You know what im so very close to leaving this game after the bull-*** that i had to read on the text chat in cyro this morning, players praising IS and saying we spit on manchester after last nights terror attack on an arena packed with children for a concert.

As a mancunian born and bred i found it very difficult to have to read these comments from so called gamers, when what they are is nothing short of scumbag terrorists themselves, i know one player whos has screenshotted the text and forwarded this to the anti terror squad in the UK, i hope they are met with a massive knock on the door.

you should fix up and police your chat.

The Place by Tony Walsh Please Read
This is the place in the North West of England

It’s ace, it’s the best and the songs that we sing

From the stands, from our bands set the whole planet shaking

Our inventions are legends! There’s nowt we can’t make and

So we make brilliant music. We make brilliant bands

We make goals that make souls leap from seats in the stands

And we make things from steel and we make things from cotton

And we make people laugh, take the mick summat rotten

And we make you at home and we make you feel welcome

And we make summat happen, we can’t seem to help it

And if you’re looking for history then yes, we’ve a wealth

But the Manchester way is to make it yourself

And make us a record, a new number one

And make us a brew while you’re up, love. Go on!

And make us feel proud that you’re winning the league

And make us sing louder and make us believe it

that this is the place that has helped shape the world

And that this the place where a Manchester girl

Name of Emmeline Pankhurst from the streets of Moss Side

Led a Suffragette City with sisterhood pride

And this is the place with appliance of science

We’re on it, atomic, we strut with defiance

In the face of a challenge we always stand tall

Mancunians in union delivered it all

Such as housing and libraries, and health, education

And unions and co-ops, the first railway station

So we’re sorry! Bear with us! We invented commuters!

But we hope you forgive us – we invented computers!

And this is the place Henry Royce strolled with Rolls

And we’ve rocked and we’ve rolled with our own Northern Soul

And so this is the place to do business, then dance

Where go-getters and goal setters know they’ve a chance

And this is the place where we first played as kids

And me Mam lived and died here, she loved it she did

And this is the place where our folks came to work

Where they struggled in puddles, they hurt in the dirt

And they built us a city. They built us these towns

And they coughed on the cobbles to the deafening sound

Of the steaming machines and the screaming of slaves

They were scheming for greatness, they dreamed to their graves

And they left us a spirit, they left us a vibe

The Mancunian Way to survive and to thrive

And to work and to build, to connect and create and

Greater Manchester’s greatness is keeping it great

And so this is the place now we’ve kids of our own

Some are born here, some drawn here but we all call it home

And they’ve covered the cobbles, but they’ll never defeat

All the dreamers and schemers who still teem through these streets

Because this is a place that has been through some hard times

Oppressions, recessions, depressions and dark times

But we keep fighting back with Greater Manchester spirit

Northern grit, northern wit in Greater Manchester’s lyrics

And there’s hard times again in these streets of our city

But we won’t take defeat and we don’t want your pity

Because this a place where we stand strong together

With a smile on our face, Mancunians Forever

And we’ve got this* as the place where a team with a dream (*Forever Manchester)

Can get funding and something to help with their scheme

Because this is the place that understands your grand plans

We don’t do No Can Do, we just stress Yes We Can!

Forever Manchester’s a charity for people round ‘ere

You can fundraise, donate. You can be a volunteer

You can live local, give local. We can honestly say

We do charity differently, that Mancunian Way

And we fund local kids, and we fund local teams

We support local dreamers to work for their dreams

We support local groups and the great work they do

So can you …help us help… local people like you?

Because this is the place in our hearts, in our homes

Because this is the place that’s a part of our bones

‘Cos Greater Manchester gives us such strength from the fact

That this is the place. We should give something back.

Always remember. Never forget. Forever Manchester.

Why do you still have zone chat on? There is nothing worth seeing there.

Report them and convince anyone present to do the same. It's all you can do, we don't really have GMs going around in game like we did at launch. But if the same person gets reported 10+ times in a short time span, it'll reach ZOS's ears lickety-split.

If it helps any, they're probably bitterly unhappy, unfulfilled people in real life who use gaming as an outlet to make them feel like big people. And I'm sorry that happened. Thoughts are with you and yours.

If you report people for this, they will be banned. That's pretty far past what the EULA and ToS allow.

However as Danksta said, they can't live monitor chat, they're reliant on players like us reporting the people who break the rules or decide to be twisted in trolling and promoting stuff like this.

Stay strong you crazy Mancs, us southern softies are with you all.

