Hello
There are already dozens of threads on the forum voicing players' displeasure at the downtime and yet I'm writing another one in hopes that maybe one more, or maybe the next one or the next one, will finally make ZOS realise how strongly the community feels about it.
It is not the first time in relatively short time, that the maintenance has been prolonged. On its own, it might have not been enough for me to write this post, but on top of other server-side problems it became frustrating enough for me to decide to write this post.
For several months now I am dealing with random disconnects. Not even proper crashes or errors, I just get kicked to the login screen as if I logged out myself. There seems to be no common factor to those occurences, they can happen in the middle of a dungeon or while simple chatting with other players, without even moving from the spot. Be it morning, evening or just a middle of the day. Sometimes it happens as few af 4-5 times in a row and then I can play normally again and sometimes it is as long as half-an-hour struggle to log in and stay logged in. Sometimes it happens once a day, sometimes a few times. I know for a fact it is not an issue with my internet connection and I know a lot of players experience similar problem. I also know ZOS is aware of it so I am struggling to comprehend why it is still not solved. Perhaps it is such a complex and hard matter that it truly requires this much time, but then it would be enough to say so. That irregular maintenance a few weeks ago that was supposed to deal with it, quite frankly did not. However, what that downtime did, was show that ZOS is perfectly capable of doing the maintenance during European nighttime. In fact, it used to be so in the game's early days. Therefore I can only assume it changed because the company decided to cut the cost at the expense of EU players' convenience. I just can't imagine the savings are big enough to be worth it. There surely is an emergency team, however small, working overnights anyway. Considering the game's popularity, I sincerely doubt the sum required to pay the workers for working additional hours would be significant enough to make any difference whatsoever for company's profit while it would go a long way with the EU players.
On top of that issues like the one with group finder, which is so commonly and widely used tool, influence the quality of the game experience greatly.
If I am wrong, that's fine, but it would be nice if someone from ZOS actually made an official statement on that. It is a recurring issue and I feel that instead of confronting it ZOS prefers to ignore it. It will not disappear this way, I assure you, but some communication in the matter could certainly ease players' minds.
In short, I ask you, ZOS, to, please, reconsider your stance on EU maintenance times or perhaps to consider investing in a system that allows patching without the downtime, one that requires a simple relog to download the patch. Perhaps it is not possible with ESO's engine or whatever else considering ESO. Perhaps. I don't know and won't know unless someone from the dev team decides to answer, which, again I ask you to do. Not here, but an official thread or somesuch with ZOS's official stance and reason for their current policy would be greatly appreciated.
Respectfully,
@Lijka
P.S.
I expect that very quickly answers like: "go play another game" will appear. I have and I will, but I believe the fact that I took my time (as many other players did) to speak up and say that we would prefer to play ESO rather than those other games, indeed counts for something. You may say I seem entitled and full of myself, but indeed I believe that such dedication that causes me to invest in and support the game, that causes me to say: "I want to play ESO over other games", deserves a modicum of respect in form of aknowledging my (and many other players') concerns, even if simply by saying: "we can't do what you ask of us because: [insert whatever the reason]."
