I don't understand. It's a new game? (Morrowind)

Hi,

I'm reading the Q&A about Morrowind and since it can't be bought in the crown store and it's a new chapter, I don't understand how it will works. We need to buy a physical/digital version or Upgrade, but it's a new game... So do I need to switch game everytime I want to play ESO Original and ESO Morrowind?

Thank you

It's the same game, just a DLC expansion. Basically it'll be like Wrothgar. When you have the upgrade you can visit the isle of Vvardenfell whenever you want, and leave whenever you feel like it.

so basically without buying it you don't have access to it even though you downloaded the content for it already

Yes, it's like the PTS but without the P and the T and you'll have to pay for it ...

After Morrowind is installed, you will play as normal. You do not need to switch between them. Morrowind will just be a new place you can go, like any DLC. The Warden class will be an addition to the character generation screen that you will always have.

I currently have the physical version of ESO. If I buy the physical collector edition or the normal physical edition, will I have the change disc or I will be able to play with the newer disc and sell the old one?

EDIT : about the new class, will it be possible to change class for our current character? Don't know if it was added with the last update featuring character/race change...

Yes. People who do not buy Morrowind will simply not have access to Vvardenfell, or the Warden class, but your game will know about them.

This is actually a very good question... I have the digital version, but I preordered the physical collector's edition... (have Amazon Prime so I get 20% off)... so would I always have to have the disc in my XB1?

No it's not. They're saying that to get money from everyone. You have access to your existing characters in Morrowind with all their gear and crafting items. Your level will be the same. It will be no different to Orsinium or Imperial City.

You will encounter Wardens in Glenumbra or Malabal Tor. This is a DLC. The lawyers have been to work on this so they can make extra cash.

I've put so much money into this game. I feel very like a mug right now.

Don't try too hard to make sense of it. Online games are no longer trying to make sense with pricing, and terms that you might think are industry standard or have a fixed meaning aren't and don't. Promises aren't real, were always worded carefully so that they weren't even actually promises, and words can be rebranded and repurposed at any time without warning, consultation, or consequence.

Between subscription drop, cash shop, and gambling boxes, we've repeatedly seen that from a marketing standpoint there are zero rules whatsoever. We still have a great game and quality content, but we just don't exist in a market where there's a central authority, overarching guidelines, or any sense of decency.

My advice to you, and the advice I use for myself, is to take absolutely everything at face value, examine the price, and decide if it's worth a purchase from there. Reject all branding, treat terms like "DLC" and "Expansion" as meaningless placeholders, and just buy things that you think will be personally valuable. I myself think that the update will be worth the purchase, and went so far as to buy the physical collector's edition, mostly because of the journal. It looked awesome and they've done great with the other books in that style which were released in previous years. This will not be the case for everyone, and indeed some folks won't buy the new content at all. That is perfectly fine. Any choice you make is perfectly fine, just make the right one for your budget.

To deny that DLC and Expasions are the same thing is just silly.

Is an expansion not extra content that you download after purchase?

And isn't a DLC an expansion of the game?

They are not mutually exclusive. It's just that ZOS is being "smart" with terminology so that they can bail out of their promise to ESO Subscribers without technically breaking it. Sorta thing lawyers, politicians and big companies live for.

I personally don't really care, I will but it regardless, but let's be real here folks. Stop with the sugarcoating.

technically. yes. practically, there's difference in size, but more importantly - it comes with a new class. and that changes things. of course technically they could have also allowed people to buy it with crowns, like you can buy imperial upgrade, and/or pack that allows you to play as any race within any alliance (essentially biggest part of original preorder bonus) practically.. larger content updates require more resources. I would be that Wrothgar strained everything they had, so they realized that if they wanted to release something like that again, let alone bigger, or god forbid add a new much requested class (which if they sold individually and not as a part of expansion story, i guarantee you that accusations of pay to win? would be MUCH louder than they already are) they would need extra money, beyond subscription fees. (which is where a large chunk of aforementioned crowns would come from). so they came up with a compromise. a chapter that costs extra, and 3 DLC's per year that are included with the ESO plus cost and do not require the chapter to be accessed. sounds fair to me.

P.S. expansions always worked as DLC's in that they didn't separate expansion purchases from those that didn't buy it inside of base content. it works this way in every MMO, ever.

It depends on whether or not the game installed itself onto your XB's hard drive. I don't own any consoles, so I couldn't tell you how this game works on them. However, generally speaking, if the game installed itself on your hard drive, then the disc is only for verification and maybe to help load stuff.

Which means that, if the game is installed onto your hard drive, you should be able to play any part of the game with just the morrowind disc.(though, I wouldn't recommend losing the base game's disc)

As for the class: You have to roll a new character.

If you account the changes to the base game mechanics that will come with Morrowind, you aren't that far from the classification "new game".

It is an island. You may travel there by the boat.

Think of as like Wrothgar but full of the musty smell of elves instead of the pungent odours of orckind yes.

Khajiit has made a short (and yes permitted) film of her travels to Sadrith Mora in Vvardenfell. Not a guide as such and there is no fighting. Just the beginning of a drunken journey to save some friendly reptiles - and if that fails then maybe purchase a few for around the house.

    Silly question time.

Can you still play ESO without the Morrowind expansion/DLC?

The reason I ask is when I logged into the game this morning, it came up with a screen asking me to enter the Morrowind expansion code or purchase from the PSN Store. Bypassing this screeen was not an option.

My characters are still low level (10-20) so Morrowind is not required yet as I still have plenty of places to explore.

Could someone please let me know.

    Many thanks in advance.

    Brilliant, thanks for confirming.

How would I bypass the expansion/enter code screen to play the game? Pressing "B" or "Circle" only cancels the option to purchase the expansion or enter the code?

May have to give it another look later on.

    @Dak2099

I have not seen the PS4 version of the screen, but the PC version of the screen has a "hidden" exit from it that allows you to continue on without purchasing the Chapter or entering the code. It is probably the circle.

That screen does not re-appear, so once you get past it, you will not see it unless you want to. Later, you will see an on-screen message at some point saying that you don't own the Chapter and it will have some button you can press to return to that screen. I am not sure where it is on PS4, but it will either be on the screen where you select your server, or the screen where you select your character and enter the game. It will be there, on the screen, but it will not block you.

Inside the game, you will not find anything really different. If you try to go to Vvardenfell by wayshrine, you will get a message saying you do not own the Chapter. If you try to use one of the Navigators, they just won't take you.

What exactly did you purchase? IF YOU ALREADY OWNED the original base ESO game prior to Morrowind all you needed to do was purchase the MORROWIND UPGRADE.

If you DID NOT OWN ESO PRIOR TO MORROWIND, you needed to purchase the version of Morrowind that includes the base ESO game.

I'm not sure I understand your question fully.

Like Publius said, it depends on what version you bought. If it isn't letting you play the game then you might have only bought the Morrowind upgrade instead of buying the base game and the upgrade.

You literally cannot own Morrowind without the base game.

@Jyeba Assuming you upgraded you existing account, rather than creating a new account for Morrowind, you can log on to an existing character, who will be exactly where you left them. If you are starting a new character, you can get to the mainland by taking a boat from the docks of Seyda Neen after completing the new tutorial.
