ESO RvR vs Guild Wars 2 WvW.

Hello everyone I'm a fairly new player that's coming from Guild Wars 2. GW2 has become boring for me with nothing to do so I'm giving ESO another go. I'm curious as to how ESO RvR is compared to GW2 is it better or worse? Just seeing what some of the other players thoughts are that may have experience with both games pvp.

RvR will be practicly dead after Morrowind for some time. Since population is already far from high new shiny BGs will drain it almost to 0 for some time.

I doubt that tbh . Most of my PvP guild aren't that bothered about BG. We think it will become hard quite quickly as people come up against tough premades. Still will have to wait and see.

As forthe PvP atm, it's definitely in flux as a lot.of.combat changes come in and they adjust CP and sustain. Going to be very interesting over the first month or so.

Welcome.back and see you on the field of battle.

I havnt played GW2 since ESO released and I dont know how much WvW have changed but...

GW2 has better RvR mechanics than ESO, winning a campaign in ESO means nothing so the players focus more on AP farming (PvP currency), at least in EU campaigns.

I didnt like the choo choo AoE trains in GW2 but its the same in ESO atm especially after the Eye of the storm ultimate introduced.

The population in RvR atm is ok, you can find fights easy, especially in prime time but as mentioned above BGs are coming with the new expansion so I expect as well many PvPers spending their time there for a while.

ESO PvP is far from dead. The population has stabilized and Azura's Star and Trueflame are generally pop locked. Haderus is limping a little but its still a great place to find smaller scale fights on and around prime time.

I agree that winning a campaign does net players with a lot of reward so AP farming is pretty common however - ESO PvP is simply what you make it.

Want to participate in epic battles? then go to Chalman/Bleakers Ash/Nikel

Want to do small scale? then go to Bruma or make your own by capping a resource far from support and poke the beehive a little.

Want to farm Tel Var with some high stakes? well, IC is still around and still worth visiting.

BGs will pull away alot of the small scalers and gankers. but it will not affect the larger guilds that prefer to run the group sizes they do. otherwise, why would they do it?

and honestly, Cyrodiil does not equal PvP in ESO. If you say,

well then there was still pvp it was just in the sewers. like, go down there and you'll find the pvp - idk what was negative about cyro being empty for a few weeks if that when the same level of pvp was happening in the sewers.

Does anyone know if BGs give you AP?

ESO RvR is much better then GW2 WvW. People will argue over mechanics, builds, etc. but they will do that in any game. The siege is far more involved in ESO compared to GW2 and can have some great fights. Maps are significantly larger then GW2 making decisions on where you go more important.

Since ESO is essentially 1 server, as long as you go to a campaign that is populated (going to be easier after morrowind eliminates a couple dead campaigns) you dont have to put up with the GW2 balance issue of weak servers being grouped with strong servers for an entire week of one sided pain (yes there is unbalanced times and yes there is night capping in ESO)

While there are definetly ball groups in ESO they are no where as stupid as GW2 was. I did GW2 for 2 years and while all games have issues we love to complain about I think you will find ESO far more enjoyable then GW2 WvW

People will get their BG sets and head back to Cyrodil asap. I'm stocking up on popcorn for all for all of the "X is OP, please nerf" threads that are going to pop up once BGs are released, and class imbalances can really shine.

You really believe people will be playing BG for the BG sets?

Maps are significantly larger then GW2 making decisions on where you go more important.

Imo Cyrodil is way to big for the amount of players there. If you want some action, there is not much decision making neccessary on where to go - you go where the swords/contested objectives are, because 99% of the map are completely empty. Longer travel times aren't that exciting either.

I played GW2 for 3 years (mainly WvW), before i started playing ESO recently. I enjoyed my first few months here, but mostly because it was something new. Some things that made me leave GW2 are an issue in ESO as well unfortunately, and i'm already unsure, if this game can keep me for long. But overall GW2 WvW and ESO PvP are quite similar, so if that's what you are looking for, there is no reason to not give it a try.

Is way better than GW2 but if you like BG then Guild Wars is the winner.

If you used to solo roaming in GW it is not possible anymore in Morrowind due to the new changes and they will very soon just let 1 campaign open (i know theres 4 but they will be empty as always because they are no cp) so the lag will be even worse and the zergs even bigger.

The one thing I remember most about GW2 was the horrible server imbalance population wise. Right now on PC NA there are definitely times where one server has more than the other, but they are at least close, and in prime time they are all locked for some really good fights.

In GW2 sometimes the populations were so out of whack that there was nothing to do for the whole week. And because you couldn't just hop on a different character from a different server without having a whole other account, it could not be remedied (even though faction hopping can have it's own issues I am aware).

One other thing, because the campaigns were all 7 day only starting on Friday nights, often the contest would be decided by Monday, leaving the rest of the week a boring circle of taking turns flipping keeps. No PvP to be found.

@danno8 well they try to fix that by server fusing. weaker servers get teamed together against stronger ones (population wise). Does it work? Dont know playing on Gandara EU and not much poulation problem.
