Are Heavy Attacks Considered Cast Time or Channeled Abilities, Would they Benefit from SoulShine?

Take the Lightning Heavy attack for example. It looks exactly like a channeled ability. So would it get the bonus 450 Spell Damage from the SoulShine Set?

Since I have a set I tested this on a target dummy and yes it affects heavy attacks.

I change one soulshine piece to a random heavy armor piece (so I have no set bonus), make a couple dozen heavy attacks with a lightning staff, and I consistently get 2400 dps with soulshine and 2100 without.

Restoration staff had similar results, but with the flame staff it was harder to tell.

    A few things I can confirm/note:
    • Restoration and Lightning Staff attacks are considered DoTs/channels and are affected by the relevant buffs.
    • Almost everything in the game is an "ability", not just player activated skills. Passives, buffs, ESO+, sneaking, sprinting, Light/Heavy attacks, Champion Points, etc... are all abilities.
    • Specific ability classes (Weapon, DoT, Direct Damage, Melee, etc...) are not well defined by the game or the ability data. They are likely controlled by hidden data on a per-ability basis that we don't have access too.

Would be cool, but, I seriously doubt it.
Power level to CP160 in a week:
Where is the end game? You just played it.
Why don't I have 300+ skill points? Because you skipped content along the way.
    Where is new content? Sigh.

good question, as there are those sets that specifically say they boost Light and Heavy attacks...so it would be fun to find out

hop on the PTS and have a go at a test dummy and see what happens

Soulshine isn't part of the overland set's box, at least on the character I checked it on. so I'm gonna have to hope for someone that has the set themselves and already knows the answer, or go grind for the gear.

Ability in the context of ESO gear, refers to something with a resource cost. Damage is the general word used for both abilities and light/heavy attacks.

No, heavy attacks are not abilities which is why they do not benefit from heavy attacks.

They're considered abilities, at least according to the Red Mountain Set, which can proc off of both heavy and light attacks.

Key word for rm is "weapon" abilities. Not the same thing.

That set says Weapon Ability specifically. Words can change in meaning based on the words used before them. Either Weapon Ability is the lazy way to mean H/L attacks as well as weapon skill line abilities, or it's an oversite.

If weapon is indeed a prefix that encompasses H/L attacks, shouldn't H/L attacks be subcategories of abilities then? Think of it like a "Red Glove". It's a glove, but in the category of it being red due to the red prefix.

As such, if they're using it as a prefix, then that means that all H/L attacks should be considered abilities, the lightning heavy most certainly is channeled. As such, the soulshine set, which effects channeled + cast time + abilities, it should effect the lightning heavy attack. If it doesn't they need to make some changes with how they word things.

Yes, I fully expect Soulshine to work with lightning heavy attack. I know for certain that the Cyrodiil's Light set works with lightning heavies (-15% damage taken while casting/channeling).
