ignore or report a player who you feel is in violation of Sony or Microsoft’s Terms of Service.
The trading market in ESOTU is a buyer beware market, especially when operating outside the trade window. Please be aware that trading with another player in game is a risk. While most players are upfront and honest, there are some players who have dishonest intentions.

Any equivalent for consoles?

I agree with you on this; the OP *should* not have hit submit. Yes, he was tricked, but he did hit the Submit button without the first verifying the gold was in the trade window.
ZOS has said numerous times they will NOT get involved in this type of situation; they have also said repeatedly that trading is 'at your own risk'. If a player is telling you that they are trying to avoid paying a guild fee, that is usually a HUGE indicator that they are not trustworthy. If you're a member of a guild and are outright trying to short-change them, it should tell you what type of person that they are. AVOID and BLOCK them!!!

Yeah TTC has listings but it doesn't say if the item gets sold or not that's the flaw.
Here's a warning to the ESO community about a current in-game scam.
I was contacted on two successive days by a player who wanted to buy a high-value item (Attunable Blacksmithing Station) but wanted to trade in person to save the guild store fees. I had one on hand, so I agreed. They then grouped with me, met up, I placed the item in the trade window, they put in the gold, and then I submitted and they canceled. This repeated twice (I thought the trade system was glitching as it has in the past) and then I submitted before they put in the gold and they ran off with the item. They then immediately ignored me so I couldn't whisper them and haven't been heard from since.
I know this sort of cheating has gone on in the past, however this player showed a higher degree of sophistication than most. They specifically targeted me because I had a high-value item listed on a top guild trader (ETU on PC / NA), and they messages me on two consecutive days. If they did this once to me, I can only expect that they will continue to do this to others until their crimes catch up with them. For now, I would recommend never trading with strangers directly, and instead using guild stores for sales to avoid scams.
For ZOS, I have reported this player using the in game system, I hope you address this promptly. In either case, I'll report the results of my support experience here as well.

Again, they will get involved because it's against the ToS.

Even CoD is not 100% legit either, they could sit on the item for the 3 days before its mailed back, its not as bad as completely losing it but still sucks, also you lose out on the CoD fee as well if it was a high ticket item that could cost quite a bit
@Kyle1983b14_ESO , this is 100% wrong. If the item is returned, either by the receiver denying it or from 3 days' timeout, you get the COD fee and even the mailing fee back.Kyle1983b14_ESO wrote: »Takes 3 days to get the item to return if they didn't buy it, and your also out of the CoD fee which you paid for if they didn't buy it.
