Many people are going to reject the premise of your question until you clarify your position.

Demonstrate with fact how it's unethical, then we'll talk.

A question asking if you think persuading weak minded, often younge consumers into impulse buying already outrageously overpriced items is unethical. I dont have an opinion. Just curious.

How is it unethical though? They aren't lying about anything they aren't hiding information. You know it's limited time only. There is nothing unethical about it. If people can't resist they give up their right to complain about the system, and they should go play something else.

Nobody is making anyway buy the items. There is no "need" for the island home in the game. It's all if you want to have and if you can pay for it. If you can great, if not you should be buying the crowns for it. If some little kid is using daddy's CC to buy it, well then he's an idiot for letting his kid know how to use his CC to purchase crowns.

"Unethical" is a pretty heavy word to throw at fancy dress up clothes for imaginary wizards.

Well.. The Crown system IS intentionally deceiptful, just like how casino's work with chips:

"Hey, this island for only 15.000 imaginary in game crowns!"

    vs

"DAMN, they're charging € 120,00 REAL MONEY for an imaginary place to live for my imaginary heroes?"

If the Crown store was in actual money prices they wouldn't sell half as much.

Ethics have nothing to do with facts, truths, or lies. Its about one's moral compass. Another way to ask if something is ethical is to ask if it is morally right. You dont have to lie or deceit to be unethical.

The problem lies in players mentality who will buy things only and only because its "limited" time and the sole factor that made them buy it is "nobody else will have it after its gone".

Change players mentality, and then you will see change.

Honestly, I don't care about limited time items. You have your choice to buy or not.

What I really don't like are the NON-THEMED items being included in the THEMED CLOWN CRATES. Sparkly rocks held together with magic atronach mounts, yes fine, belong in atronach crates. Bundles of green glowing vines held together with magic Wild Hunt mounts, yes, fine, belong in Wild Hunt crates. Senche lion with black mane? Doom Wolf? Not atronach or wild hunt related......Yeah, not themed and shouldn't be in the clown crates....

Unethical. Lmao. Not laughing at you, but it's one of the most potent selling strategies any business can use and why 99.99% of retailers use limited time offers. It's nothing to do with "the players", because that insinuates it's a gaming only sales strategy, it's everything to do with all types of consumerism.

I think the premise of your query is wrong. A "sale" item, or "limited time only" item is not unethical. The purchase decision is still up to the buyer. To buy, or not to buy, that is the question...

Ok as numerous posters will probably point out:

    1. This game and it's creating company is a business, they are here to make money.
    2. The Crown store sells fluff. Nothing on there is required to play or enjoy the game.
    3. ESO will continue to make limited time offers as a marketing technique to increase sales revenue.

So if you can't restrain yourself from buying fluff you cannot afford. Or the crowns enter and leave your account faster than cheetah on amphetamines. Then I suggest you seek addiction counselling.

Otherwise do what the rest of us do. Buy Crowns only when they are on sale, save your monthly sub allotments and ONLY buy crown store stuff that you really really like.

I always ask myself one question before I purchase......

'If they brought out Akaviri Armor Costumes, an Imp Pet or the trailer nord hero beard tomorrow and I didn't have the crowns to buy them as a result of this purchase....would I regret it? '

There are many type of products being sold under limited (time, edition) promotions. It is a normal sales practice.
If that allows ZoS to make some money they can spend on future game development - let it be.
