The Epic Quest for a Man's Soul

This is long so shoo if reading isn't fundamental.

I finished the main quest tonight. And it was glorious! I'm usually quite pessimistic about ZOS's business practices and the game balance issue. I mean, I can go on and on about the Crown Store and Crown Crates. But the game itself I really love. I started this character last October (I believe) and I guess he's my main. He's a nightblade and I don't care how awesome people claim they are, I still think they are a grand total of suck when compared to the others. He's finally got a bit over $100,000 on him due to a period of constant reskilling but I finally found something I could work with. And he does have 312CP which I don't think is too bad. I knew I needed to get this quest done if I was going to since I'm sure I'm not playing the right way so he's getting nerfed pretty soon. So, in celebration of my own personal enjoyment, I thought I'd list the fun things he did and experiences he had along the way. Maybe some spoilers, I guess if that's a thing.

First off, he's with the Covenant because its the best (no, the Aldmeri Dominion is... I'm so torn on this). I may get some spellings wrong because I'm too lazy to look it up.

-I got to met the Wyrd Stisters (no men allowed I guess) who were an interesting bunch. I thought them a pretty cool cult until later on when I had to carve out some lady's heart but heck, a hero has got to do what a hero has to do I guess.

-We definitely have a stoner for a king. That guy is so laid back his speech pattern can lull you to sleep. Still, he's apparently got the wandering eye. I figure if my guy plays his cards right, he can get in close with the queen and no one would notice this guy is gone. Redguard women, ah.

-Speaking of Redguard women, my guy failed to save a pretty nice lady up in Stormhaven. And I really wanted to. But the Fates were against us. My guy has no game.

-Oh, I almost forgot Angof the Gravesinger (I beat he had that changed legally, no one would name their baby that). I ended up picking him in Oblivion for some game. But man did I want to kill him back in Glenumbra. But the guy may have a rotted acorn for a heart but he seemed to turn over a new leaf so I thought maybe a new best friend.

-Alik'r. Right after (or before) Orsinium, this was my favorite area. They gave me some detail on their culture and where they came from as well as who they are as a people. I thought the Bretons got a little short shafted in that area but I suppose they're supposed to be generic Medieval culture. What I have read extra about them plays out in the game. They are plotters and schemers since that's pretty much most of our foes we had. But by and large, I'd say the Redguards are good people.

-We did stop off for a jaunt in Orsinium for bit. I see these guys are big Klingon fans. But that's cool. I like Trek better that Wars too. We had a great time there and mainly due to the side quests. I knew the king there was bad news from the start. Even worse, he had his mom fighting his battles when it came down to the finale. Still, he had cool clothes.

-Bangkorai was a bit so so. It wasn't bad but my interest really got picked up once we went down south. Maybe I shouldn't have picked Breton for the race of my guy. I thought we had screwed the pooch when the king up and died. I don't know what he's smoking but even death doesn't phase him. And he's still a horn dog. Or surfer. I kept saying if she favored her father then expect puppies for children.

-And finally the Companions. I really felt they took my guy in. Even Abnur grew on me. I actually learned to like the guy. Although he definitely was my top choice for the sacrifice. But Lyris and Sia were just too kooky kids that just needed to mature a bit to realize how much they're meant for each other. Sia did look a tad older than her dad though. But a little makeup over that scar and she's a pretty good looking woman. Definitely wears that breastplate well. That's what my guy says. I think its perverted to think of computer characters that way. And Varen was just like a father. Sort of since I'm not sure if my guy has one so Varen was a good choice. Even had a nickname for him. Really sad I picked him to die. What's with this game making me kill off all my guy's friends? But he did muck things up a bit. And poor Mannimarco. I say poor because I left that *** in torture. Ha! You going to make me kill this nice dude but give me the chance to save this worm (Get it? Worm? I bet his mom did name him that).

