Necrotic Orb - new functionality clearance

Hello guys,

I am a bit confused about this change:

"Necrotic Orb: The synergy from this ability and its morphs now restore Stamina or Magicka to the synergy-user, whichever percentage is lower. The amount restored is now based on your character level instead of your Max Resource. The synergy also has a shared cooldown with the Spear Shards synergy."

This patch note is really unclear to me.

Necrotic orb was giving a magicka regaining buff which strength was based on number of enemies hit by the orb explosion. The buff was applied to any ally standing in the explosion. Hitting a pack of mobs with the explosion meant infinite magicka for some time to anyone who was nearby explosion.

Does the change mean that the buff will be regaining stamina or magicka, whichever percentage is lower?
Or was the buff removed completely and it now restores certain amount once at the time of popping the synergy?

And does it still benefit any ally hit by the explosion or only the synergy user is affected?

Let me answer with your own words:

    Yes. :D

A possible downside - Magplar healers spamming Power of the Light for the debuff in Trials might run into a trap of having Stamina restored instead of Magicka when popping the other healer's Orb (because of small Stamina pool). Which sucks.

That's not what I was asking. The question is if the orb gives over-time buff like before or a certain amount once at the time of synergy use.

If the buff is kept, the functionality of orb is completely different than of spear.

Orb gives an over-time regaining buff to any ally hit by the synergy explosion.
Spear gives a certain amount once to the synergy user.

That's why I am asking all this.

    - Is the weather good today?
    - Sure, it is.
    - That's not what I was asking.

    :D

Anyway. Both the Shards and Orbs restore fixed amount of either Stamina or Magicka (whichever is lower) in one shot instantly. It's not restore over time effect neither it is %-based. Both Shards and Orbs now share the same 20 second (or 30 - I don't remember now) cooldown. I hope that helps.

So sum in sum, orb now does exactly the same like spears.

    Thanks for answers.

So they did remove the part where orbs restored extra resource over I think 10 seconds based on number of enemies hit? That hasn't been mentioned in Patch Notes I think and is quite a nerf.

Well, figures really that it's a nerf, saying as this patch is just one giant nerf.

It's there and yes, this is exactly how they both work at this moment on PTS. No restore-over-time anymore. No per-enemies/allies-hit.

Spears is still easily more accurate to throw out, or to the tank half way across the room. Where as orbs are slow AF and often miss out on the synergy. Thought that was worth noting.
