Disease, like Lycanthropy. Race isn't curable, Vampirism is.

Technically, with Lycanthropy and Vampirism, the disease is only a vector for the curse to take hold. Not that this really matters much. In both cases though, yeah, your character has a race to start with, and could then also become afflicted with Vampirism or Lycanthropy.

Yah, but technicalities aside, one cannot be 'cured' of being Nord...or Bosmer...or Argonian ;)

    Oh there's a cure...

They're just people afflicted with a disease (that happens to curse them with immortality and damn their soul to coldharbour).

In morrowind you could be turned by different clans that gave you different powers when you were reborn. As well there are multiple types of vampirism in the tes universe. I would find it fair to say there are different races of vampires.

I hear you guys, it just seems like such a culturally unique and powerful, idiosyncratic disease that comparing it to rockjoint or getting bit by a skeever diminishes the intense culture, self-view of superiority, means of reproduction (biting, no vampire is born that way obvs), and goals to fit into society (steal aur'i-el's bow and blot out the sun so that it is always night lol. Extreme, but still an effort to have their culture integrated into the land.)

I'll just say that vampirism is a disease, but vampire lord bloodlines are a race.

    We cool with that

Nope. Sorry OP but even the lore in game states that Vampirism is a curse and diesease with different strands that is afflicted upon you by other vampires or by Molag Bal himself.

But even a burnt to death Argonian, is still an Argonian =) Killing with fire doesn't cure a thing (you need to use smoke to cure them, like a ham)

No, vampirism is a curse from a Daedric Prince, it's not a race.

Well, so is being a Dunmer or an Orc, frankly.

Following that... All the other "races" are likely magically defined as well. After all, going by lore when they breed with each other the child is normally the race of the mother, with maybe a trait or two from the father's race.

Which or course goes to explain why at least half the people on Tamriel aren't multiracial, for all of such couples being fairly common and Tamriel not being all that big... Bit weird, but one of those lore details that the IU book writer(and publisher) would of kind of have to be completely insane to of gotten wrong.
