Your Characters - How has the patch affected them?

All of my characters are less fun to play.
I used to have fast paced, complex and fun rotations of shields, buffs, dots and direct damage attacks.
But I've been forced to simplify my rotations to just the bare basic attacks with the majority of them involving pressing one button repeatedly for light/heavy attacks.
One of my characters I completely removed the need for a second bar of skills because lack of resources don't allow for any more skills to be used. I've got everything down to an exciting 3 button rotation!

I find that my dps has increased for morrowind

I also got better score agains the target dummy. Can be due tighter rotation, but still. And that was with my stamina DK, others I've played too little to notice the difference.

The biggest thing that bugs me about the patch is that when I use DW I would animation cancel and still get the resources from my weapons hitting. Now it doesn't seem to happen unless I let the heavy attack animation completely finish. I used to could use this same set up in PvP but now I don't think I'd ever use DW in PvP as a DK despite chains keeping me on target 100% of the time and having golden weapons as opposed to a purple sword.

Also this post did nothing to address the spammiest of gankblades and gankplars since they can still kill you in 1-2 seconds before their resources run out even if you have 25K+ HP, heavy armor, and volatile armor up.

It's really annoying that executes exist at all in this game when surprise attack hits for 10-14K essentially guaranteeing they can spam executes also hitting for 9K+ thanks to all the little miscelenious sources of damage.

I don't know if this is a patch problem or if my controller is broken. Anybody experience heavy attack cancelling not returning resources?

Changed a few items on all of my toons to adjust (2x SP enchant on jewls with 1x Regen instead of 3x SP, Atronach mundus instead of thief and using 3 stats food giving max health+max magika+magika regen instead of max magika+max health), a bit less spell power and a bit more magika regen, and nothing changed most on any of them, DPS droped a bit but not that much and no sustain issue, even when spamming skill and spell weaving as i was before, on my sorc before patch i wwas doing 30-31k on dummy, no elemental drain, no ones buffs but mine, no ultimate, no spell power potions, i lasted 30 seconds, now with my changes, i do a bit less, 25-27k but i can last about 2 minutes, as far as i'm concern the patch didn'T affect much on my Magika Sorc, Magika Templar pure healer, Magika NB, still haven't played yet my DK since tanking is not what i really like, but nothing to cry about on my side, even with lower spell power on my magika sorc i mainly again do most total % damage in trials (20-22% of total damage ain't that bad) or dungeons 30-35% when 3 people dps, and stilla bout 55% when healer just dps a bit, i presume beacuse people rather still keep their spell dmg and stay away from regen and cry. I can even spam BoL on my templar healer and no issue, if on any toon my magika get a bit low, 1-2 heavy attack per 2 minutes fixes it. No drama on my side. Just a bit less crit but anyways. I haven't et either seen any chances on my friends toon, we can stil clear most vet dungeon like a flash.

My magplar healer is okay except it is much tougher now if she gets stuck solo vs WB in an aedric spear sweeping fest. When that happens, mag sustain becomes a challenge since it is dangerous to do a heavy staff attack when a boss is beating your face. But hey, she's a healer, not a boss killer.

My magsorc is fine. I use Matriarch, Clannfear, Eledrain, Surge, Blockade, Lightning Flood, Crystal Blast (don't care about 'free proc' and want the stun). Heavy attacks have always been an important part of her combat. She doesn't use the popular VF or frags.

My bow/bow stamsorc is no longer fun to play so she is on the shelf. Changes to her little clannfear tank healing and AI have literally sucked all the fun out of playing her. She doesn't have the magicka to effectively keep the clannfear healed without his auto heal between skirmishes. She loved to start a fight from stealth by sending him in to attack since foes did not go aggro until he actually bit them - now they go aggro as soon as she tells him to begin his charge. So blending him with a stealth style is no longer fun. She was always on the edge as far as effectiveness goes but I found her fun to play. Not any more.

I don't really play meta builds. Clearly a bow/bow build is very far from meta. And both my mag chars are Bosmer so that is not exactly meta either. My concern is that this patch may add desired challenge to those who like to minmaxmeta things but for those of us who, for roleplay reasons, play slightly more marginal/gimped builds, this patch quite discourages some nonoptimal but important (to me) choices and applies strong pressure to push me into the metabox. Ugh.

