Hello, question regarding PVP

MrUncle
MrUncle
Hello guys, I am new to this mmorpg, used to play World of Warcraft, spent some time in the game looking for books and inspecting the world, I am still not sure how PvP and lvl works here..

I am a templar and I'd like to go on melee instead of spells, is a two hand good? Or should I use other type of melee?

Regarding PvP, how is the pvp here? If anyone knows, on Wow, there are battlegrounds that you join, if you win them you get honor points that you can spend to improve your gear, there are also arenas.

I know that you can join some pvp maps and you can steal the scroll for your team if I am not wrong? But what lvl should you have so you won't get insta killed..., I already get some emails to join some sort of a battle but I am only lvl 10 so I won't.

Also regarding the level, what is the max lvl?

If you are stamina 2 hander is a very strong choice, gives you templars lack of major brutality plus an amazing heal.

When you PVP you earn Alliance Points(AP), with these you can buy siege/soul gems/potions/armour from vendors and special undaunted/dungeon sets from a weekly vendor who appears on weekends. No battlegrounds as of yet, will be coming soon for both Pc/console, I believe it will have its own reward system (currency).

There is level 1 to 49, once you have reached 50 you enter into a champion point(cp) system for endgame progression. There is Cp 1 to basically infinite? You are capped at 600cp though meaning you can only use 600 max universally at this time. These go up by 30cp each major patch I believe, but is subject to change. You are low level so head to BLACKWATERBLADE pvp campaign for anyone not at level 50, in that campaign you will have the best chance because its only for level 10-49. After that join the non cp campaign for level 50 currently azuras star until you reach a high enough cp that you feel comfortable to play on cp. I recommend sticking to the no cp route only because of how recent events are changing with campaigns and nerfs (also upcoming battlegrounds will be no cp). Id say once you can use two weapons like a 2h/bow and you have two ultimates and your ability bar is full; you are clear to pvp full time...Remember impenetrable trait on all pieces if you can! Good luck.

Thanks for your reply :D I'll enjoy the story until max lvl, but I am scared that I'll mess up my character as I'm newbie, for example, most of my abillities are using magicka, only one is using stamina that I upgraded with skill points. The one where you do some fast attacks with spears if I'm not wrong, not sure about the name.
So, will others change to stamina too?

you'll most likely go through numerous build iterations with your characters...abilities and gear will change, your own playstyle will most likely change...you may just want to try something different...

levels 1 through 49 you can mostly do whatever you like with your build and still do fine with delves and overland content...this actually also holds true for most situations in pvp...it's not really until you start doing the undaunted pledges, or play small scale pvp that you really need to have your build focused, efficient and synergized...

have fun - go do some zerg surfing - it's a blast :)

you may want though to see about doing some skyshard hunting and begin deconning runes and gear to get yourself started on leveling your blacksmithing/tailoring/woodworking and enchanting...it'll definitely pay off later down the line...

zerg surfing can either be done in groups or solo (I'm a solo zerg surfer myself)...

basically it means staying behind (or within) a "large" group (usually at least 23 players or more) and fighting based on that groups movement...

the best shields in the game are meat shields - wherein you try to position yourself in a way were you are less likely to be a target than others around you...

the only real challenge at times will be getting in on the kills (particularly if it's a large, skilled group you're playing off of)...

ranged weapons are really critical for zerg surfing...on each of my characters (except for my healer) I have a melee weapon equipped as well as a ranged weapon...

Edit: the term zerg itself comes from another mmo called starcraft i believe - a "zerg" was an insect like creature (basically like the ones in the movie: starship troopers)...individually a zerg was no big thing - put a bunch of them together and they become a force...

Edit: one of the most important features of armor/gear leveling is it will allow you to reasonably upgrade you gear from green to blue to purple...

i hear ya @MrUncle ...i'm about two years in the game and I'm just now leveling alchemy and using potions and poisons...

i'm still a noob when it comes to some of the tougher pve content...

prior to deconning your gear - check to see what different traits you can research...

i've been working on my crafting now for little over a year and I'm still researching some of the nirnhoned traits and still about 4 levels from maxing out my enchanting...

thankfully - it has (and continues) to be a fun journey...

since i've joined the forums, started asking questions - started trying to "maximize" my character's build I've seen a huge jump in how my characters are able to perform...

one of the best comments i've read regarding pvp play: if you're not "maximizing" your characters build - you're just going to fight better versions of yourself...pretty true statement...

it's taken quite a while - but, when I lose in pvp now, I can't blame my gear, champion points or build anymore...now it's just a matter of how well did I react to that particular situation/opponent(s)...

wish you the best and hope you continue to enjoy...let me know if you have any questions...

A ton of good info I here. Let me add ... enjoy the journey, but keep an eye on the destination. ESO, as most MMOs, is built to reward patience and long term play. If you plan on being around a long time - I'd estimate it takes an average player with a job about 12 to 18 months to get to champion point 600 - do things as you go that will make it easier on you down the road. Ranking up crafting is one. Ranking up abilities is another. If you think even for a second that something might be beneficial down the line, then do it. There is a 99.99% chance that it is.

Here are some more specific pointers for you.

    - Most people put all their rank up points into magic, stamina or health. My build, for example is 64-0-0 towards magic. Up until level 50 it won't matter much but once you get down the line it will. Your damage is directly tied to your resource pool. Someone with 64 points into stamina will hit harder than someone with 32 in each magic and stamina.
    - While medium armor is the standard for stamina across MMOs, PVP in Cyrodiil is NOT most MMOs. Unless you are a Jedi Master level player on the joysticks I HIGHLY RECOMMEND using 5 pieces of heavy armor.
    - Unlike the guys above I jumped into Veteran PVP as a level 10 on the day the game came out. Due to PC account transfers about 10% of the people were walking Gods while the rest of us were straight up cannon fodder. It is a very humbling experience but if you can deal with dying a lot - I MEAN A LOT - you'll be a better player in the long run.
    - The PVP map is the size of most full game maps. It's essentially the same size as GTAV but with 500+ combatants instead of 24. Certain areas will be quite and others will be outright mayhem. As stated above, if you want to experience PVP find a Zerg to surf. The biggest ones will likely be near the crossed swords on your map.
    - Lastly, have fun. PVP in Cyrodiil at its best is the most fun thing I have done in my 30 years of playing video games. At its worst it can be a laggy mess filled with people stomping you, literally, 50 on 1. Most often it's somewhere in the middle.

Since you seem like a positive person feel free to message me for anything else you might be wondering about.

Lots of great info already said!

Just going to add this site:
    http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Special:EsoBuildEditor

Use it to test builds and to see your stats. Has information on every calculation used, but more importantly, it helps you save gold by planning your build. Granted it will change very soon, but the core information is still there.

Also expect to die and it's a game; so don't worry about some of the salt other players will have. People keep forgetting it's a game without a competitive ladder system and the only competitive aspect is the final campaign score with heavy faction oriented identity (and faction drama lol).

Have fun, grab a beer, and make some friends!

Which system do you play on? You always have very polite and useful posts, but you mentioned something this week in another post about having some issues soloing in Cyrodiil (or something similar).

Anyway, if you're on XBox and need a Cyrodiil tour guide just lemme know.

Well ... I guess you'd have to be on EP too. Haha.

Don't worry about messing up your build. You can respec just about everything if you messed something up.

In regards to PvP the scrolls are a group effort to retrieve. In order to get your enemies scrolls you need to open the gates near their spawn point which requires all 3 "triangle" keeps nearby to be taken (the gate keep + the middle keep). So you won't be doing that on your own.
