This guy makes me want to cry!! what the hell with the huge AoE and endless additional archers. No matter what I do I end up dead over and over until I have run out of every last drop of energy.

So what is the secret to killing this guy?

Everything will be alright in the end, if its not alright its not the end.

Oh I hated him. Have done it 3 times - on a nb, then templar then mage.

Mage was easiest (usually is) but had a pet - he focused on that whilst I ground him down & dealt with his icemen.

With nb & templar I died. A lot. Found that using the stairs as a vantage point and luring him up top helped. But was a real struggle, with lots of button mashing & swearing & perseverance.

But then I am not the best of players & I am sure others found him a breeze.

    Good luck!

The trick (I found) is to keep moving, keep at a distance and attack from range. Keep your own AoE going and get rid of the adds quickly. It is not an easy fight at first (although I'm sure others will disagree), but persevere!

I was surprised at its difficulty as well. My magplar healer died twice before she finally took him down. His red on the floor is huge and dangerous. I didn't stumble on a 'secret', simply got better at avoiding (most of) the red.

It also took me a few moments to realize that the king was worthless. I had hoped he would at least distract the guy some. So learning the size and potency of the red and that the king was no help allowed necessary adjustments.

Finally killed him and his icy archer friends... alas it took getting a friend to come help me, which then made him pretty easy. In a way this is one of my major gripes about the game, sublime to the ridiculous.
    Thanks guys for the suggestions.

range him from the landing, where the stairs are, near where you enter.

Always ranged: bows, staffs... It is a long fight, but YOU CAN! :)

This is one of those fights that I think really depends upon your build - I had to look up the name of the boss you posted because I didn't remember him at all, let alone for being difficult to kill, when I realised which one it was I vaguely recalled splatting him fairly quickly. It's just one of those things that some builds will have a better time with than others IMO.