-We got to meet all these great characters (although a good deal could use a bit more fleshing out). Nothing prepared me the last parts of the quests. First off, Merida, if you're going to disguise yourself and don't want anyone to know, don't talk with ghost voice. I knew that one. But when we went up against Molag Bal. Blast raining down on us. The shield failing, Captain. And attack from the sides. Then I lost Darien before he bought that ale. What the heck happen to him? Did Merida save him or was his dream of blinding white like the battle and he died? That would suck. And poor King Dyner. I thought that was him from the Glenumbra Moors but wasn't sure till he told me just before the final battle. I like that guy and Cadwell is right. He does have a nice hat. Still, that was another friend we ended up losing. They should build him a statue someplace. He did help us humans out and I think technically he's like a Breton ancestor.

-But that wasn't all. Then I found out I forgot about that soul. Now, my guy has been doing pretty well soulless so I would have probably picked letting Molag keep it. Didn't get that choice. One thing bothered me. This seemed out of place. Didn't me and the gang (the other gang) fight this guy? Well, this time it was personal. And for a bit, my guy got the power of the gods. Which was like the first time I've had that in a game. Everything he fought died in one hit just about. And my favorite part was when this two hand sword of light showed up in his hand and he swung it perfectly. Amazing. I did think at the time that this must be what the developers see when they look at an average ESO player.

That was a really fun time. I've never had that experience in a MMO before. Usually our characters are so constrained with what they can do in MMOs, we rarely get to weld that kind of power. Power is good. More power is more good. Plus, its like we really made friends with these characters. I already miss them so hope we get to check in with them at some point. The implied threat from the nice goddess. Now I'm really expecting to see some Daedric interference in our lives. But I just went off to Auridon once we said our goodbyes. That was a bit... unexpected? I have another guy there and two zones in. I don't think things will be any different so I really want to get to that stuff Merida was talking about. There's a long road ahead of us. Still, I had such fun with this game especially tonight. ZOS can do good stuff. I wish patch notes were full of upcoming stories instead of what they are nowadays. If this whole story was a series of books, they'd be some of my favorites (still need to beef up characterization). I love the voice acting. Aryenn reminds me of Kate Beckinsale so the Dominion really should win this war (except the Covenant should). That alone makes her the hottest queen. On my other guy, I'm pretty sure I heard Linda Carter's voice who I really used to crush on. This is such a great game story wise. They should really push that and polish it. I would have finished this main story months ago if I knew just how good it was going to be. So, me and my little guys salute the creators. You did good. Should be proud. Glad I came along for the ride.

Now do something about that Crown Store!

Credit where it's due; Beth/Zos rarely skimp on the talent when it comes to voicing. The lead roles are generally relatively high profile (if not necessarily known for recent works) screen actors. Bill Nighy, Beckinsale, Gambon, Mcdowell, Lynda Carter and John Cleese in ESO alone are great. Backed up by pro voice actors like Tara Strong, Troy Baker and the legend that is Jim Cummings, they always seem to nail it in this regard.

And yes I almost spaffed when I first (unexpectedly) heard that glorious Yorkshire caress of my ears when encountering Martin for the first time in Oblivion....

The feel good factor is high on completing the main quests..I really enjoyed the story lines and their conclusions...I even got to feel like a hero for oooh 2 mins....

Completing Orsinium has a nice touch too :D
Everything will be alright in the end, if its not alright its not the end.

I wish 1T was a thing when I was levelling my first toon. Everything was getting pretty easy (boring) when I was about halfway through silver. It would have made it easier to remember all of the amazing stories.

Also if Emeric wasn't such a whiny little soandso.

I really didn't set out to be positive (I mean, it may have been but... oh, forget it). I just had a really good time. Truth be told, ESO is like almost every other game. Kill this mob, kill that mob. Even PvP looks the same. The game part is interchangeable with some variations with the handful I've played before. But story is so much better in ESO. I don't know why they aren't all over the internet telling people Now that I've seen what they're capable of, I'm going to expect it. I like when my heart strings get tugged on so limber up the fingers. I've already been happy with the Dominion side of things. I also have a character that's made it to Deshaan so far and not feeling much there though. See, I don't dismiss the Pact because it sucks. Well, it sort of does story wise so far. There's this guy that lost his son in Belrog (or whatever) and I just didn't feel that loss. I haven't had any that made me feel much. I just have met this Niryu (sp?) who sounds intriguing but I hope she's not people's favorite because she's the only one. Anyway, I guess we'll go stop the Veiled Heritance some more (btw, I love the language play... they wear the veil).
