I think what you are seeing is that people confuse "healer" with Templar. Just because one plays a Templar, doesn't mean one is qualified as a "healer" but from pug experience I can tell you that for a good number of people, it does.
There's nothing worse than a stamina Templar queued as a Healer. Makes my blood boil2 -

To answer Op: I love healing and tanking equally! I chose tank because I always have a candle lit for my poor beaten down nerfed nightblade tank.
In some other MMOs I played the tank´s role was rather static. Maybe a little herding the boss here and there but nothing too fancy. Real mechanics only came to play at raids; dungeons were boring, tank-wise. In ESO with it´s active blocking and dodgerolling even normal dungeons are fun to tank (well .. maybe not the old "normal" dungeons with their not so .. sophisticated mechanics). Okay, I´m missing some convienience like ranged-group-taunt I had with SWTOR-Powertech-tank but this only adds to the challenge.
ESO-bosses also seem to have more aggro-drop/reset-mechanics than other MMO´s bosses so the tank has to stay on her toes and positioning gets more difficult.

I like buffing/debuffing and being a team player but the way ESO is currently set up, you have to be a Templar Healer or a DK tank to be a "good" support and honestly, being a resource battery or a chain puller isn't my idea of fun.
Off tank would be the closest to my preferred playstyle but I just don't like tanking in the slightest, so when it comes time for me to actually tank with my off tank, my entire playstyle is thrown out the window in order to actually perform my tanking role which isn't fun for me.
It's actually the reason I stopped playing ESO, cause my playstyle was so highly discouraged that I couldn't have fun.Argonian forever0 -
