Why doesn't ESO have Hard to Kill World Bosses? (40+ Man Bosses)

Every MMO today has Difficult World Bosses,

you could add those Rare World Bosses into areas like Reaper's March, Bangkorai, Windhelm etc. To encourage Guilds and Questers to Group up and give their all to try to Kill one of them.

Servers can barely handle 12 people standing in one spot and spamming skills all the time in trials, I can't even imagine game performance with 40 people doing the same.

Because it's hard enough to get people together for the ones we've got already?

It took me about 3-4 nights to kill the gargoyle boss in Rivenspire, mainly because no one wanted to come when I asked if anyone else wanted to do it (either they'd done it already, didn't answer at all or didn't know what I was talking about and went to the wrong place). And the first time there was enough people 1/2 of them were idiots who killed the main boss and then ran off, completely failing to notice that you have to kill all the smaller ones as well to get credit.

Most of them aren't that bad of course. But still I'm sceptical that a boss that needs 40+ people would get killed often in this game, unless it gave really amazing loot, in which case everyone who grinds trials or whatever would complain.

Yeah getting 4 ppl in One place to do something takes an hour of back and forth and a blood sacrifice. Getting a 40 man event going would be insane

Nah it's easy, you just have to Shout in the Chat or Guild, or form a Group by your own.

They have bosses like that in the Imperial City. I imagine they could work similar in open world as well.

I think a world boss would gain interest from enough people. Saying how many it would take is difficult, as you can have 10 players do the job of 40 or more, depending on skill level, character and personal.

I personally do not rush to the bosses now because half the time I have no idea where they are, and the ones calling out are a bit too vague even for me, who has played since the first year. With that said, I have not faced anything in the open world that takes more than two or three people. I usually just wait around for someone else to show up and give it a go. Worse case scenario is that we are unable to provide enough DPS. I find the reward seldom worth it though.

As for as the server handling it, I don't see why not, unless they are actually having problems as they sometimes do. The only server problems I have experienced is when all three factions come together to fight over one keep in Cyrodiil. Then you are talking at least 3 large teams, along with other smaller teams and singles all in one spot. That can get soupy for sure.

Even the IC bosses and mobs were significantly nerfed.

Whenever ZOS has tried to introduce challenging content, it is met with widespread outrage. The audience for this game is very casual and everyone wants to be able to do everything.

It's the forums that would explode. In 2.2 the Wrothgar WBs were frequently zerged without issue.

Make them drop costumes or vanity items, like FFXIV did 4 years ago and players will go in mass. On second thought.. it took Square a couple of months to optimize the fights well enough and add in the necessary loading priority sliders, ZoS will never be able to handle stuff like this.

I miss the old IC difficultly. Make the mistake of aggroing a boss or even 2 sets of mob groups and players were the least of your problems.

As others have noted, getting groups that large together would be an impossibility beyond the first month. Right now it's extremely difficult to get people to help with regular open world bosses, especially if you play at off-peak times. The first month would be fine, everyone would be going after the bosses, but after a month, everyone has already done them and lost all interest in doing them again.

    How would it work?
Would you need a fully specced tank?
Boss have 250 million plus health?
Many powerful adds with over 10 mil health?

I like the concept of a singular badass boss in each zone.

It's already apparently difficult getting together and organizing a 12 person Trial run. The logistics of twice that much let alone 40 some players would be nigh impossible unless it was completely random and players showed up of their own accord.

The only way that is going to happen if there's a pledge made out of it just like Orsinium World boss system is made for the rest of Tamriel. That would be more advised to have more people to join and also the loot is good not something thrown in the loop.

Orsinium world boss groups used to be in the teens. When they were high single digit people got careful about build balance or whatever before starting the fight.

What's the story on them now?

Not that I haven't enjoyed this sort of thing in other games in the past, but I find it ridiculous that a boss that requires 40+ people to kill can't just one-shot everyone, including the tank. If it's that tough, noone should be able to stand a chance.

If they are gonna add something like that, I propose they do same as Neverwinter did. Theres that boss what triggers every hour, if theres enough people, its activated, if not, then it remains unactivated. Neverwinter's way to do things is actually quite clever if you have low population or most people have done it before. Also if they are gonna do it, lets make it most epic battle ever, lots of different phases etc, maybe even multiple monsters, yeah, look at Neverwinter but do it even better, I see alot of marketing value if done right, but gotta be EPIC.

Just make epic world bosses and their henchmen siege city centres and towns. While an Epic WB is out, all services, crafting stations everything shut down, including quests. This creates a sense of urgency about a huge event which must be taken down before something can be done.

Give them gold jewelry, gold upgraders, 5k gold, purple furniture plans, placeable trophy, random weps from meaningful dungeon sets (bound to account but tradeable in group) etc. to their loot-table and ofc serious XP even for the 100th completion. This is what will make people interested. Not green jewelries, 100 gold, intricate traits, 5k XP etc.

Most world bosses are left in peace these days, sure there may be a crowd if they drop stuff like spinners but for the most part no one is there, not even the grinders do them as the effort to xp ratio just doesn't make sense, if we are talking about average players then I'd say a lot of the time you need more than four anyway, but 40, you are just being daft, it's hard enough to get 12 together for a normal trial, assuming the system could even cope with that combo of numbers and proximity

I leaded many 25 and 40 man raids the days back in WoW. Yes, it was fun and it was epic, but the 12 man raids are IMO *way* better for a modern designed MMO and have the same flair. And if you want to get a challenge with more people in a big zerg, join cyrodil ;-)

There are some strong world bosses around (for example the rifts in Craglorn), though the dolmens could have been adjusted to be more challenging.
