OP I agree. However, they also made one other idiotic change that no one seems to be mentioning. Pets will now switch targets to whatever enemy you heavy attack. If I want my pet to switch targets, I want the choice to do it manually. I don't want my pet leaving the mob they are supposed to be tanking to go chase an add that I'm cleaning up...
They should have left pets alone, period.
@Wrobel can we just have better controls? Also an explanation on pet lacking health Regen while I can't use siphon on Bosses

So basically anyone who plays solo and doesn't have a heal have to un-slot, re-slot (because we don't have a dismiss button) and then re-summon the pet to get it back to full health after each fight! Ridiculous.
I use the clannfear and the same button/key that summons them heals when they are active. So I have no need to unsummon my clannfear........I just heal him.
Did you not read the part where I said not having a heal?... Pet heal would be considered a slotted heal...
Clearly I was not referring to the people who have the morph heal...
Excuse me if I am dense but I am not understanding. I only use clannfear so I don't know about other summoned pets. My heal is not a separate slot.......it is the same slot that summons my clannfear. In other words, clannfear comes with a heal and, if I'm not mistaken, so does twilight. What summoned pet do you use?
Please don't jump my ass if I am not understanding.......I'm trying.

Open character sheet and right click pet "buff" icon to dismiss

Yes, but the thing is you shouldn't have to do that....
Like any mmo in history it should automatically regain health out of combat. Its completely obnoxious to have to do that...
I personally feel that there should be zero out of combat healing not just for pets, but no rapid health regen either for players. This is is punish players who spec out purely for offensive but totally neglect defence. Defensive players will at least slot 1 heal or resort to potions or have decent health regeneration.
Have you ever been grouped with just one person which happens to draw aggro or start combat when you try to access your inventory to put up some poison on weapon/staves, move pots into quickslot or delete trash? Too many time I have had that experience that you can be put into combat mode which block you from doing all this.
You suggestion would be very bad as this game can put player into combat mode too fast and that way block from getting pots to heal up. It would also limit game further more from player to build as they like and with changes in Morrowind, most player have a bit more focus on staying alive even as DPS.
I also doubt that you see that this could cause new problem or at least try to see how game works in a PvE environment (open world vs grouped dungeons vs trials etc) and PvP (Cyrodiil, IPC and the new BG).
In PvP there is already some builds that are too strong on the defensive side, so this would probably make things only worse with too strong defensive builds instead. It is also very different when you are levelling up from scratch up 50 and when get to your first CP after level 50 and then when you are at full CP630. Have you even put some thought into that?

Yes I have. And I find that people use the rapid healing out of combat as too much of a crutch, so much so that many just ignore even bothering putting on a heal item ( Like a staff, a skill, or a potion). If anything, rapid healing out of combat blatantly encourages people to slot full on damage, and spec out on total offense. This applies even to solo players who are just questing.
In fact, the heavy emphasis on damage is precisely whats wrong. You see builds which go over the top on damage being the heavily favoured, while average builds being dissed. The DPS checks in dungeons also promotes this problem. If anything, I would prefer players to have to level up, juggling, healing/offence/defence just as in VMA. As it stands, everyone places far too heavy an emphasis on damage, and why group finders have such heavy imbalances.