I notice a lot of the nightblades saying it hasn't changed much seem to be DPS.
As far as I can gather, DPS stam builds aren't as affected as tank stam builds. Mag based build also largely unaffected.

any other nightblade hybrid tanks out there?

I'm a nightblade tank. He's working on his fishing achievement now. We're also going to concentrate on thieves guild and dark brotherhood.

My healplar hasn't changed a thing except slotting Orbs instead of Repentance. No change, and I never expected it to change drastically either.

My stam nightblade that was rocking a bunch of crouching increases movement speed effects. Since were not allowed to have any fun at all in eso. :'< But overall not much yet, but i didn't have too much to lose yet thankfully. Otherwise i probably would of just out right quit and never came back lmfao. But overall besides morrowind i really really disapprove of the last patch. It offered nothing worth the headache of addons going out dated and the stuff they broke or messed up.

Actually I am pleased with the performance of my stamina NB. The dps isn't that bad and I don't have that much to heavy attack if the support is ok. I just do vet 4-man-vet-stuff with her, no trials though.

Still pretty clueless for my 4 magicka builds. DPS is ok as long as I am standing still or test it on a dummy, but not if you need to move and maybe even cancel HAs for that. Still trying to find a feeling when to start using HAs or maybe keep using a spam skill. Rotations are dead (except for a Sorc maybe) and you have to do your stuff much more adaptive and intuitive. Combat still feels clunky and slow in compare to prepatch. Imho the so called "fast paced combat" isn't that fast paced anymore (what I have heard it should be even worse in PvP).

When I play my chars as tanks I can still do my job, although I don't have all pieces in sturdy, but ok, they have legendary tank equip with prismatic defence glyphs. Spamming support and utility skills to the same degree as before is a no go though.

At least I now have a reason to flame healers in PUGs by using CAPS LOCK who deliver no/nada/zero support (and sadly they are still around as if no sustain nerf has ever hit the server).

In vMoL we are back to boss 2 (after several wipes on boss 1) while we could kill Rakkat formerly within a full moon circle.

So all in all I can say is:

    Not that great.

    Not a big change.

Just more boring to play because any gear that's not a sustain set was rendered obsolete and I don't find holding down the left mouse button engaging or dynamic gameplay.

I'm not sure I agree. Ignoring the individual concerned as I've no wish to make this personal and don't know his circumstances, history and reasons for quitting, it's often suggested that developers should pay more heed to the views of those fickle players who are constantly quitting over this, that, or something else rather than the players who actually enjoy the game and remain committed to it. If developers can bring in new players that's pretty useful, and that always involves making significant changes to a style of game that is intended to be evolutionary, but the baseline for any successful game is to keep the loyal and committed players who aren't the sort to QQ over every change no matter how little or large the change may be.

When there's a scenario in which there's a mass exodus of players then of course developers have to take heed. But that's not the case here. For every player who's quitting over the latest changes there's another player confirming that the changes haven't affected them, and another player again who says they've already adapted easily to the changes. Then there are returning or new players drawn in by Morrowind and the publicity surrounding it.

Developers should listen by all means to those players who leave, but they shouldn't make changes just to appease those players who have already indicated that if any changes aren't to their liking they'll be off again. They should build the future success of the game around what most remaining players like, not what a few departed players might have liked. Above all, developers should have their own vision for the game and stick by it without being blown off course every time there's a puff of wind.

Magica Sorc here, non-pet rotation. With the exact same gear and the exact same rotation as pre-patch, my DPS has increased by a few thousand in Vet Dungeons. It's really nice :) For Trials, it's about the same DPS because I have to throw in heavy attacks every now and then.

So far, it seems Tanking specs are most affected by the changes. From feedback, most dps specs not all that affected, and mag dps is golden, mine are for sure. Also, my healer is just as good too.

