I want to say people and the freedom of play as you want. We will disagree, duel and fight for Ruby throne but in the end of day we are all just amazing. Especially those guys behind the scenes.

What makes this game special?

Old school Fantasy for me, I think this is going to be very last one. After this its just all nostalgia and memories, I cant see no devs who go so far back into 90s after this. Yeah, Ive said this is Zen's chance to make it and keep this game floating, pull out Raistlin or Cameron, or Dritzz or whatever to keep it floating, aka old school cliches.

This is a great question which lead me to pondering. Am I really that bored? Why torture myself with the constant 100ms latency and disconnects, when I can play literally any other online game I own, with no lag. It's a damned mystery.

For me it's the world you can explore, and the characters and stories you can craft to imagine the setting as experienced by different people. Skyrim was my first TES and is still my favorite for this exercise. For example: What does the Dragonborn legend mean to the Dovahkiin if they're not a Nord? What does Alduin seem like to a devout Akatosh or Alkosh or Auri-El worshipper? And so on.

Also, modding it until it breaks.

      What, no poll?

My Bosmer boys are really quite cute. Also I like exploring and getting lost. I read all the quests and carefully think about my answers. It's like an interactive movie or a "choose your own adventure" novel they used to have when I was a kid. I like the feeling of accomplishment from a challenge which is why I play a sword and board magblade (I always fall asleep at the keyboard when I play my cheese character: Breton vampire magsorc).

I love crafting and trading, it's the biggest draw to an mmo versus a regular rpg. In fact I always have to manufacture a way to stay poor in a single player game because getting wealthy in games to the point of apathy ruins that "safe stress" factor for me. It's safe to "stress" about not making enough money for the golden vendor. "Striving" isn't torture when it's virtual.

I like the lore of this world. I've played a lot of kmmos and while they are flashy with their animations and models, there isn't any real substance.

Yeah, like others said above, I liked Skyrim.

I liked Skyrim because of the immense freedom, which I never experienced to that degree in any other game of its calibre. DA:I and Dishonored had better graphics and better voice-acting, VTMB had better writing better voice-acting and better role-play, Bioshock had better writing too, and all of these and more are objectively better games than Skyrim. But they were all very linear, they all forced you into a story which inevitably annoyed me a bit - why can't my character just flip the bird to all of you and go on his merry way? I kept coming back to TES because it let me do whatever I wanted with my char - be an adventurer or a smith or an alchemist or a vampire haunting a barrow or just frolic and pick flowers. Mods expanded these options even more.

The only thing I felt was lacking from Skyrim - aside from all of the above mentioned - was people. It could be an effect of the bad dialogue writing and (IMO) bad voiceacting for NPCs, but I always felt mine was the realest character in that world, which made all the actions ultimately meaningless.

So I was very happy when I discovered ESO was a thing, and joined anticipating the freedom I had in Skyrim plus actual real people. It didn't even matter if I never interacted with them, and I rarely do. Just seeing other players around the city doing their thing gives me what I was missing in Skyrim.

Turns out there is not actually as much freedom here as there was in TES5, which makes me sad. But there's still a lot of it, more than in any offline game. So I stick around.

I apologise in advance, but I kind of resent the "I liked Skyrim" answers. It's like there are a load of people in ESO that want it to be like the WORST entry in the TES series.

Skyrim was OK up to a point, but it was no Morrowind.

I am here because of the TES IP. I feel like it gets the fantasy genre just right. Also TES have khajiit and I love them (they are by far my favorite fictional race from anywhere).

Or at least that is why I came here in the first place. If it wasn't for the TES IP I would never have bought this game =).

Well I was a fan of the series after playing Oblivion. However I continue to play now mostly because its the only decent MMO on console, I've tried NeverWinter and was very unimpressed.

As a hardcore TES lore nerd I'd have to say that I play ESO because of the lore and richness of cultures and peoples. Combat mechanics-wise ESO is very enjoyable, but as an actual MMO with trials and stuff I, after over 10 years of MMO experience, have to say it's "Okay I guess". The exploration and world itself is what draws me in and pulls me back every time I leave.

You really deserve it. Get an awesome ! :o

I started playing this game only for the lore. Always loved The Elder Scrolls, how could I live without experiencing this opus. Being good or bad was unrelevant. Turned to be quite good still, tho, despite my apprehensions.

Playing with friends and family in The Elder Scrolls universe is what keep me playing it, I guess.

addiction factor, hard content and sense of accomplishment I receive from succeeding at the super hard stuff, bettering my technique and most of all, the ability to be creative with the classes. Sorc tank works as well as dps, mixing different sets for different situations, and ANIMATION CANCELLING because it adds an active element.

      Indeed!

And yes, I do need new glasses as my eyesight is one step closer to "Moth Priest" through playing ESO. :p;)

      On a more serious note...
      ...fer da Lore!
I have been an elder scrolls fan ever since TES:Morrowind, guiding my just released prisoner through the rich dunmer lore made me fall in love with the setting, and I kept at it ever since, come there daedra or dragons, and will until I... well... die or go blind I guess?
