A discussion about Re-sale

I offer to buy reagents in bulk at 60% of their value. I have done this same basic thing, with various items, on every MMO I’ve ever played. As well as in the drugstore my wife and I own in real life. Our candy, soda, homeopathy and many other products are bought from distributors at about that rate.
Until I started playing ESO I never had a problem with it. Suddenly in this game people in the zones have become crusaders against re-sale profit! I get threats insults profanity, accusations, and more. All because I’m offering less than MM.
Is there no free market in this game? Where is the hidden code that says everything must be sold for MM prices only? Why is this the first game where re-sale sparks such outrage?
I wonder do all these offended people charge into retails stores around the world and demand that THEY start paying retail prices for their stock and make 0 profit?
Do they go around in game to all the traders I see that have items listed for up to 1000% over MM and cry to those sellers? I mean since they are so dedicated to making sure there is NO profit in the game why stop with me?
Looking for opinions on this.

I never claimed to have MM prices BUT I CAN claim the ability to buy large quantities and millions of gold worth of products immediately. Some people don’t want to sit and wait for days on end for trader sales =). They want their money NOW!

The problem is the trade system. For most, it's hard to make much. Undercutting makes people feel they'll make less, even though it help keep the market healthy.

They need to open up trading more, without making it a centralized system.

I'm a bit sleepy, and therefor confused. Are you talking about people complaining to you that you sell items for a price LOWER or HIGHER than what the MM says? Or both?

    If lower:
By selling your stuff for less gold, the MM price will drop. People who regularly buy something will always try to buy the one where MM says "Lower price" or "Average price". If it's more expensive, they'll keep check out another trader that'll sell it for less.
Meanwhile, those who try to sell the exact same items, will suddenly earn less gold for their wares.

Example: My MM says Rubedite ore is worth about 35 gold (should I change guilds or am I good?). If someone suddenly keeps selling stacks of that at 10 gold a piece, than other will eventually have to lower their price as well, or they won't be able to sell their ores. After a while, rubedite ore price could end up being 10 gold a piece. Which means I earn way less. So I stop farming rubedite for a while. Others will do the same as they found better ways to earn gold. When everyone stopped, one guy could suddenly sell a stack for 75 gold a piece. And if someone buys it, everyone else can follow.

OP buys in zone for half the price and then sells in stores for full price. And he asks if its normal that players complain about him and call him evil.

Unless you are actively trying to trick new players into selling expensive stuffs for a low price, they are just jealous that they are not smart enough to play the market. Playing the market is a component of this game. Just ignore them. I have ran into a couple of people like that myself, they are unworthy of our attention.

    Simple.....

Ignore stupid and carry on (maybe I should say the unintelligent or ignorant). People mean well but lack a lot of forethought and believe that their actions are creating "fairness" but actually they are not.

It's promoting the wrong intent which is how we've landed at these guilds that require fees and such to bid on traders and hold spots as well as having organized bid process to hold down locations in alliance guilds that aren't documented (also why the Guild Alliance is being suggested)

Why on Earth are you telling people in zonechat that you are looking to buy things at 60% of MM value?

This is bad marketting, it's the main reason why you get insults, not because you resell stuffs, but because the advertisement you make is poorly presented.

Instead, if you say, for example, "WTB Corn Flower 280g ea" (while it is 300g according to MM), you are not going to get any backlash. People who think the price is too low will simply not sell them to you. Fair and square.

The First Rule of Zone Chat: Don't do anything to wake up the trolls
The Second Rule of Zone Chat: If you wake up the trolls ignore them and they will go back to sleep.

There are many people in zone chat that hate the MM add on. and it has its limitations, mainly that it is restricted to what guilds you are in. I would say that if you dont want to wake the zone trolls that you advertise that you are buying in bulk at a set price as mentioned above. OR that you are buying in bulk and ask that people whisper you if interested, which moves the price negotiations to a more private setting.

    Agreed with this.

When I see people wanting to buy stuff in zone for what I consider a low price, I know they either will resell for a profit, or have no real idea of the current global perceived value. I can then choose to keep my items to myself and sell them to someone else who'll give me more money.

If you are advertising that you buy a large quantity of stuff at almost half the perceived value, I can imagine people are not in a hurry to sell you things that took a long time accumulating. It's not like "bulk" is easy to build in ESO, or there is an actual advantage to someone getting rid of several stacks at once (unless they are hurting for space). There's no excuse for hate whispers or threats though.

Edit: it's possible that the "crusaders" feel you are trying to scam newbies from selling at the expected prices, which would net them more gold? I remember seing someone almost selling a Kuta for 250g until the whole zone jumped on it saying the price would be 10 times that at least. New players don't really know the worth of each item, and they are at a stage where a couple of thousand gold will make a difference.

I would suggest you buy higher value items like wax, resin and tempers to resell. Buy them at even 80% mm price and resell. You will make more profit then regents.

I have a contact who is level 6. Honestly think he might be bot farming. Seems suspicious to me and his English is quite bad. Anyway He sells me 200 wax per day at around 80% mm price that I resell at 5% above mm price. He also sells me tempers and other items. Not sure why I agreed to buy 80,000 rebudeo leather off him. But the price seemed right. Honestly going to take a long time move that stock. Even the trading of 5 stacks at a time was very tedious.

My guess would be that in an electronic environment like this you are not adding much value - in a sense that you don't bridge any distance or that items don't go bad etc. Of course there is cashflow but the people complaining might not see this but instead look at you as part of the "establishment" that is artificially keeping prices high for them, thereby hindering their progress.

    Or something along those lines.

I would imagine that if someone knows that an item is worth, say, 5K, and you appear in chat offering to buy it for 3K, that it would seem to them that you are exploiting the ignorance of people, and exploiting ignorance to make money offends some people, and they will voice that opinion. *shrug*

White Knights feel like you are taking advantage of uninformed players. Even new players know when someone is offering to buy bulk, that they are reselling or making gold off the items via crafting. It isn't rocket science. But these people think so highly of themselves and so little of other people that they feel the need to tell everyone the obvious.

In a world where action houses aren't available to everyone... this happens.

Are you saying you are looking for a bulk buy?
I know players who thought they were getting a great deal when selling the few they had.
Only to find out they could have made more money selling them elsewhere.
    Lesson learned.

    Also, bot adverts are annoying.
You probably sound like a bot spammer.

If I think your price is shady I will go right behind you and offer more gold.
your not the only one with millions of gold and nothing to do with it.

What you need to do is find a farmer. There are people like that in this game.
All they do is farm and sell in bulk.
They know the prices and know what bulk buys are about.

So when you go to a guild trader you only buy items in white right? Because if you buy anything that is listed in MM Blue or green that means you’re scamming someone out of the REAL value. And as you stated only full value should be paid for all items!

They know the prices and know what bulk buys are about.

I’m running a business and like every business I purchase my stock below retail. Do you charge into your local GameStop, Wal-Mart, Walgreens, and other businesses and demand that they start purchasing their stock at retail value and make no profit?

Do you also go around to all the guild traders I see that have stuff listed for up to 1000% over MM and cry to those sellers? I mean since you are so dedicated to making sure there is NO profit in the game why stop with me?

I think you need to go to your local High school or Community college and ask to take a class on business and economics.