I've found my 2 weird specs, one a stam sorc who uses bow and 1h + shield no pets, and the other a nightblade split stat healer support dps jack of all trades, master of none, but great in groups, are both less fun. NB jack of all trades needs a total rethink, and stam sorc has had to give up a mag skill on each bar. No more mines, which was a large part of what made him useful in PvP, as he isn't a one shot sniper bow user.

In pvp my tank is now no more than a sack of meat who's only function is to be hit while more useful characters aren't being, which isn't fun.

NB tank died entirely. I can no longer sustain the fun Sap Tank playstyle I enjoyed and even after adjustments, I felt gimped to a point that it just wasn't fun anymore. He's been retired.

DK tank is harder sustain wise so had to sacrifice what little I invested into damage for more sustain but have managed. No more carrying PUGs though; I'll offer advise but the second I get attitude I'm out. My patience for that **** is 100% gone at this point.

Magblade has gone full Healer Spec now since Orbs change. Sustain wasn't a huge issue here but damage took a slight drop (probably due to changing from Scathing and Infallible to SPC and Worm). Enjoying it so far and the condescending remarks I used to get for not being a Templar healer have seemingly dried up as well so that's a plus for sure.

Stamblade has become a pain (more so than before), which I attribute largely to Leeching Strikes seemingly being glitched and not providing the burst resource return its suppose to. I've shelved him for the year it'll take for ZOS to fix that. No other comments for now.

Packmule Templars and Sorc still carrying my excess gear flawlessly.

Overall, I'm indifferent to the changes. My Magblade turned healer is enjoying the changes, DK tank is mostly unaffected but my Sap Tank and stamblade are currently shelved and it hurts me to see them there since I enjoyed them equally.

I play ranged characters (solo) because of medical reasons.

Mainly magsorc because I have the clannfear tanking for me. In Morrowind, I started a Warden with the bear tanking for her. The patch messed up major areas for both minions/pets.

Heavy staff attacks now pull your pet off the target he is on, and he'll run to the enemy you're attacking. If you are fighting a group with multiple enemies, that can cause him to be useless if you change your heavy attacks from one to another enemy. The clannfear health regen is screwed up, your pet dies easily, unless you heal him, which can be an issue mid-fight.

I like Morrowind very much, but the patch caused me major problems.

    Hope this is fixed soon.

Yea, my NB tank took a big hit too. He's still playable, but I'm also past carrying weak groups, which I used to enjoy. Tanking now is all about keeping threat, blocks or sometimes dodges, and heavy attacks, little flair or style to it. It use to be more dynamic.

Decreasing numbers of players willing to carry and teach new players isn't a good thing.

As a PvE dmg dealer (Sorc pet build) I had to make the choice to sacrifice dmg and survivability for magicka regen. The changes I made cost me 2k magicka pool (which also impacts my pet dmg) from food and 3k hp from food + gear set swap. I also changed glyph on my weapons to magicka siphon and overall boosted my magicka regen from 1700-ish to 2450. I am keeping my Mundus stone The Thief.

My main gripe is how broken my Clannfear now is. He randomly disappears into walls, sits on top of stairs looking at me fighting and he dies SO OFTEN. I can never trust my tanking pet to actually join me in battle. He seems to have trouble with change in levels and with doorways, and remains idle through many a fight. My friends and I have started yelling 'Pet check' in chat before going into boss battles out of necessity - with what I assume is the full AOE damage he now takes. One pet heal sets me back 6.2k magicka and often two heals are needed to top him off fully - which amounts to 30% of my total magicka. Needless to say healing my pet during vet dungeons and boss fights is tedious and draining to say the least, but if I let him despawn I am even worse off as that will not only lose me my Necro-gear max magicka increase, but the re-summon slows me to a standstill in what is often quite volatile situations. In all honesty though - the nerf to sustain was far too heavy-handed and it hit me harder than I was prepared for. I enjoy the game less as it is all about resource management and even then you are fighting a rapidly losing battle where you hope the other guy (AI) simply loses first. I by no means rush through dungeons, but in some I have to take small pit-stops to regen magicka when the mobs are spawning too close to each other.

The other thing my Clannfear has started doing is climb _everything_! I have to desummon him to use crafting stations now because he WILL climb on top of every single one of them.
