Siege shields

I've noticed that siege shields extend through doors and walls. Does this mean that they absorb damage from attacks from the other side? For example, if I'm defending inside a keep and put up the shield next to the main door, will it absorb damage from siege weapons trying to break down the door?

How it, like almost every ground-targeted area of effect works is it occupies a spherical volume in the world and affects things that are placed in it. Siege shield actually does not interact with siege projectiles, it applies a buff to things within it that reduces damage from siege sources. This effect does not work on walls nor doors, but it would probably project a friendly on the other side of the wall if they are in the AoE.
