It seems like I am going in circles.

This is the 3 time for the 3rd character I am trying out, still using a bow BTW. But it seems I am doing the same quests mage.fighters, main, free house, over and over in each new location. When I finish up one area and get moved to the next new area these quests keep repeating. Is this normal and how the game plays out?

Not sure I entirely understand. All of the main quests, mages guild, fighters guild, undaunted are all the same no matter what character/alliance you are. I believe. The alliance quests are different. Each zone should have its own unique side quests. What do you mean you are doing the same quests over and over in each new location?

After moving the left foot one must move the right foot and repeat. Otherwise one is moving in circles.

    To your actual point.
That's how most MMOs play out.

Although many of us just grind to level up new characters after the first couple.

Yes once you complete all of the content and re-roll other characters it is the same. You still have base game dungeons/trials you can try out if you're looking for other things. You just need a team.

The guild's quest lines do not change based on alliance affiliations.

Did you possibly come to ESO from SWTOR? Then I'd fully understand your concerns :).
ESO lacks a separate heroic stories for each class. Repeating mages, fighters and main story is boring, especially when having full 8 characters or more.
PC EU (PL): 14 characters. ESO player since 06.08.2015. Farkas finest quote: "Some people don't think I'm smart. Those people get my fist. But you, I like."

COOL! could go for a class based questline :)

I actually "save" quests by paying 0 attention and reading nothing on certain characters to have something to read later.

    Welcome to the grind. http://checkitweb.com/hazop/work.htm
For some variation try going the other way :)

And yes its just so many ways you can write an quest, you noticed the same in Skyrim.

Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

edit: and that's what I get for not reading the whole thread first... :#

    One thing to note:

Before the "One Tamriel" patch scaled the entire world, the Main Story/Fighter's Guild/Mage's Guild quests were level locked. So those questlines would be drip-fed to you as you quested your way through your original Faction zones. Now that the entire game has been scaled so you can "go anywhere", you'll get those quests one after the other quickly.

So yeah, if you do those right away when you start a new character it'll get repetitive. What you can do instead is ignore those three questlines and just do the zone/faction stories & sidequests. Don't feel compelled to do Main/Fighter/Mage just because they hand you the next quest right away.

Yep pretty much. This is one of the main reasons why I frequently have to take breaks from eso for months at a time.

Quests get repetitive yes, but you have to realize that there are hundreds and hundreds of them. It would take a colossal effort to make each one unique. A lot of work has already gone into this part of the game with them all being fully voice acted and having meaningful plots. The options start to open up whenever you get further into the game. You could go run a trial, do your dungeon pledges, relax and farm for a bit, go into Cyrodiil, go to the Imperial Sewers, socialize with guildies, go questing, go on a thieving or murder spree, etc. etc.

Even better: Class AND race based quest lines... we can but dream.

Sadly since RotHC even SWTOR isn't doing much in the way of differentiated storylines.