    Just report.

In all honesty, and no disrespect, it's just punk kids saying things like that. Just mute/block people like that and move on. Just words, nothing more. Don't let them get to you because that's what they want.

That's truly disgusting, im glad someone reported them to the anti terror squad hopefully they will be taken care of. on ZoS end though I don't think its possible for them to prevent it there is nothing stopping anyone from going to their console and typing the most horrid disgusting things imaginable and posting it in zone. once you hit "send" its out there. what is possible though is to have them face repercussions for their actions, and hopefully the police handle them accordingly whether these individuals are potential violent terrorists themselves or children thinking they're being "edgy".

I think the onus should be on the players to report such issues. If they don't take action on issues reported that are as serious as the one mentioned in the OP then yes, that would lie on ZoS.

If we're thinking realistic here, each zone chat, guild chat for 6 different servers is too much to police. Just like the real police, they rely on our help to do their jobs. Asking them to police all their chat channels in unreasonable.

No company is willing to spend that much money. Too much manpower is needed. No company has people monitoring all communications. Big financial companies use algorithms to flag emails that need to be checked before going out. Beyond that, they check the emails during discovery when there is a lawsuit.

Since the chat is a social and public tool, relying on reporting is the best approach. Just have people available to investigate reports. It would be waaaaay too inefficient to have staff reading all the different chats. Context is also important and it would take a lot of people to follow all the conversations going on.

Not ZOS fault unless they ignore your report. If you didn't report, it is on you.

They don't just monitor chat, but if you report people they will take action. I get all kinds of crazy ass death threats and *** all the time and just send a report. If you're on console then the platform itself will likely do something to enforce it as well, report them through in game measures. I know on Xbox if you report someone and they take action you get a notification, but no specifics on what occurred.

Well, zone chat is "public space"... you'll hear silly stuff there just like everywhere.
I'm sorry you had to go through this and I guess just "ignoring it" is easier said than done. When there were attacks in France and in Belgium we did not hear such things on /zone. Perhaps it's the price to pay to use english, the language (more or less) mastered by everyone.
Anyway, all I wanted to say is that I'm sorry you had to hear/read that, and keep heads up, the overwhelming majority of us are in this together, with you and your city and everyone.

If so they would use an guild chat or say in an remote area.
Not in zone there they are likely to be reported. Its also very likely that all is logged.

Know that MMO chat has been used by Iranian as an secure channel. However they did not use zone, and iran could not ask for logs, they would just get an lol back.

And yes reporting them is the obvious thing to do, it will probably result in an ban.

That is sad to hear and pretty disgusting. Honestly though, I've never seen or even heard of zos in-game. I used to and occasionally still play runescape, and see player mods and game mods every other week, sometimes weekly. I have yet to see someone from zenimax in-game after playing since launch (if they really have the little [z] like my loading screen is always telling me). It's a little disheartening.

This is such an idiotic statement. You realize how many 1000s of agents it would take to just sit and live monitor all the different chat channels.. It's nothing about being cheap. No company even Blizzard who brings in 100s of millions a month from all their games would pay for that many employees to sit and watch chat boxes all day long.

This type of stuff was never an issue back in games like EQ because the community policed itself. If somebody was saying that kind of stuff in game they might as well just go create a new character cause that one was never going to get a group again. Then you could come out player run forums and post their name and screenshots to your hearts to desire to make sure more people knew about it.

I am sorry you had to read that garbage, and especially at such a wounding time.

That said - I'm wholly against policing people speaking in general. I think no matter how vile the message or words - they should be allowed to be spoken as long as they are not direct threats. Those words being respected on the other hand, not as much. Just because somebody should have the right to talk - does not mean we have to accept what they're saying as correct or even as welcome speech - it is okay to look down on these people and to say they deserve shame - but my line gets drawn at saying they should not speak their mind, no matter how awful.

I see racism all the time in text chat and want to start throwing fire at these clowns - but the reality is that my anger will only feed their stupidity. I am more of a corrector, instead of policing people, I would try to show the error in their ways through conversation - but in the majority of cases, even that only feeds the stupidity.

The sad reality is that these people see threads like this - and it actually encourages them more. I think being an M rated game and an online one - EsO should be seen much akin to how the rest of the internet is - a cesspool of filth that we have to wade through to enjoy our stay.

Policing the text chat would just be a burden on ZOS, and at the end of the day - these trolls would just find another avenue to express said thoughts.
