Why is it that all of the 5 original companions have not aged between the time of the Soul Burst and the time the game begins except for Varen? They all look unchanged in any way except for him. I know the Elder Scrolls can render the reader blind, but I don't recall anything saying they can age a person. I'm just curious and I've never found anything to explain it. Thanks!

    Two years have passed since the Soulburst, I think.
    Varen says that becoming a Moth Priest severely exhausted him. Maybe some beings are just too weak to become a priest, maybe he pushed the limits, maybe he was cursed. It's a special case for him.

    Varen read the elder scroll which left him blind and sapped a lot of his strength. Also he was in Coldharbour for a while, which is definitely​ not a nice place to be in and took it's toll..
    The Elder Scrolls can properly only be read by dedicated and knowledgeable moth priests who have spent all their life studying and preparing for that one moment as it can outright kill or send people insane otherwise - Varen was a moth priest for only a short while, on a whim for his own gain with barely any knowledge or humility for what he was about to do - which he regrets and keeps reminding you throughout the main storyline.

    Thank you both for taking the time to answer. I recall Varen talking about being foolish old man, but I mostly thought he felt that way for believing that toad Mannimarco about becoming Dragonborn. :)

    Varen might easy be old before this, even if has not been emperor for long.
    Grinding just make you go in circles.
    Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

    No, he specifically says that he was prematurely aged by the scrolls at one point.

    I must have missed that somewhere. I'll have to listen more carefully next time around. It's really cool that you all just know this stuff.
